Abstract

This study aims is to improve: (1) student learning motivation; and (2) students' writing skills in writing exposition texts of class VIII on State of Junior High School 3 Surakarta through the application of the Problem Based Learning model. This type of research is Class Action Research (CAR). This research was conducted in three cycles. This research was conducted in State of Junior High School 3 Surakarta in the first semester of the 2018/2019 academic year. This research was conducted in five months, starting from July to November 2018. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII- 9 in the first semester of the 2018/2019 academic year with a total of 32 students. The method of data collection is done by using tests, observations, questionnaires and document techniques. Data analysis techniques are carried out using critical analysis. Based on the analysis, the study concluded that: (1) the application of the Problem Based Learning model was able to increase students' motivation in learning Indonesian. This is indicated by an increase in the average score of learning motivation and the number of students with a learning motivation score of classification A (Very Good) and B (Good) in each cycle performed; and (2) the application of the Problem Based Learning model is able to improve students' writing skills in writing exposition texts of class VIII SMP Negeri 3 Surakarta in the first semester of the academic year 2018/2019. This is indicated by an increase in the average student score and the level of student mastery throughout the cycle. The average score of students' writing skills in exposition text writing, increased from 63.09 in the initial conditions, increased to 73.00 at the end of the first cycle, increased to 76.78 at the end of the second cycle, and then increased to 80.22 at the end from Cycle III. The level of mastery of student learning increased from 12.50% in the initial conditions, increasing to 43.75% at the end of the first cycle, increasing to 68.75% at the end of the second cycle, then increasing to 100.00% at the end of cycle III.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and explain the implementation of Indonesian language and literature learning in SMP Negeri 2 Surakarta and SMP Negeri 4 Surakarta. The analysis of the learning implementation was emphasized on the analysis of learning media, learning materials, learning models and methods, and learning assessment for each school. This qualitative descriptive research method applied case study techniques. Sources of data were online learning events in both schools, teacher informants of both schools, and documents, while data collection techniques were learning observation, teacher informant interviews, and document analysis. Besides, the data validity technique was carried out by method triangulation and data source triangulation. The data were then analyzed by employing Miles and Hubermann’s flow analysis technique. The results revealed that the learning media utilized by the teachers varied, comprising WhatsApp groups, email, google classroom, google meet, zoom, YouTube, and radio. The learning materials used the Wahana Pengetahuan package book and junior high school distance Indonesian learning e-modules, PPT, teacher-made modules, etc. Both schools also used the problem-based learning model. In addition, the assessment encompassed attitude assessment, knowledge assessment, and skills assessment.

Abstract

Traditional theater has various functions in society, a part from being an entertainment also as an education media, an explication, communication, social integration, aesthetic expression, and artistic expression. Even in the early days of its appearrance, traditional theater mendu  performances were precisely as a religious facilities. Therefore, it can be said that traditional performances are able to become archives for storing the noble values of local wisdom. This research aims to describe the function of the traditional theater mendu of West Kalimantan especially as an educational medium for the supporting community. This function could be in the form of scenes or dialogs during the show, either to the form of advices, religion advices, or inserted in jokes played by Khadam (Adam) and Mak Miskin from the common people. For the people of West Kalimantan, especially Mempawah district which is undergoing transition to modern society, the function of the performing arts should  still be very dominant in influencing the community. Therefore, the traditional theater of mendu deserves to be maintained from the threat of extinction.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the application of the use of multisensory media in learning to write narratives based on balancing brain function. The research method used is descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Place of research in elementary schools in Ponorogo. Subjects in the study were teachers and elementary school students in grade IV. Data collection techniques are direct observation techniques, interview techniques, and tests. The instruments of data collection are observation guides, interview guides, and test questions. The data analysis technique uses mastery learning guidelines. The results showed that the use of multisensory media in the form of media images, concrete objects, and film media can be used to ignite emotions as a basis for the initial search and development of ideas. The use of picture media can produce students categorically mastery as many as 30 students, the use of concrete media objects 59 students, and the use of film media as many as 63 of the 72 students studied. The use of multisensory media is very important in implementing learning based on balancing brain function.

Abstract

In teaching Indonesian language, the unification between language and culture is a really interesting source of study. The objectives of this study is to explore the identity of Gatotkaca character values of local wisdom found in the elementary school students’ reading book in several elementary schools in Sukoharjo Regency. This study was designed with a qualitative descriptive research model with content analysis technique. The data and data sources were taken from an elementary school student's reading book Gatotkaca Satria from Pringgodani. The results revealed that the local wisdom indicators primarily found in the reading book of Gatotkaca Satria Pringgodani including values of patriotism and other values such as discipline, hard work, creativity, sovereignty, democracy, respect for achievement, companionship, peace-loving, love of reading, and care to environment, social security, and responsibility. Gatotkaca principally showed the attitudes that can motivate students to develop patriotic sense.

