Abstract

Porang flour has a fairly high glucomannan content, up to 65%, which can accelerate the formation or viscosity process in porang flour. The high viscosities cannot be applied to rotating flow nozzle-type hydrodynamic cavitation devices designed to form cavitation bubbles during degradation. In this study, the preeminent process parameters will be sought, especially for particle size, concentration of NaCl solution, and the ratio (porang flour : NaCl solution: isopropyl alcohol) to the inhibition of viscosity formation at porang flour. It aims to analyze those factors effect on viscosity inhibition to support the performance of cavitation bubble formation during the process of breaking cell walls in porang flour. This process was carried out in a factorial complete randomized design (CRD) on all 3 factors with 2 repetitions. The results show that the factor of particle size, the concentration of NaCl, and the ratio significantly affected the decrease in the viscosity of porang flour. Large particle sizes with high concentrations of NaCl can reduce the viscosity level up to 10 cP. The results of the addition of isopropyl alcohol in the ratio (mesh size 40: 5% NaCl: isopropyl alcohol) at a concentration of 2.5% can produce a viscosity of up to 10 cP with a gel level in the sample that is more invisible and not concentrated. In the experimental stage using the swirling flow nozzle type hydrodynamic cavitation technique with the selected formulation, it was seen that the calcium oxalate diminution in porang flour was up to 97.2 mg/100g with a degradation percentage of 52.63%. The residual calcium oxalate in porang flour contradicted the standard for human body tolerance, explicitly 71 mg/100g. Therefore, the resultant flour is not safe to consume. Furthermore, the yield of calcium oxalate at this experimental stage still does not meet SNI 7938:2020, that is, 30 g/100g.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) in moderating factors affecting the stability (Z-score) of Regional Development Banks (BPD) in Indonesia from 2012 to 2022. Using quarterly panel data regression, this research categorizes BPDs into two groups: Category-1 banks that have not met the minimum capital requirements and Category-2 banks that have met these requirements. The findings reveal significant differences in how various factors influence stability across these categories. In Category-1 banks, factors such as market competition (Lerner Index), market share of loans (MSL), and deposits (MSD) have a more pronounced impact on stability, highlighting their reliance on external conditions. Conversely, Category-2 banks exhibit greater resilience, with CAR positively contributing to stability, while factors like efficiency (TEF and SEF) and macroeconomic conditions (regional GDP) play a crucial role in risk management. The study also finds that factors such as Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR) and Non-Performing Loans (NPL) affect stability differently across categories, emphasizing the need for tailored risk management strategies. These insights provide practical implications for policymakers and banking management in optimizing regulatory frameworks and enhancing the stability of BPDs.

Abstract

The agricultural sector plays a crucial role in Indonesia, serving as both a provider of food and a key driver of economic growth. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing Indonesia’s agricultural sector from 1981 to 2021, focusing on agricultural production and its economic value. Climate change has emerged as a critical issue affecting agriculture, with greenhouse gas emissions serving as proxies for measuring its impact. This study employs the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to examine both short- and long-term relationships. The findings indicate that, in the long run, agricultural land area and economic growth significantly affect the agricultural sector. In the short term, agricultural land area, economic growth, and fertilizer usage are the key factors. However, climate change did not have a significant negative impact on agricultural decline. In contrast, fertilizer usage was positively correlated with agricultural production. These findings highlight the essential role of government policy in fostering agricultural sector development in Indonesia. Strategic initiatives should focus on ensuring an adequate fertilizer supply, expanding agricultural land, and promoting key economic sectors that drive growth and support agricultural sustainability. Abstract

Implementing the dual banking system in Indonesia offers options for customers to use banking services. Before selecting which service to use, customers should perceive each bank's advantages and disadvantages. It can be carried out by conducting a performance evaluation of each bank that generates high profitability measured by the Return on Assets (ROA) value. This study aims to perform internal and external factors analysis that affect bank profitability and to compare profitability between Islamic and Conventional banking in Indonesia using the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) method. The result shows that variable Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) and Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR) have a significant positive effect on Islamic Model in the long term, whereas policy rate and oil price (COP) hold a significant negative effect. In the Conventional Model, variable CAR, policy rate, and COP hold a significant positive effect, while the exchange rate shows a negative effect. FEVD results indicate that in Islamic Model, the diversity of banking profitability can be explained by various variables, indicating that Islamic banking is more engaged in the real sector than conventional banking.

