Abstract

The car body repair process is integral to vehicle development and structural repair. The primary objective of this study is to enhance the quality of thin material welding utilized in automobile body repair. The impetus for this research stems from the necessity to improve the structural integrity and longevity of thin materials prone to deformation throughout the welding procedure while minimizing distortion. This study aims to identify optimal parameters for the tungsten inert gas welding (TIG welding) process on thin materials, particularly for automobile body rearrangement. The Taguchi method conducted the experimental analysis of variations in welding parameters, including electrode diameter, gas flow rate, and welding current. Adjusting TIG welding parameters to their optimal values significantly improves weld joint direct tensile load (DT-load) and overall structural quality, according to the findings of this study. ANOVA analysis and the S-N ratio indicate that gas flow rate and welding current are significant determinants of the quality of welded joints in thin materials. This research contributes to a better understanding of the optimal parameters for fusing thin materials, particularly in automobile body repair. The automotive industry can use these findings as a guide to enhance the quality and strength of welding processes, which are critical to the structural integrity of vehicles.

Abstract

A floor-cleaning robot requires a stable and consistent movement to ensure effective cleaning. This study implements a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) control system using Arduino Uno to regulate the DC motor’s speed and rotation. A well-tuned PID system ensures smooth and constant motion, optimizing the cleaning process. Without PID control, the robot’s movement can become inconsistent, reducing its cleaning efficiency. The research focuses on designing and implementing a PID system to achieve constant speed and rotation through programming. The selected PID parameters are Kp = 0.2, Ki = 50, and Kd = 0, effectively making it a Proportional-Integral (PI) controller. Experiments were conducted under two conditions: (1) unloaded motor testing—where the motor’s rotational stability was assessed without external load, and (2) loaded robot operation—where the robot was tested while cleaning a dirty floor. Results showed that the DC motor's unloaded speed was initially 5 RPM, stabilizing at 10.62 RPM. Under load, the robot's speed started at 0.2 RPM, peaked at 6.85 RPM, and maintained an average velocity of 4.85 cm/s. The robot demonstrated consistent motion in forward, left-turn, and right-turn maneuvers, achieving 13-degree rotations in 30 seconds. The robot was able to operate for 30 minutes, maintaining a stable speed between the 3rd and 22nd minute, before declining as battery power depleted. The findings confirm that the implementation of a PI controller effectively stabilizes motor rotation and enhances floor-cleaning efficiency. Additionally, this control method can be adapted to larger-scale robots and various DC/AC motor systems.

Abstract

The increasing number of motor vehicles has led to higher fuel consumption, especially among two-wheeled vehicles, contributing to elevated emissions of hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO). This study investigates the potential of lemongrass oil (LO) as natural additive to reduce exhaust emissions from RON 92 fuel. The LO was extracted via maceration and characterized by its physical properties, including density (0.893 g/mL), viscosity (5.30 mPa.s), and boiling point (222 °C), consistent with pure LO standards. The additive as then blended into RON 92 fuel in concentration of 10 mL, 15 mL, and 20 mL per 1000 mL of fuel to determine its optimal performance. Results showed that a 20 mL addition yielded the highest reduction in HC and CO emissions, respectively 49.76% and 46.24%. Furthermore, engine performance improved, with power increasing by 0.27 HP and torque by 0.21 Nm within an engine speed range of 5200-5700 rpm. These outcomes suggest that LO enhances combustion efficiency and reduces emissions. The findings highlight the potential of LO as an environmentally friendly fuel additive and supprt ongoing efforts to develop sustainable alternatives to conventional fossil fuels in Indonesia.

Abstract

Laser marking has become an industrial trend to label a product to avoid problems arising from errors in product placement, labels can also be other markers depending on needs, laser marking can provide good writing prints on steel sheets. However, problems arise due to poor parameter input errors resulting in marking reading results that cannot be read by the scanner machine, this study aims to provide an analysis of the influence of laser marking input variations that can provide good marking quality, to determine the quality of marking, researchers use a Logitech camera assisted by Open CV programming, to see the quality of laser marking results that can be read by the scanner. This research method begins with inputting 6 parameter variations including speed, laser power and laser frequency, then Open CV programming is carried out to obtain image reading quality with color and line recognition, the reading results will automatically display the error level of the study. The results of the study explain the first test with a high error rate due to low input variables so that the reading is not clear, while the error value is 104040 in color recognition and 69024 in lines that are read with a 100% end range. The lowest error value is in the second test with the highest input variable, namely 1309 in black and white color recognition and 1345 in lines with a range of 100%, therefore the sixth test can be read clearly and well.

Abstract

The relocation of Indonesia's capital city is anticipated to promote inclusive economic growth while embracing cultural diversity. However, this transition may affect ultraviolet (UV) radiation exposure patterns. The study investigated variations in UV exposure in the IKN region, focusing on urban development factors such as land use and population density that affect public health, sun protection, and skin cancer prevention. The research hypothesized that UV radiation is significantly correlated with these factors. UV Index data from 2010-2023, a hierarchical clustering method, identifies complex data patterns without determining the number of clusters. XGBoost, a machine learning model, was used for handling high-dimensional data and strong non-linear interactions, outperforming Random Forest in predicting Ultraviolet A variables. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed significant inter-group differences, which were validated by Tukey HSD post-hoc tests. Results showed that Cluster 4 was the region with the highest UV exposure. In contrast, Cluster 5 recorded the lowest, with exposure levels ranging from 6.61 to 15.82, a considerable difference of 9.21. The findings underscore the role of geographic and environmental factors in shaping UV exposure patterns, with implications for public health. Areas with high UV exposure face higher risks, including skin cancer and premature ageing. The predictive accuracy of the XGBoost model highlights its usefulness in addressing UV-related health risks. The study advocates for improved UV protection strategies and informed health policies to mitigate climate change impacts and promote sustainable urban development. The findings suggest that the development of data-driven early warning systems for UV radiation exposure could be implemented to improve public health policy and safety.
