Abstract

Abstract— The making of instant brewed coffee using co-crystallization method is strongly influenced by the heating schedule (HS) applied. Five levels of HS (HS1, HS2, HS3, HS4 and HS5) were studied on the physico-chemical properties of instant coffee of Liberika Tungkal Jambi. The treatment was applied in a completely randomized design with 4 replications. The coffee was extracted using a special coffee extractor in a ratio of hot water/coffee powder of 15/1. Parameters observed were moisture content, ash content, pH, solubility, and total dissolved solids. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA and DNMRT at 5% significance. The results showed that the physico-chemical properties of instant coffee had significant effect on moisture content, pH, solubility, and total dissolved solids but not on ash content. The optimal HS to produce Liberika Tungkal Jambi instant coffee with good quality was heating at 110oC in the beginning, followed by 90oC at the initiation of crystallization, and 75oC when crystal growth (HS3). HS3 produces instant coffee with water content 1.57-1.61%; ash content 6.12-6.16; pH 5.50-5.56; solubility 98.22-98.25; and total dissolved solids 8.47-8.53% Brix. Abstract

This study concentrates on the design and construction of a laboratory-scale centrifuge for the separation of gum from crude palm oil (CPO). The extraction of gum from CPO is essential in the palm oil sector to guarantee that the finished product adheres to quality standards and is safe for consumption. We engineered the prototype centrifuge to accommodate six 600-mL bottles and achieve a maximum rotational speed of 1400 rpm. The design procedure utilised Autodesk Inventor software for CAD modelling and computations to ascertain the centrifugal force, power capacity, and shaft diameter. The process of manufacturing entailed cutting and shaping stainless steel into the necessary components, subsequently followed by drilling and milling operations for mounting points and interfaces. We implemented surface treatment to augment corrosion resistance and elevate visual appeal. The assembling procedure encompassed component integration, motor incorporation, and control system configuration. The experimental configuration involved centrifugal testing utilising 600-mL glass bottles with time intervals of 10, 20, 30, and 40 minutes at an average rotational speed of 924 rpm. The experiment showed that the centrifuge worked well to separate the gum and other contaminants from the CPO. The best separation happened after 40 minutes of centrifugation.

Abstract

The implementation of the Environmental Management Information System (EMIS) is crucial in supporting data-driven decision-making for environmental management in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the implementation of EMIS and its impact on data-based decision-making in environmental management. The research method used is a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observations, and document studies, as well as a survey of relevant stakeholders. The results show that the implementation of EMIS in Indonesia has not been optimal yet. There are several challenges, such as incomplete and unreliable data, limited integration between systems, inadequate human resource capacity, and weak institutional coordination. As a result, the use of EMIS data in environmental decision-making is still limited. To improve the implementation of EMIS and its impact on data-based decision-making, several efforts are needed, including (1) improving data quality and integration between EMIS and other relevant information systems; (2) enhancing the capacity of human resources in data management and analysis; (3) strengthening institutional coordination and commitment; and (4) increasing the involvement of stakeholders in the development and utilization of EMIS. The effective implementation of EMIS is expected to provide accurate, up-to-date, and integrated environmental data, thereby supporting more informed and evidence-based decision-making in environmental management in Indonesia.