Abstract

The demand for stevia extract consumption as an alternative sweetener that contains stevioside with zero-calorie is increasing. However, dark color and high tannin content from stevia leaf extract causes a disturbing aftertaste and reduces interest in consumption. Therefore, the purification process is a mandatory step to be done. Several studies on purification methods show the best approach by adsorption using bentonite. However, natural bentonite has limited adsorption capacity and low selectivity. An activation with acid and high temperature is expected to increase the adsorption capacity of color and its selectivity on maintaining the stevioside at the extract. This study aimed to obtain the optimum acid concentration and temperature for the activation using the Response Surface Method (RSM) experimental design and its application to the purification of stevia leaf extract. Based on the parameter of methylene blue number, the most optimum concentration of H2SO4 used for activation was 0.17 N for both natural bentonite. The heating temperature was 358°C for Na-bentonite and 481°C for Ca bentonite. The maximum adsorption capacities of activated Na and Ca-bentonite were increased from 15.65 and 38.23 mg g-1 to 197.72 and 169.52 mg g-1, respectively. The best adsorbent used for purification is Ca-activated, which increased extract clarification up to 81.37% at 655 nm and 86.64% at 410 nm compared to natural Ca bentonite. It also reduced tannin up to 97.46% and was more selective to recover 50.64% stevia content in the solution, which was higher than other previously reported studies.

Abstract

Microfiltration and ultrafiltration are used for the purification process of stevia extract to retain steviosides and remove tannins. The main objective of this study was to obtain the operating conditions for the purification process of stevia extract that resulted in the lowest stevioside rejection and highest tannin rejection. The purification process of stevia extract using microfiltration membrane was carried out at transmembrane pressure (1.20, 1.40, 1.65, 1.80, and 1.90 bar), cross flow velocity (0.04, 0.06, and 0.11 m s-1), and stevioside concentration of feed (7.12, 10.25, 14.03, and 18.47 g L-1). The stevia extract purification process used ultrafiltration membrane at transmembrane pressure (1.20, 1.40, 1.65, 1.80, and 1.90 bar), cross flow velocity (0.06, 0.09, and 0.12 m s-1), and stevioside concentration of feed (4.59 and 10.36 g L-1). The first step purification process was carried out using a microfiltration membrane and the resulting permeate was used as feed for the ultrafiltration process. The second step purification process was carried out using an ultrafiltration membrane. The best operating conditions of the microfiltration process were feed stevioside concentration of 14.03 g L-1 at a transmembrane pressure of 1.90 bar and a cross flow velocity of 0.11 m s-1 with a permeate flux of 82.90 L m-2 h-1. The best operating conditions of the ultrafiltration process used a feed stevioside concentration of 10.36 g L-1 with a permeate flux of 26.51 L m-2 h-1 at a transmembrane pressure of 1.90 bar and a cross flow velocity of 0.12 m s-1. The microfiltration and ultrafiltration processes resulted in total stevioside rejection of 59.52 % and total tannin rejection of 57.99 %.

Abstract

This paper empirically examines microeconomic factors that influence rental ratesand selling prices of office space. Quarterly time series data is used for the period of 1996:1to 2012:4. In addition, quantitative methods in the form of vector error correction model(VECM) are also used in this study. The result showed that there is a long term relationshipbetween microeconomic variables with the rental rate and selling price. IRF and FEVDshowed that rental rates and selling prices, in general, responded permanently to the shocksof microeconomic variables. Rental rate is predominantly influenced by rental rate followedby selling price, office space stock, construction cost and vacancy rate. Conversely, sellingprice is predominantly affected by rental rate followed by selling price, office space stock, construction cost and vacancy rate. Investors and developers can use the results of this studyas one of approaches for market analysis, especially office market analysis.

Abstract

Background: Social enterprises (SEs) in Indonesia had increasingly played a significant role in addressing multidimensional societal challenges through innovative, community-based approaches. Despite this progress, their development remained constrained by the absence of a coherent legal and institutional framework.Purpose: This study aims to critically examine the extent to which Presidential Regulation No. 2 of 2022 on National Entrepreneurship Development supports the growth and institutional legitimacy of SEs in Indonesia.Design/methodology/approach: Employing a comparative interpretive approach, the study combines critical legal document analysis with qualitative data from in-depth interviews involving twenty SE practitioners across various regions and sectors.Findings/Result: The analysis reveals a significant policy–practice gap. While SEs are referenced in the regulation, the absence of operational definitions, hybrid legal forms, incentive structures, and ecosystem support limits their recognition and functionality. In contrast, SE practitioners operate in informal and adaptive ways, innovating within fragmented institutional contexts and often without formal policy guidance. Conclusion: The findings underscore the need for institutional innovation and the co-creation of legal and policy mechanisms that are reflective of the hybrid realities of SEs. The study proposes the establishment of a dedicated legal framework, the development of tailored incentives, and the strengthening of a collaborative SE ecosystem in Indonesia.Originality/value (State of the art): This research contributes to the global discourse on social enterprise and open innovation by providing context-specific insights from a non-Western setting. It highlights the need for adaptive, inclusive regulatory approaches that bridge the gap between policy narratives and field-level realities in SE development. Keywords: hybrid organization, policy-practice gap, open innovation, regulatory framework, social enterprise
