Abstract

Comet fish (Carassius auratus) is a type of freshwater ornamental fish with a high selling value due to its unique body shape and bright colour. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different LED (Light Emitting Diode) light colours on colour brightness, growth, and survival of comet fish. This study applies an experimental approach with an experimental design in the form of a completely randomized design (CRD) and consists of 5 light treatments and 3 replications, namely A (room light), B (white LED), C (blue LED), D (green LED), and E (red LED). The results showed that LED light treatment had a significant effect on the colour quality and feed efficiency, but did not significantly affect the growth and survival of comet fish. The best colour quality was found in treatment E (red LED) with an increase in the TCF (Toca Color Finder) score of 6.22 and colour performance on the back by 80.80%, pectoral fin colour by 64.91%, and tail fin by 71 .18%. The best feed efficiency was obtained in treatment C (blue LED) with a feed efficiency value of 57.48%. The behavioural responses of comet fish did not make any difference between each LED treatment. The water quality of the comet fish rearing media has a temperature value ranging from 25.70 – 29.20 C. The pH value ranges from 7.29 to 8.50. Meanwhile, dissolved oxygen ranges from 8.00 – 12.20 mg/L.

Abstract

Kappaphycus alvarezii is used in industry as a food ingredient, a source of hydrocolloids, cosmetics, food additives, animal feed, fertilizers, biofuels, and medicinal ingredients. K.alvarezii is cultivated in several areas in Indonesia, including on the island of Lombok. The production of K.alvarezii is related to its growth and it is related to its phytohormones. K.alvarezii cultivated in Lombok is currently not known for its composition and amount of phytohormones. The content of phytohormones at different planting ages is of course different. The purpose of this study was to determine the number of phytohormones in seaweed K. alvarezii at different planting ages. This study was conducted in Ekas Bay, Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat from June to December 2020. The study used experimental methods and descriptive data analysis. The results of this study explain that currently cultivated K. alvarezii contains cytokinins, auxins, and gibberellins. Cytokinins obtained on the 9th day of planting were 11.62 ppm and increased on the 18th day to 12.34 ppm. At the next planting age, it continued to decrease on the 27th day to 11.43 ppm and at harvest time, the 45th day of 10.69 ppm. Auxin detected in the seeds used was 644.93 ppm, on the 27th day of 14.27 ppm, on the 36th day of 1078.25 ppm. Giberilin was detected on the 9th day at 0.49 ppm. This study concluded that K. alvarezii at different planting ages had different phytohormones content.

Abstract

The need for tilapia fish supplies for the world market is not yet fully met, so the implementation of intensive cultivation is expected to increase aquaculture production results. Recirculation systems are an option for controlling the quality of cultivation water, and the addition of UV lights is expected to be able to kill bacteria found in cultivation waters. This research aims to evaluate the use of UV lamps in fish nurseries and analyze the best use of UV lamps in tilapia nurseries. This research was carried out for 45 days, at the Fish Production and Reproduction Laboratory, Mataram University using an experimental method with a completely randomized design (RAL) consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications, namely P1: without UV lamp, P2: 5 Watt, P3: 10 Watts, and P4: 15 Watts. Test parameters include absolute length growth rate, specific length, absolute weight, specific weight, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), Survival Rate (SR), water quality and bacterial abundance. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and continued with the Duncan test. The results showed that the best growth rate parameters, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), Survival Rate (SR) and bacterial abundance were found in P4 with an absolute length growth rate of 6.4cm, specific length of 0.05%/day, absolute weight growth of 9.7gr, specific weight of 0.06%/day, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) value of 0.7, Survival Rate (SR) of 94% and bacterial abundance of 5.7 x 105 CFU/ml.

Abstract

This community service project was conducted in Persiapan Empol Village, Sekotong District, West Lombok Regency, to enhance the knowledge and skills of local communities in mud crab (Scylla spp.) farming using the apartment system and recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). The village is rich in natural resources, particularly in fisheries, but limited knowledge has been a major obstacle in developing aquaculture practices. The method used in this project was a demonstration plot involving 15 members of the "Sopoq Angen" mud crab farming group. The activities included constructing an apartment system from used jerry cans, installing RAS, and monitoring water quality and crab growth over 3 months. The results showed a significant improvement in the partners' understanding and skills, with crab survival rates reaching 96% and good growth in body weight. The apartment system and RAS proved effective in supporting the success of mangrove crab farming in this coastal area.

Abstract

Seaweed producing areas in Indonesia include the Central Lombok region in Gerupuk Bay, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Cultivation activities still have constraints on the availability of seaweed seeds that are limited and only available in certain seasons. To meet the needs of seaweed seeds can use seedlings from tissue culture. Tissue culture is an explant (talus) culture that is carried out aseptically and sterile in a solid medium that is added with Growth Regulators (ZPT) to be able to regenerate to multiply into a complete new plant. The advantages of using tissue culture seedlings are faster growth rates, strong talus, many branches, and higher levels of disease resistance. However, the obstacle in using tissue culture seedlings is their small size. The purpose of this study was to analyze the growth of K. alvarezii seaweed planlets cultivated with different containers. The research method used a complete randomized design consisting of 4 treatments with 3 replications. P1 (bottle container), P2 (plastic bag container), P3 (basket), P4 (waring). The results of this study were the best growth in this study was the P2 treatment using plastic bags with an absolute weight of 0.89 g, and a specific growth rate of 0.77%. and the best tissue slices were also in the P2 treatment using plastic bags. The lowest growth in this study was in the P3 treatment (basket) with a weight of -0.06 g and a specific growth rate of 0.47%. The conclusion of this study is the best planlet growth in the P2 treatment using plastic bags.
