Abstract

Indonesia is a country with ethnic, religious, racial, and cultural diversity that is a strength in national and state life. However, in recent years, the issue of intolerance has increased, marked by discrimination against minority groups, hate speech based on SARA, and the spread of hoaxes through social media. This phenomenon has the potential to threaten national unity if not addressed with an effective strategy. Therefore, this study aims to examine the role of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika as the main principle in dealing with intolerance in Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative approach with literature study and policy analysis methods. Data were collected from various academic sources, government policies, and media studies related to the issue of intolerance. The results of the study show that strengthening the value of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika can be a strategic solution in overcoming intolerance, especially through three main aspects, namely multicultural education, strict government regulations, and the role of the media in building a positive narrative about diversity. In addition, the role of civil society, religious figures, and educational institutions are also crucial factors in maintaining social harmony. This study offers novelty by integrating various approaches in strengthening Bhinneka Tunggal Ika as the main foundation in facing the challenges of intolerance. With synergy between the government, educational institutions, media, and society, the value of diversity can continue to be maintained to strengthen national unity. The results of this study are expected to be a reference for policy makers and academics in designing more effective strategies to create a harmonious and inclusive social life in Indonesia.

Abstract

The conflict between South and North Sudan is worsened by racial differences. It has also destroyed public infrastructure, including healthcare. The healthcare system's collapse puts the Sudanese population at serious risk now and in the future. The purpose of this study is to reveal the text analysis dimension, the discourse practice dimension, and the sociocultural dimension in Sudan's famine news. A qualitative method is used as the foundational approach, with a critical paradigm as the research perspective. The approach used is Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to uncover the relationships between language, power, and ideology in the discourse on the Sudan crisis. Data is collected from news articles discussing the Sudan crisis from multiple media, using manual recording tools and translation software to understand multilingual texts. The findings indicate that the choice of sentence structure reflects tense social relations within this conflict situation. The discourse created by the Sudanese government seeks to maintain legitimacy by diverting attention from internal issues like famine to external threats. Furthermore, the sociocultural dimension highlights the inability of international diplomacy to resolve the conflict, creating an impression of deadlock and underscoring the role of the international community in responding to Sudan's complex and historical crisis. Recommendations for future research include conducting field studies that involve perspectives from various groups and performing long-term analyses on the development of the Sudan crisis to understand the impact of government discourse within the context of dynamic socio-political change.

Abstract

This research investigates the determinant factors of public speaking anxiety among Indonesian university students through both pedagogical and socio-psychological lenses. Public speaking anxiety is a prevalent phenomenon in language acquisition, potentially affecting communicative competence and academic achievement, especially in the context of foreign language learning. This study explores the influence of academic motivation, intolerance of uncertainty, and the Big Five personality traits (openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, extraversion, and neuroticism) as potential mediators in shaping speaking anxiety among Indonesian Arabic students in Islamic higher education. The research was conducted among students enrolled in Arabic Language Education programs at several state Islamic religious higher education institutions (PTKIN) in Indonesia. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was used to analyze the data, collected via self-report questionnaires. The results show that academic motivation does not significantly influence openness, while intolerance of uncertainty does. Of the Big Five traits, only openness and extraversion significantly affect speaking anxiety. Academic motivation influences conscientiousness, but not extraversion, while intolerance of uncertainty affects extraversion, but not agreeableness. Openness and extraversion mediate the relationship between academic motivation and speaking anxiety.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of the Participatory Observation learning model and students' responses to the learning model used in PAI (Pendidikan Agama Islam/Islamic Education). It used qualitative and quantitative methods with a pre-test and post-test nonrandomized group pre-experiment design. The 125 participants who were taken from three public universities, were asked to fill out questionnaires and written interviews. The data were analysed using paired t-test and qualitative descriptive analysis. The results showed that first experiment got a t-score of 6,798 with a significance of 0,000; t-table score at 51 degrees of freedom and a significant degree of 0.05 in the form of 2.032. Second experiment obtained a t-score of 5.991 with a significance of 0.000; the t-table score at 54 degrees of freedom and 0.05 degrees of significance was 2.046. Third experiment achieved a t-score of 6.424 with a significance of 0.000; the t-table score at 20 degrees of freedom and 0.05 degrees of significance was 2.054. When compared, t-score> t-table or significance score <0.05, which means that the mean score between pre-test and post-test is significantly different. This means that the Participatory Observation learning model can improve students' religious and social character in learning PAI. This result is in line with the respondents' recognition that they have experienced changes in their character in a positive direction. Students stated that the Participatory Observation learning model was fun and very useful, so that it could be used in PAI learning to improve students' character.

Abstract

Personal financial literacy is a vital skill for university students, yet many struggle to track their daily expenses due to time constraints and low awareness. This study aims to design and develop a web-based Student Expense Tracking System using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to address this issue. The system allows users to automatically extract and record spending information from receipt images, reducing manual input and improving financial awareness. The development followed the Web Development Life Cycle (WDLC) using the Waterfall model, comprising planning, design, development, and testing phases. Visual Studio Code, Python 3, and Tesseract OCR were employed in system implementation. Wireframes and mockups guided the interface design, while backend development focused on data storage and OCR integration. Functionality testing showed a 100% pass rate across ten scenarios, validating the system's performance in image processing, budget management, and spending visualization. Usability testing using the Post-Study System Usability Questionnaire (PSSUQ) with 30 participants yielded a mean score of 4.45 out of 5, indicating a high level of user satisfaction. The system scored highest on ease of use (4.6), visual design (4.7), and recommendation likelihood (4.8), confirming its intuitive interface and appeal. Slightly lower scores in user confidence (4.1) and data organization (4.2) point to opportunities for interface refinement and improved user guidance. This research concludes that OCR can effectively support financial tracking for students. Future enhancements with NLP and machine learning are recommended to automate expense categorization and improve analytical capabilities.

Abstract

Among four skills in the Arabic learning, speaking skill is the most passive skill in Arabic learning, especially in Indonesia. The role of teacher and students is the main key in the success of Arabic learning especially in speaking skills. In this research, a phenomenological qualitative research method was used to find out the description and identification of Arabic learning strategies with a focus on freedom thinking and communication. The data of this study were obtained from literature-based descriptive analysis and student response in interviews. The student response data was obtained from distributing questionnaires related to FT-CODING learning strategies. The result showed that FT-CODING strategy is efficient in improving student’s speaking skills because it focuses on freedom thinking and communication with balanced roles between teachers and students. It was in line with the behavioral theory by John B. Watson that language learning is a form of stimulus and response. It was also supported by the semiotic theory by Ferdinand De Saussure that the meaning of language is obtained directly from signfier. Furthermore, this article was expected to examine quantitatively regarding the implementation of the FT-CODING strategy in a specific school level.
