Abstract

This study examines how postcolonial social background comprising economic inequality, patriarchal norms, and colonial legacy influences the character development of Dewi Ayu and Johan in Eka Kurniawan’s novel Cantik Itu Luka. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative design with close reading of the 2018 Gramedia edition, twelve passages illustrating economic, patriarchal, and historical dimensions were selected as primary data. These excerpts underwent manual open coding and thematic interpretation of characters’ attitudes, actions, and identities. Results indicate that economic inequality prompts commodification of bodies and personal narratives; patriarchal norms provoke both symbolic and practical resistance through narrative techniques, silent defiance, and shifting notions of beauty; and colonial legacy informs Johan’s identity reconstruction via re-membering practices and linguistic decolonization. The interrelation of these dimensions reveals the complexity of oppressive social structures that simultaneously foster spaces for resistance, thereby contributing to postcolonial literary scholarship and gender discourse in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the strategies of Indonesian language teachers in implementing the Independent Curriculum at SMPN 1 Tompobulu, Bantaeng Regency. The purpose of the study is to describe the planning, implementation, and assessment strategies of Indonesian language teachers in implementing the Independent Curriculum at SMPN 1 Tompobulu, Bantaeng Regency. The type of research is qualitative with a descriptive qualitative approach design. Data collection techniques through interviews with two Indonesian language teachers, classroom observations, and document analysis. The data analysis technique in this study uses analysis according to Miles and Huberman, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the strategy of Indonesian language teachers in the planning stage has considered aspects of mature planning and student needs. At the implementation stage, teachers have used teaching tools by referring to teaching modules, and at the assessment stage using a comprehensive assessment of learning. This study concludes that the implementation of the Independent Curriculum has shown success in creating effective and meaningful learning for students.

Abstract

Language plays an important role as a fundamental communication system in social interaction and the formation of cultural identity. This study examines the impact of social media on the Indonesian language skills of the younger generation. The rapid emergence of social media, especially among teenagers, has significantly changed the use of Indonesian. Direct observation was conducted to analyze writings on social media and compare them with the Enhanced Spelling (EYD) guidelines. Findings from direct observation showed that younger people tend to use slang, foreign terms, and abbreviations that do not always follow standard Indonesian language rules. However, social media also has a positive impact by introducing language variations and promoting Indonesian culture on the global stage. Therefore, it is very important for the younger generation to use social media responsibly, so that they can remain productive and love Indonesian. In the digital context, social media has become a new space that influences the way the younger generation uses Indonesian. This study aims to examine how the use of Indonesian by the younger generation is influenced by social media, especially in terms of conformity with standard language rules. The method used is a qualitative analysis of 150 posts from social media users aged 15-24 years on the Instagram and Twitter platforms, collected during the period January-March 2024. The data was analyzed by comparing the linguistic elements in the posts with the Enhanced Spelling (EYD) guidelines. The results of the study showed that 78% of the posts contained elements of non-standard language, such as the use of abbreviations ("bgt", "gak"), slang ("lo", "gue"), and foreign terms ("update", "cringe"). However, creative practices were also found in the use of language that reflected group identity and the promotion of local culture. These results indicate that social media has an ambivalent role: on the one hand, it shifts standard language norms, but on the other hand, it opens up space for new linguistic dynamics and expressions. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen Indonesian language literacy that is adaptive to the development of digital media.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ability to write observation report texts using the show not tell technique of class X students of SMAN 1 Sampolawa, South Buton Regency. This study uses a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The population of this study, namely all class X students of SMAN 1 Sampolawa, South Buton Regency, totaling 87 students. Sampling used a simple random sampling technique with a sample size of 30 students. The data collection technique used an assignment technique, namely students were given the task of writing texts with an allocation of 80 minutes. The technique used in analyzing the data was descriptive statistics by calculating the average value. The results showed that the average value of the ability to write observation report texts using the show not tell technique was 74 in the capable category. This was evidenced by the value obtained, namely 21 students were included in the capable category with a value interval of 70-100 and 9 students were included in the incapable category with a value interval of ≤55-69. So, it can be concluded that class X students of SMAN 1 Sampolawa are able to write observation report texts by expressing ideas, explaining each part that forms the structure of the text based on the observation results.

