Abstract

Nata is a functional food that has a healthy effect when consumed because it contains vitamin C which is beneficial to the body. Nata derived from soursop fruit, we know as nata de anonna, which is produced from the bacterial activity of Acetobacter xylinum. This study aims to determine the potential of soursop fruit skin as a substrate for making nata de anonna. Research shows that the yield nata produced from soursop fruit and soursop skin and soursop meat are (1.5 cm, 1 cm and 0.8 cm). This research can be concluded that the hump and soursop skin which become waste are part of the soursop fruit can be used as the substrate of nata de anonna.

Abstract

Lichen is a symbiotic organism, made up of two or more different organisms living together. Lichen biodiversity may provide an excellent system in bio-monitoring of the ecosystem health of nature reserve areas such as Rawa Danau in Banten Province, Indonesia. The study on lichen diversity was conducted on Rawa Danau based on altitude using transect based plot in three main habitats based on altitude e.g. 90 mbsl, 100-130 mbsl, 130-160 mbsl, 160-187 mbsl. A total 63 specimens were collected from these four areas which resulted in the occurrence of 19 species of lichens belonging to 17 genera and 13 families. Shannon–Winner’s diversity index from 1.494 to 2.6678. The variation in species composition was related to the environmental habitat variables and lichens demonstrated a condition of environmental alteration.

Abstract

The cell wall component of root endophytic fungi is a main source of chitosan synthesis. This research aimed to optimize chitosan synthesis from three different isolated species of root endophytic fungi in Pulau Dua Nature Reserve, Banten Indonesia. Three species of root endophytic fungi, namely, Aspergillus niger, Aureobasidium sp., Basipetospora sp., were cultured to produce chitosan. To optimize the production of fungal chitosan, cultures were treated with different conditions such as growth medium (Oat Meal broth, Potato Dextrose Broth, CMMY Broth), pH value (4, 5, 6, 7), and temperature (25, 30, 35, 40°C). Chitosan was extracted from dried mycelium after treated on NaOH 10% at 121°C for 2 min. The degree of deacetylation (DD) of chitosan was then examined and compared with the control (shrimp chitosan). The optimum fungal chitosan condition was higher in CMMY medium, pH 5, and 30°C. The DD value of three root endophytic fungi species, Aspergillus niger, Aureobasidium sp., Basipetospora sp. were 88.5, 83.3, 80.8, respectively, which was lower than DD value resulted from control. This study indicates that Aspergillus niger was a potential endophytic fungi for chitosan synthesis.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of scientific argumentation strategy towards various learning outcomes and educational levels five over the years in science education. This study was used systematic review and meta-analysis using R application. Selected ten articles from the Web of Science database during 2016-2020 were used in this study. The results showed that scientific reasoning is more effective for improving through scientific argumentation in the higher education level than other learning outcomes and other educational levels with an effect size 1.39 and standard error 0.2478.  So, we can conclude that there is evidence to suggest using a scientific argumentation strategy in improving scientific reasoning in higher education levels both in the teaching process and the research.

Abstract

Banana is the most favorite fruits in the world. Indonesia is in the center of origin and diversity of banana in Southeast Asia. Banten is one of the most banana producer in Indonesia. However, no information on banana diversity and its associated disease available from this province. In this paper, we explored Kabupaten Pandeglang in its diversity of banana and its associated disease. Eleven local banana germplasm were identified with their associated disease. Fusarium wilt, Sigatoka, and Blood disease are the most common diseases found on those varieties. Seven local banana germplasm are described in this paper. These information are very important to preserved biodiversity of Indonesia and will be useful for future food security and sustainability.
