Abstract

Abstract In the era of globalization, strengthening character based on local wisdom and universal values becomes crucial. The Punakawan figures in Javanese wayang (shadow puppetry) hold profound philosophies that have the potential to be integrated with Islamic principles in developing character education. This study aims to explore and synthesize the philosophical values of Punakawan figures in Javanese culture with Islamic principles, and to formulate an integrative and contextual model of character education development. This research employs a qualitative approach with library research method. Data was collected through a comprehensive literature study, including ancient Javanese manuscripts, Islamic texts, history books, scientific journals, and other credible sources relevant to the research topic. The main findings of this study indicate a harmony between Punakawan philosophy and Islamic values, particularly in aspects of wisdom, simplicity, and service. The analysis reveals that the character of Semar represents wisdom and monotheism, Gareng symbolizes caution and repentance, Petruk reflects honesty and trustworthiness, while Bagong represents social criticism and the principle of enjoining good and forbidding wrong. This synthesis results in a holistic model of character education, combining Javanese local wisdom with Islamic universality, which can be implemented in both formal and informal educational curricula

Abstract

The Pandawa Lima, as an integral part of Javanese wayang (shadow puppetry), has undergone significant acculturation with the advent of Islamic influence in Java. This phenomenon reflects complex cultural dynamics worthy of deeper study. This research aims to analyze the philosophical meaning of the Pandawa Lima in the context of Javanese-Islamic cultural acculturation and examine its relevance in contemporary society. This study employs a qualitative approach with cultural hermeneutics analysis, supported by John W. Berry's acculturation theory, Clifford Geertz's hermeneutics, Yuri Lotman's cultural semiotics, and Homi Bhabha's concept of hybridity. The analysis shows that the Pandawa Lima serves as a dynamic sign system in Javanese-Islamic culture, creating a unique third space where Javanese and Islamic values are harmoniously integrated. The Pandawa Lima characters represent a synthesis of values relevant to contemporary issues such as ethical leadership, conflict resolution, and social harmony. This acculturation process also offers a model for broader intercultural dialogue, demonstrating how different traditions can synergize without losing their essence.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of teacher leadership on the learning achievement of eighth-grade students in the Fiqh subject at the Tahfidzul Qur’an Abi-Ummi Islamic Boarding School, Boyolali, during the 2024/2025 academic year. The research is grounded on the importance of teachers as learning leaders who not only transfer knowledge but also shape students’ character and learning motivation within an Islamic education framework. The study employs a quantitative approach with an associative design. The population consists of 169 students, and a sample of 42 respondents was selected through random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and documentation, then analyzed using validity, reliability, normality, linearity, and Pearson Product Moment correlation tests. The findings show that teacher leadership implementation is at a fairly good level with an average score of 70, while students’ Fiqh achievement is at a moderate level with an average score of 92. The hypothesis test yields a correlation coefficient of 0.990, indicating a strong and significant positive relationship between teacher leadership and students’ Fiqh achievement. The implication of this study suggests that improving teacher leadership through professional development and pedagogical competence enhancement can significantly foster better learning outcomes and character building among students in tahfidz-based Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the role of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in shaping students’ Islamic worldview in the digital disruption era, despite its significant impact on Islamic education and the moral formation of Muslim youth. The rapid advancement of technology has transformed students’ ways of thinking and behaving, requiring pesantren to adapt without losing their Islamic values. This research aims to analyze how Ma’had Tahfizhul Qur’an Baitul Hikmah Sukoharjo develops an Islamic worldview among students through curriculum design, learning methods, and the role of teachers (ustadz) amid digital challenges. This study employed a qualitative approach using a case study design, involving three main informant groups—leaders, teachers, and students—selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s thematic analysis model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that education at Ma’had Tahfizhul Qur’an Baitul Hikmah plays a crucial role in constructing students’ Islamic worldview through an integrative curriculum that combines Qur’an memorization, Islamic studies, general knowledge, and character formation (adab). The ustadz serve as murabbi and muaddib, ensuring value transmission both in class and daily life.

