Abstract

In biology learning, the object of a virus cannot be seen directly. Augmented reality (AR) technology can help visualize the object of a virus in 3D, making it easier for students to learn about viruses. Therefore, this research aims to develop an AR-based learning media product called ARVi. ARVi was created using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The results of the analysis revealed that students need learning media with engaging visualizations. Therefore, ARVi was designed as a mobile application with various colors, images, videos, AR, and quizzes. ARVi underwent validation tests by experts, including biology education lecturers and biology teachers. The user responses were evaluated through a small group test involving 20 students, where questionnaires were distributed. Based on the questionnaire results, the average score for the media expert was 3.84, and for the material expert was 3.80. These scores indicate that ARVi is very valid for use as a learning medium. The results of the small group test were 2.85, indicating that ARVi is valid for use after minor revisions are made. The implementation results for 60 students, as determined through a paired t-test, showed a significant difference between the pretest and posttest results, with the posttest score being higher than the pretest score. The research results concluded that ARVi is suitable as a biology learning media.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) integrated Reading, Mind Mapping, and Sharing (RMS) on biological literacy and critical thinking skills in biotechnology material. This type of research is Quasi-Experimental with pre-test-post-test experiments and a control group design. The researcher conducted the research because most of the students who became respondents considered biotechnology material less attractive, so students' understanding and activeness could have been more optimal in the learning process. The research samples were 72 students of class X MIPA at SMA Negeri 2 Kota Serang, Banten. The research sample was divided into two groups: the experimental group that applied the PBL integrated RMS model and the control group that applied the PBL model. The research instruments used were biological literacy ability tests and critical thinking ability tests. Biological literacy skills were measured using biological literacy-based multiple-choice test instruments, while critical thinking skills were measured using essay test instruments. The hypothesis test used was MANOVA statistical analysis. The results of statistical tests showed a significant effect of PBL integrated with RMS on biological literacy and critical thinking skills on biotechnology material with a significance value of 0.000 < α. Students with an integrated RMS learning model are more effective than those with a PBL learning model, which is indicated by the post-test value being higher than the pre-test value. This research contributes to the field of biology education by showing that the PBL learning model integrated with RMS can be an effective alternative learning model to improve students' biological literacy and critical thinking skills. The findings of this study are expected to be useful for biology teachers

Abstract

Plant classification material is one of the materials listed in the basic competence of the curriculum applied in Indonesia and is less attractive to students because the characteristics of plants are quite difficult to identify so that the classification is complicated. It is known that most middle-level students really like games which are integrated in learning activities. Therefore, this study aims to develop a media called Plant-Puzzle Games (PPG) which is expected to have a positive effect in the form of increasing the learning motivation of junior high school students in studying plant classification material. The research method used in this study is a research and development method with the ASSURE model as the research design. Based on the results of the media validation test by experts, an average value of 3.25 was obtained, which indicates that the media was included in the valid category. Based on the results of the effectiveness test with the calculation of N-Gain, the average value is 0.49. This shows that, after using PPG media, the learning motivation of students has increased which is in the sufficient category.
