Abstract

The continuous shifts in Indonesia’s educational curriculum have raised significant concerns about the effectiveness of English language teaching at the elementary school (ES) level, particularly in rural areas. While the Merdeka Curriculum (MC) emphasizes early language acquisition, its implementation faces challenges due to gaps in teacher preparedness, limited resources, and disparities between urban and rural schools. This study explores English teachers’ perceptions of the MC and the challenges they encounter in its implementation in rural elementary schools. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis from eight English teachers in five ES in Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data analysis involved data condensation, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that while teachers recognize the potential of the MC, their understanding remains superficial, primarily acknowledging it as a new policy. The challenges identified include a lack of professional development opportunities, inadequate resources, and insufficient facilities, hindering the curriculum’s effective application. Teachers often rely on internet-based resources that are not tailored to local contexts and struggle with the student-centered, differentiated learning approach promoted by the curriculum. The study suggests that successful implementation of the MC requires support at both the central and local levels, including teacher training, infrastructure improvements, and appropriate resources. Further research should explore strategies to enhance teacher competencies and address infrastructural barriers, ensuring the full potential of the MC in rural education settings.

Abstract

Organic coffee robusta is a leading commodity produced by farmers because it has a significant enough demand. Organic coffee robusta is sold as green beans or processed coffee roasted and ready to brew. Supply chain management is essential considering that agricultural commodities have perishable, seasonal, wide variety, and bulky limitations, thereby increasing the risk of supply chain activities. Complexity in the supply chain creates various risks that must be minimized and mitigated. This study aims to analyze the supply chain risk of organic robusta coffee and determine the risk mitigation strategy of the organic robusta coffee supply chain with a fuzzy approach. Identification and mitigation of upstream to downstream risks are needed to achieve the objectives of the organic coffee supply chain in Pasrujambe District, Lumajang Regency. Supply chain risk identification is carried out using the Fuzzy Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FFMEA) method and determining risk mitigation strategies using the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) method. Both methods use expert respondents consisting of 3 farmers, 3 large collectors, and 3 experts in roastery. The results of the identification of the highest supply chain risk at the farmer level are the risk of non-uniform coffee fruit size (5.74), at the large collector level is price fluctuation (4.79), and at the roastery, the level the failure to regulate roasting temperature and time with an fuzzy risk priority number (FRPN) value of 5,26. Therefore, to minimize and mitigate these priority risks at the farmer level, increasing knowledge about organic coffee cultivation is necessary. At the large collector level, it is necessary to build institutional internalization stability, and at the roastery level, to improve the quality of the roastmaster.

Abstract

A performance evaluation system for the coffee supply chain is essential to ensure the sustainability of the coffee industry in the Malang Raya region. This study aimed to design a performance measurement system focusing on the social dimension of the coffee supply chain in Malang Raya, to assess the performance score of each indicator and provide improvement recommendations. The performance evaluation applies the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model, with weighting of performance indicators using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and normalization of values using the Snorm De Boer method. The Traffic Light System (TLS) is employed to identify priority indicators for improvement. Results from the SCOR-based assessment indicate that Karangploso farmers scored 61.03 (Average), Dampit farmers 70.01 (Good), and Wonosantri farmers 78.32 (Good). The performance score for the roastery was 67.66 (Average), while the coffee industry scored 79.53 (Good). Based on the TLS approach, improvement recommendations for farmers, roasteries, and the coffee industry include enhancing workforce training and skill development, increasing local labor absorption, developing policies to fulfill social standards, expanding strategic partnerships, and promoting the sustainability of the coffee industry through a holistic, multi-stakeholder approach.

Abstract

Purpose: Although residential and waste sector greenhouse gases from urban areas pose urgent challenges for medium-sized cities in developing countries, the latest mitigation studies tend to concentrate on metropolitan areas and sectors. Design/Methodology/Approach: This paper presents a new comparative Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) framework in which cross-sectoral residential and waste strategies come together on the basis of a multistakeholder decision-making model for medium-sized cities in developing countries. Utilizing Mojokerto City, Indonesia as a case study, five criteria emission reduction effectiveness, implementation cost, ease of implementation, public acceptance, and policy support were evaluated for seven mitigation options. We chose 10 purposively selected experts from academics, practitioners, policymakers, non-governmental organizations, and community groups to provide sources of data. Findings: The results show the separation of organic and inorganic waste, as well as processing organic waste, are the most important strategies due to their prominent mitigation effect, behavioral feasibility, and social acceptability. Technological-based and compliance-oriented initiatives ranked among the moderate to lower-ranking measures, as institutional and practical constraints dictate. Originality/Value/Novelty: This study is novel in its interdependency on comparative weighting among multistakeholder analyses which identifies trade-offs, preference divergences, and consensus patterns between actor groups, contributing to an adaptive and replicable priority-setting model for medium-sized cities aiming for inclusive, context-sensitive low-carbon transitions.
