Abstract

Aging is commonly perceived as a phase of decline characterized by physical deterioration and age-related stigma, which increases psychosocial vulnerability among older adults. This study aimed to explore the meaning of aging among older adults in Kampung Naga by examining the role of local wisdom in shaping physical, psychological, social, and spiritual well-being. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation involving four participants, including early elderly, late elderly, the oldest-old, and a cultural leader. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed four interconnected themes: physical–ecological harmony, emotional–spiritual harmony, social–communal harmony, and cultural harmony as the foundation of aging meaning. Older adults in Kampung Naga perceive aging as a natural, dignified, and meaningful life process characterized by acceptance, interconnectedness, and social respect. Cultural values such as hirup sauyunan, silih asih–silih asah–silih asuh, and narima strengthen psychological resilience and sustain social participation. Minimal ageism and strong communal support contribute to a positive aging experience. These findings highlight the significant role of local wisdom in fostering healthy and meaningful aging within Indigenous communities.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop a learning model based on local wisdom to enhance cultural literacy among elementary school students. This study employs a Research and Development (R&D) method, adapted from Borg & Gall into five stages, namely: (1) initial information gathering (literature review and field needs analysis); (2) planning (drafting the model); (3) initial product validation (expert validation); (4) preliminary testing (small group); and (5) field testing (large group). The research subjects consisted of 6 experts and practitioners for validation, 13 teachers, and fifth-grade students comprising 90 for the instrument trial and 125 students for the limited and broader tests to assess the effectiveness of the developed learning model. Data were collected through validation sheets, interview guidelines, and student assessment sheets. The model’s validity was analyzed qualitatively, while its effectiveness was analyzed quantitatively using a paired sample t-test and N-Gain. The results showed that the social studies learning model based on local wisdom, rooted in the maataa tradition, was deemed feasible for use, with an average validator score of 3,52, falling within the range of 3,2–4,0, categorized as highly feasible. The t-test result showed a significance value of 0.000, which is less than 0,05, indicating that the maataa tradition-based local wisdom model is effective in enhancing students’ cultural literacy skills. This is evidenced by a significant improvement in students’ cultural literacy, with an average pretest score of 73,44 rising to 94.5 in the posttest. The N-Gain calculation of 0,78 places this improvement in the "high" category, with learning effectiveness reaching 78%, meaning it is considered “effective.” In conclusion, the social studies learning model based on the maataa tradition of local wisdom is effective in improving students’ cultural literacy skills. This model provides a more contextual and meaningful learning experience while strengthening students’ connection to local cultural values.

Abstract

Much research has been done on guidance and counseling technology but only focuses on proving the effectiveness of technology applications in counseling. Unfortunately, research has yet to be found focusing on the proper framework for utilizing technology in guidance and counseling. This paper aims to formulate a framework for using technology in counseling services. A systematic literature review analyzes and combines information from various sources to obtain a comprehensive concept. Reference search results from 2011-2022 using published or perish (PoP) identified 69 references that met the literature criteria. The results of the study show that the use of technology in counseling must be oriented towards improving service quality by paying attention to the aspects: 1) Cultural and communication processes that will occur through technological devices, 2) Provisions and procedures for using technology-based services are to be agreed upon, 3) Readiness of technical knowledge from counselors as a service manager, 4) User experience in the technology application used.
