Abstract

This study approaches the problem of banking efficiency in an innovative way. It aims to identify workable solutions for enhancing the efficiency of Indonesian banks as something that is very important after this pandemic Covid-19 time. In order to build a strategy map model, the research is divided into four steps: (1) a desk study of best practices for enhancing banking efficiency; (2) a survey for choosing strategies; (3) a focus group discussion to identify relationships among strategies; and (4) an Analytic Network Process (ANP) modeling to prioritize and build a strategy map model. According to the Strategy Map, the following areas should be prioritized for efficiency improvement: Financial, Customer Value, Learning and Growth, and Internal Process. Indonesian bankers could allocate limited resources in ways that would boost the efficiency of the majority of banks based on the designed strategy map. Despite the fact that these strategy maps are not universal, the research shows that the suggested method is a practical and objective way to create more justified strategy maps. Abstract

Volatility can be measured, but in fact, there is still frequent debate over the selection of precise measurements in describing volatility. In Indonesia, the commodity market is known for its volatile prices, which can impact the livelihood of farmers, traders, and the wider economy. The existence of possible asymmetry in the behavior of food commodity price volatility in the Indonesian market is not yet known. This paper aims to determine the best model to describe the volatility and to investigates the presence of the asymmetric effect on the volatility of food prices in Indonesia, over the period 2009-2019, on a monthly basis. Modeling of volatility uses the GARCH family model, both symmetric and asymmetric. The results showed that the GARCH asymmetric model produces better performance than the symmetric GARCH. Through the best GARCH asymmetric model, the food commodities used in this study showed a statistically significant asymmetrical effect on volatility. Nevertheless, policymakers and market players need to be aware of the impact of market volatility and implement measures such as real-time price information systems to mitigate its effects. The government can increase food production by providing support to farmers in managing supply efficiency and improving agricultural infrastructure. Abstract

Increased antibiotic consumption has exposed bacterial communities and environmental ecosystems to large amounts of antibiotic residues derived from the excretion of irrationally consumed antibiotics. This study provides an overview of antibiotic consumption patterns in hospital inpatients and the distribution of residues released into the environment. Medical record data was used to calculate the amount of consumption from hospital inpatients, and based on the type of antibiotics that have a DU90% value, ecotoxicological risk calculations were carried out to estimate the level of danger that occurs in the environment. A total of 27 types of antibiotics were prescribed, with a total consumption of 20504.42 Kg/year. Antibiotics such as ceftriaxone, cefixime, cefadroxil, and levofloxacin are the most widely used antibiotics based on medical record data. The results of estimating the release of antibiotic residues in wastewater obtained ecotoxicological risk values for algae, invertebrates, and fish greater than one (RQs>1). This condition indicates an ecotoxicological risk at the health facility site due to the release of antibiotic residues into the river water body from the WWTP outlet. The release of antibiotic residues into the water can result in ecosystem damage and pollution of the aquatic environment.

Abstract

Covid-19 condition is known to have had a major impact on the financial performance of issuers. The food and beverage industry is one of the mainstay manufacturing sectors in making a major contribution to national economic growth. The data used in this study was pre-covid data, year 2018 until 2021 during covid. The method used in this study is the Debt Service Coverage Ratio Pranowo et al. (2010). The analysis used in this research is descriptive analysis and panel data regression. The results of this research were that 26 company experienced a decrease in distress, 26 company experienced an company in Profitability, 26 company experienced an increase in Liquidity, 26 company experienced an increase in Efficiency, 26 company experienced a decrease in Leverage, 26 company experienced a decrease in Solvency. Factors that show a significant influence on financial distress in the period before Covid-19 are Efficiency, Liquidity. The factor of increasing efficiency also influences the reduction in the occurrence of financial distress. The factor of increasing liabilities also influences the increase in the occurrence of financial distress. Factors that show a significant influence on financial distress during Covid-19 are Solvability and Efficiency. This shows that during Covid-19, the increase in the value of debt will influence the tendency to increase the occurrence of financial distress. The decline in the value of income during Covid-19 also influenced the increase in financial distress. Advice to investors to be more selective in choosing food and beverage issuers as a place to invest during Covid-19. One important consideration is that investors focus more on factors that have a significant influence on Liquidity, Efficiency, Solvency.

Abstract

The impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on the host country’s economic growth is often discussed without considering the abundance of natural resources in the host country. The present study examines the relationship between FDI and economic growth while considering the presence of natural resources. Using panel data regression with data from 124 countries, the study finds that FDI inflows are increasing significantly, with pronounced differences between countries based on their per capita income levels. The results of the panel data regression analysis show that both FDI and natural resources positively affect economic growth. However, an increase in natural resources reduces the overall impact of FDI on economic growth. This result suggests that countries should attract FDI in sectors outside of natural resources to maximize the positive effects of FDI on economic growth.JEL Classification: F43, O4, P28, P45, Q0How to Cite:Fajrian, M. Abstract

This paper investigated the effect of coal prices and foreign ownership on the capital structure of coal companies in the Indonesian stock exchange. This study used debt to equity ratio (DER) to proxy capital structure and control variables, i.e., size, liquidity, and profitability. This study employed the statistic descriptive analysis and regression analysis of panel data and covered quarter data of 23 coal companies listed in the Indonesian stock exchange in a 3-year time horizon (2018-2020). This study concludes that ten out of 23 coal companies have more than 100% DER. Based on the sources of liabilities, debt originating from third parties is the primary source of debt for coal companies listed on the IDX in 2018-2020. The next order of sources of debt in a row is bank loans, debts from related parties, lease payables, bonds, and dividends. The result showed that ten out of 23 companies have a more than 100% capital structure value. The panel data regression analysis showed that capital structure significantly impacts coal prices, foreign ownership, size, liquidity, and profitability. As one of the main coal exporters, Indonesia has a good bargaining position in the international market. An investor can use the movement of coal prices as one of the criteria for deciding to invest in this industry.

Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the bond market in early 2020. As the pandemic unfolded, there was a surge in uncertainty and risk aversion among investors. One of the important factors used by investors when buying or investing in government bond instruments is the yield. Although considered a relatively risk-free alternative due to government guarantees, government bonds have other risks influenced by factors outside the bonds themselves. These factors include domestic and international economic conditions such as exchange rate risk, domestic and international interest rate risk, and other global events like the COVID-19 pandemic. Purpose: This research aims to analyze the factors affecting the yield of Indonesian government bonds with maturities of 5, 10, and 30 This research was conducted to identify factors that influence government bond yields using a symmetric approach with the ARDL model. Design/methodology/approach: This research was conducted to identify factors that influence government bond yields using a symmetric approach using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. These factors included the short-term interest rate, consumer price index, industrial production index, exchange rate, BI rate, stock price index, foreign exchange reserves, the Fed rate, the world oil price and US bond yields.Findings/Result: The industrial production index was found to have a significant negative effect on yields, while the stock price index was found to have a significant positive effect. There was no significant long-term effect of world oil prices on yields; the effect was only present in the short term. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted yields in the short term. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on bond yields is related to the perception of risk regarding a country's economic uncertainty. Conclusion: Indonesian government bond yields in the long term were influenced by almost all observed variables, except for world oil prices. The impact of world oil prices and the COVID-19 pandemic was found to occur only in the short term. Foreign exchange reserves were the main factor affecting 5-year bond yields, while the exchange rate was the primary factor influencing the yields of 10- and 30-year bonds. The BI rate and the Fed rate significantly impacted all three bond yields in the long term. Investors needed to be responsive to yield fluctuations and conduct thorough risk analyses to make informed investment decisions regarding government bonds.Originality/value (State of the art): This study contributes significantly to the understanding of the dynamic and complex interactions between domestic and global economic factors that affect Indonesian government bond yields. By using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) methodology, this research integrates both short-term and long-term factors, focusing on multiple bond maturities (5, 10, and 30 years). Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this research is to know how the role of government actors, private or investors and indigenous institutions (Subak and Pakraman) in the management of land resources (including water) so that the conversion of agricultural land can be prevented. The study was conducted in Tabanan, Bali Province. Depth interview techniques and stakeholder analysis as an approach of this research. A stakeholder analysis is instrumental to understand the social and institutional context of a program or project activities. The purpose of stakeholder analysis is to determine interests and their authority in preventing the conversion of agricultural land. The results showed that there are two forces actors (stakeholders) in the management of land resources (including water). The government in collaboration with investors and has a role as a player, while Subak and Pakraman have a role on the position of the object. Power relations are played by actors of government is still dominant compared to indigenous institutional Subak and Pakraman. Investors who have the capital strength and enthroned as the ‘king’ always pave the spatial plannings are on ‘profit-seeking’ biggest for himself. Power is seen as a mechanism of domination which is a form of power against the other in a relationship dominated by dominated or powerfull by the powerless. The duality of land governance (including water) between actors is the dualism solution. The duality that lies in the fact, that he could be seen as rules that a principle for action in a wide range of space and time, while it is the result (outcome) and means looping action thus overcoming space and time. Duality of land governance (including water) shows that in the future that is necessary is to put Subak and Pakraman in a position of political strength parallel to desa dinas and other government institutions.

Abstract

Palm oil commodity is still one of the largest foreign exchange contributors to the Indonesian states and remains as an attractive industry. In 2016, Indonesia was the main exporter of CPO with the highest production volume in the world. Palm oil issuers face business challenges from external and internal factors. This research was conducted to analyze whether the stock price of oil palm issuer in Indonesia was influenced by macroeconomic variables (crude oil price, exchange rate, inflation, and interest rate) and financial performance variables (DER, ROA, ROE, EPS, and AUR). This is important because if the macroeconomic variables and financial performance of the company have an impact on the company's performance reflected in the stock price movement of the issuer, this will be an important consideration for investors to take decisions. The results of this research using panel data regression (2010-2016 with quarter data) indicated that only one macroeconomic variable of Exchange Rate that had a negative significant effect on the price of palm oil stock while the financial performance variables in this research affecting the palm oil stock price significantly were DER, ROA, ROE, EPS, EPS t-1, and Stock Price t-1. All variables used in this research can represent the influence of the stock price of palm oil by 99.21%.

Abstract

Indonesia's banking efficiency is still a concern for many stakeholders, especially with the challenges to compete in the era of the ASEAN Economic Community. This study estimates the value of banking technical efficiency using Stochastic Frontier Analysis and shows that the numbers have not improved significantly in the last ten years. From the time-varrying SFA model it appears that the national banking industry experienced a decline in efficiency from 2007-2009, most likely due to the impact of the world financial crisis but improved again in 2010 and so on at a certain average level until 2016. Hausman test results from three SFA models show that the time-invariant model is statistically better so that it can be concluded that banking efficiency has stagnated over the past decade (2007-2016). The measurement result of Indonesian banking technical efficiency in that period have an average value of 0.677.
