Abstract

Deforestation in Indonesia poses a significant threat to the social and economic lives of forest adjacent communities. Despite the enactment of Law No. 18 of 2013 on the Prevention and Eradication of Forest Destruction, which includes provisions for legal protection of local communities, forest destruction rates remain high. This research aims to examine the form of legal protection for these communities, identify the challenges in implementing this protection, and propose strategies to enhance legal safeguards. The study adopts a normative-empirical legal approach, integrating statutory, conceptual, and sociological perspectives. Data was gathered through literature reviews and interviews with law enforcement officers, forestry officials, and local communities in Desa Nunuk, Kecamatan Maja, Kabupaten Majalengka. Findings reveal that, while legal protection exists, challenges such as limited resources, weak coordination, low legal awareness, and economic pressures hinder effective implementation. The study concludes that improving legal protection requires capacity building, legal education, better coordination, and sustainable livelihood alternatives for communities.

Abstract

The concept of resolving criminal cases through alternative methods has existed since the Dutch colonial era, as seen in Article 82 of the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP), which allowed charges to be dismissed if the offender paid a voluntary fine (afkoop). Over time, practices like diversion for children and seponering by the Attorney General in the public interest evolved, indicating early forms of restorative justice within the Indonesian legal system. This article explores the application, principles, and integration of restorative justice in criminal procedure law. It suggests that restorative justice is especially effective for minor offenses or cases with limited financial impact, emphasizing healing, voluntary participation, and social responsibility. For restorative justice to thrive, the legal system must shift from punishment to recovery, making it crucial for the development of a more humane and socially just criminal justice system.

Abstract

Growing environmental concerns have prompted companies, including those in the packaged tea industry, to adopt green strategies. However, the extent to which these strategies actually influence consumer perceptions and purchasing decisions remains a crucial area for investigation. This study aimed to analyse the influence of green products and green marketing on brand image and consumer purchasing decisions for tea packaged in Returnable Glass Bottling (RGB) in Malang City. This study uses a quantitative approach by collecting data from 160 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The data were analysed using the Partial Least Square (PLS) method. The goodness of fit test results showed that the model has good feasibility with a value of 0.545. The main findings indicated that green products and green marketing positively and significantly influenced brand image and purchasing decisions. Furthermore, brand image also significantly influenced purchasing decisions and was proven to be a strong mediator in the relationship between green strategies (products and marketing) and purchasing decisions. This study confirmed the implementation of effective green strategies can build a positive brand image, which in turn significantly encouraged consumer purchasing decisions in the packaged tea industry.

Abstract

This study investigated how the metal impregnation method affects the oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of dibenzothiophene (DBT) using H2O2 over Ni–Cu catalysts supported on bamboo-derived activated carbon. Catalysts with 1% and 2% Ni–Cu were prepared via simultaneous impregnation, while the effect of sequence was evaluated by comparing simultaneous and sequential impregnation (2%Ni-2%Cu/AC and 2%Cu-2%Ni/AC). The 2%Ni-2%Cu/AC catalyst was identified as the best catalyst, with a surface area of 802.36 m2/g, average pore diameter of 2.4761 nm, and total acidity of 3.1239 mmol/g. This catalyst achieved the highest DBT reduction of 90.81% under optimal conditions (0.2 g catalyst weight, 60 minutes, 40 °C, and 0.66 mL H2O2), confirming that the sequential impregnation route significantly enhances catalytic performance. In conclusion, the impregnation sequence in designing highly efficient desulfurization catalysts is important due to spray impregnation resulting in higher surface area, acidity, and catalytic activity compared to the simultaneous impregnation method.

Abstract

This study aims to optimize the sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) model for tuna trash fish in the coastal area of Pasuruan by involving three leading actors in the supply chain: fishermen, collectors, and processing businesses. The approach method used is the Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries (RAPFISH), based on Multidimensional Scaling (MDS), to evaluate the level of sustainability across environmental, social, and economic dimensions. The results show that collectors are in the fairly sustainable category (73.50%), while fishermen (55.62%) and Micro enterprise of trash fish type tuna (55.27%) are at the lower limit of the same category. The main levers for each actor include occupational safety, labor cost efficiency, and working environment conditions. The main conclusion states that the sustainability of the tuna supply chain still requires cross-dimensional improvements. The implications of these results underscore the importance of targeted actor capacity-building strategies, such as occupational safety training for fishermen, digitizing collector administration, and enhancing consumer services in micro enterprises of trash fish type Tuna, as well as opening up opportunities for further research based on an integrative approach to support long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Higher education as a business institution engaged in educational services cannot be separated from the reach of globalization. Changes in educational trends and the free movement of science and technology which are important aspects of globalization will affect the field of education. The final measurement of lectures is the achievement of the GPA as an achievement of the lecture process. To find out the predicted GPA value before the final semester, it can be done using the Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) algorithm using the Interim Grade Point Average (IPS) independent variable for semesters 1 and 5. With the prediction obtained at the end of semester 5, it is hoped that it can motivate students to improve their grades in the following semester. With a dataset from graduates of the Muhammadiyah University of Technology Jakarta (UTM Jakarta), a prediction model was built with the Python programming language, resulting in a moderate MLR model with an MSE evaluation value of 0.016 and R2 of 0.59 with the interpretation of a Good Model and will be better if other independent variables are added.

Abstract

The continuous shifts in Indonesia’s educational curriculum have raised significant concerns about the effectiveness of English language teaching at the elementary school (ES) level, particularly in rural areas. While the Merdeka Curriculum (MC) emphasizes early language acquisition, its implementation faces challenges due to gaps in teacher preparedness, limited resources, and disparities between urban and rural schools. This study explores English teachers’ perceptions of the MC and the challenges they encounter in its implementation in rural elementary schools. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis from eight English teachers in five ES in Baubau, Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data analysis involved data condensation, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that while teachers recognize the potential of the MC, their understanding remains superficial, primarily acknowledging it as a new policy. The challenges identified include a lack of professional development opportunities, inadequate resources, and insufficient facilities, hindering the curriculum’s effective application. Teachers often rely on internet-based resources that are not tailored to local contexts and struggle with the student-centered, differentiated learning approach promoted by the curriculum. The study suggests that successful implementation of the MC requires support at both the central and local levels, including teacher training, infrastructure improvements, and appropriate resources. Further research should explore strategies to enhance teacher competencies and address infrastructural barriers, ensuring the full potential of the MC in rural education settings.

Abstract

A performance evaluation system for the coffee supply chain is essential to ensure the sustainability of the coffee industry in the Malang Raya region. This study aimed to design a performance measurement system focusing on the social dimension of the coffee supply chain in Malang Raya, to assess the performance score of each indicator and provide improvement recommendations. The performance evaluation applies the Supply Chain Operations Reference (SCOR) model, with weighting of performance indicators using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), and normalization of values using the Snorm De Boer method. The Traffic Light System (TLS) is employed to identify priority indicators for improvement. Results from the SCOR-based assessment indicate that Karangploso farmers scored 61.03 (Average), Dampit farmers 70.01 (Good), and Wonosantri farmers 78.32 (Good). The performance score for the roastery was 67.66 (Average), while the coffee industry scored 79.53 (Good). Based on the TLS approach, improvement recommendations for farmers, roasteries, and the coffee industry include enhancing workforce training and skill development, increasing local labor absorption, developing policies to fulfill social standards, expanding strategic partnerships, and promoting the sustainability of the coffee industry through a holistic, multi-stakeholder approach.