Abstract

This study examines the hadith on honey as medicine through the perspective of Hadith Studies (Ilmu Hadis), focusing on takhrīj, chain (sanad) analysis, and textual (matan) criticism. Although the hadith on honey is frequently discussed in the context of prophetic medicine, its analysis from a strict hadith methodological framework remains limited. This research aims to assess the authenticity of the hadith, analyze the narrators’ network, and explore its relevance within contemporary hadith discourse. Employing qualitative library research, primary data were obtained from canonical hadith collections, particularly Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, while secondary data were drawn from works of jarḥ wa ta‘dīl, hadith commentaries, and recent academic journals. The findings reveal that the hadith is classified as ṣaḥīḥ li dhātih, with a continuous chain and reliable transmitters. The matn analysis confirms its coherence with Qur’anic principles and rational considerations. This study emphasizes the importance of grounding thematic hadith studies in rigorous hadith methodology.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of mentoring in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning for eighth-grade students at SMPIT Mutiara Insan Sukoharjo in the 2025/2026 academic year. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research informants consisted of Islamic Religious Education teachers, mentors, homeroom teachers, and eighth-grade students participating in mentoring activities. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while triangulation techniques were used to ensure data validity. The results showed that the mentoring program was implemented through small groups (halaqah) consisting of opening activities, material delivery, interactive discussions, and evaluation of students’ worship practices. The mentoring program had a positive impact on students’ understanding of Islamic Religious Education materials and the development of religious character. The obstacles encountered included limited time, differences in students’ characteristics and abilities, and uneven mentor competence. Efforts to overcome these obstacles were carried out through mentor training, the use of varied learning methods, and strengthening motivation and school support. Therefore, mentoring can be considered an effective strategy for improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of sustainable environmental management in education from an Islamic perspective through the interpretation of Qur’anic verses on khalifah (human stewardship) and Hadiths on environmental preservation. This research employs a qualitative approach with a library research design, utilizing primary sources such as the Qur’an and Hadith, as well as classical and contemporary tafsir and recent scholarly literature. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed using thematic interpretation (maudhu‘i) and qualitative thematic analysis. The findings reveal that the concept of khalifah in the Qur’an emphasizes human responsibility as stewards of the earth, grounded in justice and sustainability. The Hadiths provide practical guidelines for environmental care, including tree planting, maintaining cleanliness, and avoiding environmental damage. The integration of these values results in a value-based model of environmental management in education, encompassing principles such as trust (amanah), justice (‘adl), moderation (wasatiyyah), and benevolence (ihsan). Furthermore, the study finds that this model aligns with the framework of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), while offering an additional theological dimension that strengthens intrinsic and spiritual motivation for environmental responsibility. This study contributes to the development of an Islamic-based sustainable education management model that is both conceptually robust and relevant to contemporary environmental challenges.

Abstract

The growing use of artificial intelligence in higher education has created new opportunities for transforming learning processes; however, research on AI-based learning in Islamic Civilization History and its relationship with student adab in Islamic higher education remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the use of artificial intelligence in Islamic Civilization History learning, identify its role in transforming students’ learning processes, and examine its relationship with student adab. The study employed a quantitative design involving 47 respondents selected through purposive sampling, consisting of male and female students in Islamic higher education who had experience in learning Islamic Civilization History and using AI for academic purposes. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed via Google Forms and analyzed using descriptive statistics based on the distribution of responses. The findings show that students generally perceived AI positively in the learning of Islamic Civilization History. AI was found to support comprehension of course material, facilitate access to information on Islamic historical figures and events, accelerate summarization, and improve assignment effectiveness. The results further indicate that most respondents perceived AI as changing the way they learn Islamic Civilization History. At the ethical level, the majority of students reported that they continued to uphold academic honesty when using AI, and most believed that AI could strengthen adab when used appropriately. The study concludes that AI can play a constructive role in Islamic Civilization History learning, provided that its use remains grounded in responsibility, verification, academic honesty, and respect for Islamic scholarly values. This study contributes to the emerging literature on AI in Islamic education and offers practical implications for lecturers and Islamic higher education institutions to integrate AI within a value-based pedagogical framework, while also highlighting directions for future research across broader institutional contexts and in relation to pesantren traditions, sanad, and at-turats.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited empirical research on the use of interactive video-based learning technology in Islamic Religious Education (IRE), despite its potential contribution to enhancing students’ learning motivation in the digital era. The study aims to analyze the effect of interactive video-based learning technology on students’ learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education. The research adopts a quantitative correlational design, involving 30 eleventh-grade students of SMA Al Islam 1 Surakarta selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using structured questionnaires measuring the utilization of interactive video-based learning technology and students’ learning motivation. Prior to data collection, the instruments were tested for validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics version 31. The findings reveal that both the utilization of interactive video-based learning technology and students’ learning motivation were categorized at a moderate level. Furthermore, the regression analysis indicates that interactive video-based learning technology has a positive and statistically significant effect on students’ learning motivation (p = 0.012 < 0.05), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.206, indicating that interactive video technology contributes 20.6% to the variance in learning motivation. These findings support the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning, which emphasizes the effectiveness of multimedia-based instruction in facilitating meaningful learning experiences. The study concludes that interactive video-based learning technology plays an important role in enhancing students’ learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education. The implications of this study include theoretical contributions to the literature on educational technology and Islamic education, as well as practical recommendations for teachers and schools to integrate interactive video learning into instructional practices. Additionally, future research is encouraged to investigate other factors influencing learning motivation and to involve larger and more diverse samples across educational settings