Abstract

Character education is the focus of Indonesian education nowadays as people in Indonesia is experiencing a negative character shifting. In order to change negative character, character education should be taught to the young generation through the integration of the character education at school. This study aims to determine the ways of integrating the value of character education in the lesson plan and the process of Indonesian language learning in the high school. This study employed a case study method by implementing a qualitative approach. This research was carried out in State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Surakarta, Indonesia. The technique of data collection comprised of observation, interviews, and documentation. The result of this study shows that SMAN 1 Surakarta infuses character education in Indonesian language learning. The character values, which are integrated to the lesson plan, are respect, discipline, care, courage, responsibility, justice, honesty, helping each other, and cooperation. In the learning process, the character values that are infused to the lesson plan had been successfully integrated except for three values, namely justice, helping each other, and cooperation. Those three values should be integrated during group discussion activities, unfortunately, group discussion activities were not carried out.

Abstract

The tale of Hang Tuah is one type of old literature. This folklore tells the story of the main character named Hang Tuah who became the commander of a kingdom in a Malay land called the kingdom of Malacca. The purpose of this study is to analyze the psychology of the main character of the tale of Hang Tuah based on Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. This study uses descriptive qualitative study by analyzing the contents contained in the tale of Hang Tuah by Bot GenootSchap. The data in this study are in the form of behavior carried out by the main character, and the psychology of the main character based on the actions taken. Data sources in this study are in the form of a book entitled the tale of Hang Tuah, supporting primary books, and relevant journals and research as well. The data analysis technique used in this study is content analysis. The results of this study can be concluded that Based on the analysis carried out on the tale of Hang Tuah story script, it can be concluded that the character, Hang Tuah, has a personality that is consistent with what is conveyed in Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, especially in the ego aspect.

Abstract

Politeness are two important things that cannot be separated in learning activities. The purpose of this research is to explain the adherence to the principles of politeness in learning Indonesian dan the scale of politeness used in Indonesian language learning. The subject of this research is the students of grade 2 Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding Senior High School, Surakarta. Research methodology is descriptive qualitative which aims to generate data based on existing phenomenon empirically and the result is what it is. Research data is speech in learning Indonesian at Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding Senior High School Surakarta. Data collection methods that used in this research were uninvolved conversation observation, note taking, and recording technique. Validity of data in this research used triangulation technique of data source and triangulation method. The results of this research indicate that the dominant principle of politeness in Indonesian language learning in SMA Al Abidin Bilingual Boarding School Surakarta is (1) maxim of wisdom, (2) social distance scale used by students with other students, (3) social status scale used by students with teacher, (4) relative position scale of speech in learning occurs in official situations using Indonesian when interact between students and teachers.

Abstract

This study aims at describing the character education values embodied in the novel Mata dan Manusia Laut by Okky Madasari. The novel is chosen due to the character values that can be a reflection of students to apply in daily life. As the object of the study is the stories of this novel which contains the character education values. This study is a descriptive qualitative research in which the data in this study are in the form of words. The data used in the form of a narrative dialogue between characters in the novel. The technique used is the content analysis method. For the data validity of this research uses theory triangulation, method triangulation, and data triangulation. The data analysis technique used is the analysis of the Flow model by Miles and Huberman (2012) through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, as well as withdrawal conclusions. The theory of character education values refers to the Thomas Lickona theory which consists of ten character education values. However, this study is more focused on the value of hard work. The results of this study show that regarding the character education values, novel Mata dan Manusia Laut by Okky Madasari gives examples as well as description especially for the value of hard work which contains eleven values quoted from the novel. Also, the novel Mata dan Manusia Laut by Okky Madasari is representative enough as literacy learning, especially for a novel containing character education.

Abstract

The student’s language competence is a supporting factor that can be used to facilitate communication activities at school or in the community. One of the activities is negotiation. Negotiation needs a language competency for producing negotiating texts, (1) language knowledge including grammer and lexical, (2) strategics competence for finding accurate information on the topic to obtain facts, dare to ask for more than expected, and students must be able to show a firm attitude, and (3) communicative competence including confidence, contextual and effective. Based on these results, the purpose research for describing a Indonesian language competence by students in producing negotiating texts. The research method used is literature study to collect reference data that are relevant to topics from various sources of books, literature and other research results.
