Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the trend of interactive e-module usage in Ecology learning and identify the gap between students' needs and experiences of using them. The research method used a mixed-method research design by combining Systematic Review and quantitative descriptive method, reinforced by student needs questionnaire data. The results of the study indicate that students' needs and interests in interactive e-modules are in the high category, especially for visual and interactive learning media. However, the experience of using interactive e-modules is still relatively low. This finding indicates a gap between students' needs and the implementation of e-modules in Ecology learning. Therefore, the development and implementation of interactive e-modules that are appropriate to students' needs need to be optimized to support more effective Ecology learning.

Abstract

For kindergarten and elementary school teachers to be ready to face the challenges of the 21st century, they must have STEM literacy. This study describes the definition of STEM literacy for kindergarten and elementary school teachers. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. By using a random sampling technique, the subjects of this research were kindergarten and elementary school teachers in Serang City, Banten, Indonesia. In this research, a STEM literacy questionnaire was employed, which consisted of three aspects: knowledge, attitudes, and skills. To gather data, a Google Form was distributed to kindergarten and elementary school teachers in Serang City. Then, the data was gathered and analyzed. The results indicate that most teachers have a good conceptual understanding of STEM as an integrative approach, but this understanding remains at a descriptive level and has not been fully implemented in learning practices. Systematic training is needed to strengthen the pedagogical implementation of STEM in a contextual and developmentally appropriate manner.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) on students' learning independence and conceptual understanding of evolution at the senior high school level. The research uses a quantitative approach with a weak experimental, one-group pretest-posttest design. The study population consists of Grade XII Science students at a public senior high school in Tangerang, Indonesia. A random sample of 70 students formed the experimental group. Data collection used non-test methods, such as questionnaires for learning autonomy and essay tests for conceptual understanding. The average learning independence score was 79.1, indicating high independence. The average concept understanding score was 57.9, categorized as sufficient. Data analysis for learning independence used the Paired-Samples Test, while concept understanding was analyzed with the nonparametric Wilcoxon test. Results showed the use of BLAST had a significant effect on improving students' learning independence and conceptual understanding, with a p-value of 0.001 0.05.

Abstract

The rapid growth of bioinformatics has significantly influenced both the biological sciences and education, underscoring the importance of equipping future biology educators with relevant analytical and computational skills. This study aimed to compare the bioinformatics skills and biological knowledge of biology education students with and without experience in bioinformatics courses. A comparative descriptive design was employed, involving 49 students: 26 with no prior experience in bioinformatics and 23 with experience in bioinformatics. Data were collected using an instrument consisting of three opinion-based items and three cognitive test items. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically and visualized through diagrams, while cognitive performance was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The outcomes show that students who took the bioinformatics course demonstrated a broader use of tools, more reflective thinking about their own learning, and encountered more difficult problems, along with greater gain in scores on biology knowledge (70.29%) compared to students who did not take the course (63.63%). These findings support the need to include bioinformatics in the biology education program to better prepare pre-service biology teachers with the science and technology advancements in the future

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the priority of waste management problems in the campus environment based on the perceptions of Biology Education students using the Urgency, Seriousness, Growth (USG) method. A quantitative descriptive survey method was employed with a USG questionnaire instrument assessed through a four-level scale. The results showed that the highest priority problem was the lack of student awareness to bring their own drinking/eating containers (score 320), followed by littering behavior (score 319) and waste accumulation in strategic areas (score 314). The interpretation of the results indicated that student behavior aspects were crucial factors in campus waste management. This research concluded and recommended the need for an integrated strategy consisting of continuous education, provision of supporting facilities, and adjustment of waste container capacity and emptying frequency.
