Abstract

Metacognitive skills are a person's ability to control their thinking when planning, monitoring, and evaluating their cognitive processes. Students' metacognitive skills that appear when completing minimum competency assessment questions tend to be incomplete. In this case, students need the right strategies to solve these questions. Each student has different thinking processes and problem-solving strategies. One possible cause of this is different levels of mathematical ability. This research is a qualitative research with tests and interview methods that aim to describe students' metacognitive skills in solving AKM problems based on their level of mathematics ability. The subjects of this study were students with high, medium, and low mathematical abilities. Based on the study's results, all indicators of metacognitive skills, ie, planning, monitoring, and evaluation, appeared in subjects with high mathematics ability at every stage of problem solving. Meanwhile, some indicators do not appear completely for students with medium and low mathematics abilities. At the stage of carrying out the plan, the evaluation component was the indicator of metacognitive skills that did not appear in low-ability students. Meanwhile, for students with low mathematics ability, the indicators that did not appear were planning and monitoring in the stages of devising a plan and carrying out the plan.

Abstract

Numeracy is the ability of students to identify information, use mathematical facts and procedures, and evaluate results or mathematical ideas represented in various forms to solve problems in everyday life. Meanwhile, the Adversity Quotient (AQ) refers to a person's ability to endure and persevere through various events that cause difficulties or challenges. The aim of this study is to describe the numeracy skills of senior high school students in solving AKM (Minimum Competency Assessment) questions on number content, viewed from the perspective of Adversity Quotient (AQ). The type of research used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of one representative student for each AQ category, selected purposively to allow an in-depth exploration of numeracy processes. The research instruments included the ARP (Adversity Profile Response) questionnaire, AKM Number Content Questions (SAKB) (which consist of three contexts scientific, socio-cultural, and personal), and an interview guide. The analysis was based on numeracy indicators that included: identifying information and assessing the problem mathematically, using mathematical facts and procedures, and interpreting and evaluating the results. In this study, the student in the climber AQ category was able to fulfill all numeracy indicators across all question contexts. Meanwhile, the camper category student was unable to identify information and assess the problem mathematically in the scientific context. The student in the quitter AQ category met all numeracy indicators only in the personal context. These findings suggest that understanding students’ numeracy skills by considering their Adversity Quotient can help teachers plan instructional strategies that meet students’ needs. In the future, mathematics education should focus not only on improving numeracy skills but also on fostering students’ persistence and resilience in problem-solving.

Abstract

Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Brunei Darussalam face limited access to continuing education, lack of entrepreneurial skills, and insufficient understanding of the integration between education, ecology, and business. To address this gap, the FMIPA team from Universitas Negeri Surabaya conducted an online EduEcopreneurship training in November 2025. The activity employed a participatory workshop approach and a pretest-posttest evaluation design. Results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ conceptual understanding, with average scores rising from 52.4 to 84.2 (a 31.8-point increase, or 60.7%). Moreover, 93.3% of participants successfully designed business ideas that integrated the three core pillars of EduEcopreneurship: Eco-Innovation, Eco-Opportunities, and Eco-Commitment. Participant feedback was rated “Good” (average 4.08 on a 5-point scale). These findings confirm that EduEcopreneurship serves as an effective dual empowerment model, combining non-formal education and sustainable economic development, for migrant workers.