Abstract

This study explores the influence of critical thinking skills and digital literacy on academic essay-writing skills among university students. Employing an associative quantitative approach, it examines the relationship between two independent variables—critical thinking skills and digital literacy—and the dependent variable, academic essay-writing ability. Data were collected through a cross-sectional survey of a sample of 150 students selected using simple random sampling and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS software. The findings reveal that critical thinking skills exert a significant and dominant influence on academic essay-writing ability, whereas digital literacy makes a smaller but still significant contribution. These results underscore the importance of integrating critical thinking skills and digital literacy into the educational curriculum as a strategy to enhance the quality of students’ academic writing. This research also offers recommendations for educators and policymakers to design more effective learning approaches that support the development of students’ 21st-century skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji keefektifan keterampilan menulis paragraf argumentasi berdasarkan metode NLP pada siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 11 Makassar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen.desain penelitian yang digunakan yaitu pretest-post test non-equivalent control group design. Peneltian ini dilaksanakan di SMA Negeri 11 Makassar. Yang menjadi populasi yaitu keseluruhan siswa kelas X yang berjumlah 352 siswa. pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Sampel yang terpilih yaitu kelas X-1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas X-2 sebagai kelas kontrol. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa tugas menulis paragraf argumentasi. Data yang terkumpul kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan stattistik inferensial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara pembelajaran menulis paragraf argumentasi berbasis NLP dengan pembelajaran keterampilan menulis paragraf argumentasi dengan menggunakan metode ceramah dan penugasan. Hal ini ditunjukkan pada hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan analisis inferensial jenis uji-t independen (independent sample test)  dan diperoleh nilai t-hitung = 4,263 dengan signifikansi atau p-value = 0,000. Karena nilai p-value = 0,000 < 0,05 maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara pembelajaran keterampilan menulis paragraf argumentasi berbasis NLP dengan pembelajaran menulis paragraf argumentasi menggunakan metode ceramah dan penugasan. Dengan demikian, pembelajaran berbasis NLP efektif digunakan dalam keterampilan menulis paragraf argumentasi pada siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 11 Makassar.  The effectiveness of neuro-linguistic programming on learning writing arguments Abstract: This study aims to examine the effectiveness of argumentation writing skills based on the NLP method at the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 11 Makassar. The collected data was then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. This was indicated in the results of hypothesis testing from the independent t-test (independent sample test) of inferential analysis where the value of t-count obtained was 4.263 and the significance or p-value was 0.000. Because the p-value was < 0.05, it can be concluded that there was a significant difference between the learning of writing argumentative paragraph based on the NLP method and the lecturing and assignment methods. Thus, NLP-based learning was effectively used in writing argumentation paragraph for the tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 11 Makassar.

Abstract

Poster Layanan Publik yang baik, jelas dan menarik tentu bermanfaat bagi warga masyarakat dalam memahami informasi/kebijakan2 yang disosialisasikan oleh pemerintah dalam hal ini kantor desa sebagai ujung tombak pelayanan publik harus mampu memfasilitasi keterbukaan informasi publik tersebut salah satunya dengan menyediakan tampilan poster layanan publik yang menarik dan jelas dibaca warga masyarakat. Khalayak sasaran kegiatan pengabdian ini pada khususnya adalah aparatur desa anjir serapat baru kecamatan kapuas timur kabupaten kapuas. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode ceramah, diskusi dan dokumentasi. Secara umum pelatihan ini dapat dikatakan berhasil karena para peserta pelatihan mengikuti dengan tekun dan tertib terhadap materi yang di sampaikan. Bahkan setelah dilakukan tanya jawab, para peserta menyatakan bahwa setelah mengikuti pelatihan pengetahuan dan pemahaman mereka bertambah.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the news writing skills of seventh grade students through Project Based Learning (PjBL) with Padlet media. PjBL focuses on student activities to produce real products, while Padlet supports collaboration, idea sharing, and feedback. This study found that the use of PjBL and Padlet effectively increased students' motivation, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration skills, and understanding of the structure and elements of news texts. This approach is an innovative alternative to develop writing skills and provide meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

Each culture teaches a different way of thinking and behaving and this becomes one of the determining factors for success in communication. These cultural differences can affect various aspects, including the way a person communicates. This research aims to examine how socio-cultural influences in speech learning. This research is a qualitative research that uses literature study research method. Data sources come from journal articles that are relevant to the research topic. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman data analysis technique. The results showed that culture plays a crucial role in shaping individual communication styles as well as in interpreting the messages conveyed. Each culture has unique communication norms that influence the structure, delivery and interpretation of speech. Understanding and appreciating cultural diversity in the communication process allows students to express their thoughts and feelings more intelligently and according to the situation at hand. Keywords: communication, socio-culture, speech Setiap budaya mengajarkan cara berpikir dan berperilaku yang berbeda dan hal ini menjadi salah satu faktor penentu keberhasilan dalam komunikasi. Perbedaan budaya ini dapat mempengaruhi berbagai aspek, termasuk cara seseorang berkomunikasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana pengaruh sosial budaya dalam pembelajaran berpidato. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang menggunakan metode penelitian studi literatur. Sumber data berasal dari artikel jurnal yang relavan dengan topik penelitian. Data dianalis dengan teknik analisis data Miles dan Huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa udaya memainkan peran krusial dalam membentuk gaya komunikasi individu serta dalam menafsirkan pesan yang disampaikan. Setiap budaya memiliki norma komunikasi yang unik yang memengaruhi struktur, penyampaian, dan interpretasi pidato. Memahami dan menghargai keanekaragaman budaya dalam proses komunikasi memungkinkan siswa untuk mengekspresikan pikiran dan perasaan mereka dengan lebih cerdas dan sesuai dengan situasi yang ada. Abstract

Pemanfaatan teknologi dalam pembelajaran bahasa telah menjadi sebuah inovasi yang menawarkan berbagai keuntungan bagi siswa dan guru. Beragam alat dan platform teknologi, seperti e-learning, aplikasi pembelajaran bahasa, dan media sosial, mampu meningkatkan proses belajar mengajar. Implementasi teknologi ini tidak hanya memudahkan akses terhadap materi pembelajaran, tetapi juga memungkinkan metode pengajaran yang lebih interaktif dan menarik. Selain itu, teknologi menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang lebih fleksibel, memungkinkan siswa belajar kapan saja dan di mana saja. Penelitian ini mengkaji berbagai jenis teknologi yang digunakan dalam pembelajaran bahasa serta dampaknya terhadap efektivitas pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa integrasi teknologi dalam pembelajaran bahasa dapat meningkatkan motivasi, keterlibatan, dan kemandirian belajar siswa. Oleh karena itu, penerapan teknologi dalam pembelajaran bahasa merupakan langkah krusial untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan dan memenuhi kebutuhan belajar siswa di era digital saat ini.
