Abstract

Background: Misinformation and harmful content spread on social media have sparked the anti-hoax movement. This research examines the motivations and participation of network users in combating hoaxes on digital platforms. Further investigation is required to examine the impact of framing, collective identity, and action factors on the propensity of netizens to actively engage in combating online hoaxes. Purpose: This study focused on framing, collective identity, and action components to explore the motivations behind netizens’ involvement in the anti-hoax movement on social media. Methods: In this study, web scraping, surveys, and netnographic techniques were employed to examine the motivations and trends of participation in the anti-hoax campaign. Data were collected from active members of MAFINDO on Facebook to facilitate this investigation. Results: Social media platforms, like those that MAFINDO uses, offer significant spaces for empowering and mobilizing communities to counteract false information and harmful content. The intentional construction of the anti-hoax movement, the establishment of a collective identity, and the alignment with the values of internet users were crucial elements in driving active engagement. The community employed efficacious tactics to counteract misinformation, such as verifying facts and presenting opposing viewpoints. These findings demonstrate the efficacy of social media platforms in resolving online problems. Conclusion: The effectiveness of the anti-hoax campaign hinges on factors like framing, collective identity, and agency that inspire internet users to engage and tackle the challenges of misinformation on social media. Implications: This study emphasizes how social media plays a key role in mobilizing internet users to fight hoaxes through effective framing, shared identity, and customized action factors.

Abstract

Pangandaran is an area that is vulnerable to tsunami disasters. It is caused the sonic activity of the Indo-Australian plate’s in the southern coastal regio. Roda Jari Mas (RJM) Radio as a community radio has the role of informing the community about tsunami disaster information. This study aims to determine the role of media literacy for RJM Radio listeners in dealing with disasters in Pangandaran Regency. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study research method through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on 9 participants. The results stated that the most widely used media exposure of Pangandaran people is radio, which is RJM Radio, television, and social media. Sources of disaster information obtained by the Pangandaran community include television and social media (if a disaster occurs). There are three aspects influenced people's readiness to face disasters, namely media exposure, government attention, and infrastructure. Social media can be a source of disaster information. The community has participated in several disaster mitigation simulations, but has not been supported by adequate infrastructure. The conclusion of the study is that the Pengandaran community has low media exposure could have an impact on a lack of knowledge and low levels of government attention, which resulted in a lack of disaster preparedness training, not to mention low levels of infrastructure. All of these things had a big impact on one thing, namely low preparedness to face disasters.

Abstract

Anti-feminism is a movement that is more opposed to reaffirming, maintaining, and increasing the subordination of women by patriarchal forces. For this movement, feminist thinking can lead to deviant actions because these thoughts are not in accordance with religious teachings. The group then uses digital media channels to create anti-feminism narratives which are published on Islamic faith-based information websites. The purpose of this study is to reveal how the representation of feminism in Islami.co media acts as a counter-narrative against anti-feminism discourse echoed by other Islamic groups. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The data collection technique was a literature study of documents from various references and the results of media analysis of Islami.co. The data analysis method used is the framing analysis model of William Gamson and Andre Modgliani which is elaborated with the perspective of Representation Theory by Stuart Hall. The result of the study shows that Islami.co is a digital media counter-narratives against anti-feminist discourse. The representation of feminism in this media is interpreted as part of the struggle of Islam in forming the spirit of justice for all mankind. Islami.co packs facts and clarifies the counter-narrative of anti-feminism discourse through authentic sources such as the Qur’an and hadith as well as various arguments that rely on empirical data. This effort is not just for creating justice and equality, but also as a form of obedience to what is commanded by Islam.

Abstract

The rise of social media has undeniably improved engagement, politics, and communication. The emergence of X has revolutionized political conversations and strengthened the political engagement of both citizens and politicians. It is crucial that we conduct a thorough examination of the importance of this phenomenon, particularly in the Indonesian context. This study aims to delve into the role of X in shaping political participation among Indonesian youth. The study was conducted among three hundred male and female students from five prestigious universities in West Java, Indonesia: UNPAD, ITB, UPI, UIN, IPB, and Telkom University. For data collection, the researcher used a quantitative method in which closed-ended questionnaires were distributed. In addition, the researcher also conducted interviews with randomly selected respondents to ask them about their experiences with X. This study shows that X greatly influences young people and plays an important role in teaching political awareness. X impacts young people by helping them gain knowledge about fundamental political rights. The results also show that messages on X influence respondents’ political orientation and help them decide who to vote for in elections. In addition, the study shows that X has become an excellent source to connect political leaders with their constituents. By analyzing the approaches of political leaders and young people behind the use of X, this study contributes to future research on political influence on social media, especially X.

Abstract

The presence of social media and various platforms in digital age had a huge impact on human mental health. Initially, it expands access to information about mental health and allows interaction with anyone, anywhere. However, overuse of social media can increase the risk of depression and anxiety due to comparison and competition among users. To protect well-being and mental health in the digital age, it’s important to strike a balance in using digital tools. More in-depth studies on mental health issues in the digital age are needed to provide insights and promote well-being. It’s also important to pay attention to related research trends to stay relevant. Bibliometric analysis methods were used to show growth patterns, highlight dominant areas of focus, and understand the knowledge dynamics of mental health research trends in the digital age over time. Using a quantitative and statistical approach, the results showed that the most productive author and source were Adrian Aguilera and JMIR Mental Health. The phrase 'pandemic' was the most cited. Research on this topic is mostly conducted on women and adolescents. Word cloud analysis shows the terms 'mental health', 'human', 'female' and 'adolescent' appear frequently in research titles. Recent topics include 'female', 'male', and 'risk factor', with the main focus on humans and mental health. While the most common research focus is on people and mental health itself.
