Abstract

The increasingly rapid technology gives birth to various digital advancements in the field of entertainment. A music video is a combination of song and video whose main purpose is not only merely entertainment, but also as a medium of promotion and campaign. Many musicians often insert messages about certain issues in their music videos, one of them is Avicii. The music video titled “For A Better Day” by Avicii contains the issue of pedophilia which is displayed explicitly. This research aims to reveal the myth of pedophilia victims represented in the music video by using Roland Barthes’ semiotics theory and Stuart Hall’s representation theory. The research uses a qualitative semiotic approach as the main foundation of observation. The focus of the research is how pedophiles are represented based on several indicators which then continue to the stigma and myths about victims of pedophilia. This research contains two types of data in its process, namely primary data and secondary data. The primary data are information obtained based on observation and analysis of the “For A Better Day” music video, while the secondary data are based on various literature studies such as books, journals, articles, theses, and the internet related to pedophiles, victims of pedophilia, as well as other relevant data connected to the research object.

Abstract

The concept of needs analysis has evolved over several decades. Today, the needs analysis process has become much more comprehensive. The goal is to gather information about learners and establish the desired learning environment and atmosphere for learning English for Specific Purposes (ESP). This research was conducted at Sharia Banking Students of Islamic DDI Ambo Dalle University in Polewali Mandar. There were 17 Sharia Banking students. The researcher identified 12 themes and all were consistently rated highly by various respondents as suitable learning materials. The findings of this research are expected to serve as a reference point for further research, particularly in the areas of syllabus/RPS development and the development of English teaching materials for Sharia Banking students. There are many significant factors that can serve as useful guides when creating ESP materials for speaking, listening, reading, and writing sub-skills. Most of students prioritize vocabulary development and speaking skills driven by their goals of working in a bank and effectively serving foreign clients

Abstract

This study examines the political economy of media representation, focusing on the coverage of Sesingal Tidung culture in Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Tarakan. Utilizing Vincent Mosco's media political economy theory, the research explores the commodification, spatialization, and structuration processes that shape how local culture is portrayed. The study highlights the challenges in preserving cultural identity amidst the pressures of commercialization and government policies. It finds that media coverage, while promoting economic potential, often undermines the authenticity of cultural expressions. This research contributes to understanding how media both reflects and influences the political and economic dynamics surrounding cultural preservation in the globalized media landscape.

Abstract

Abstract:  Mangroves are ecosystems that live in the transitional area between the ocean and land. Mangrove ecosystems play a key role in the sustainability of coastal areas. The existence of mangrove ecosystems is key to sustainability because it provides various important benefits both physically, ecologically, socially, and economically. These benefits are greatly felt by coastal communities whose areas have mangrove potential, namely Buti village, Merauke Regency, South Papua Province. Buti village is one of the unique villages and is located in the center of Merauke Regency city because the majority of the residents are the indigenous Merauke tribe (Marind). The existence of the mangrove ecosystem in Buti village affects the economic conditions of the community, because most of them make a living as fishermen. Along with developments and changes in ecological, social and economic aspects, Buti village will face challenges in maintaining and using natural resources sustainably, especially in the mangrove ecosystem. Although Buti village has quite potential natural resources, the lack of information and data regarding mangrove potential will hinder future development. Based on the emergence of several problems, the Community Service team implemented several programs as solutions to existing problems. The program included mapping mangrove potential using remote sensing technology, specifically the Mangrove Vegetation Index (MVI) from Landsat 8 satellite imagery, and providing outreach on mangrove utilization and conservation efforts. The results of the community service activities indicate that Buti village has significant mangrove potential mapped and a fairly good understanding of mangrove sustainability.Abstrak: : Mangrove merupakan ekosistem yang hidup di wilayah peralihan antara lautan dan daratan.
