Abstract

Remote sensing data and geographic information systems are widely used for land suitability analysis for crops such as coffee and corn. This study aims to analyze and map suitable land for the plant known locally as ciplukan (Physalis angulata L.). Â As the cultivation of this plant is expected to be developed by the Institute of Technology of Sumatra, analysis of this type is needed. The parameters used in this study were slope, land use, rainfall and soil type. Information extraction from remote sensing data was carried out via visual interpretation of aerial photography used to create land-cover maps. Shuttle RADAR Topographic Mission (SRTM) data was converted from digital surface model (DSM) to digital terrain model (DTM) to provide elevation information. Land suitability analysis was performed using a scoring method and overlay analysis. The results obtained from the analysis identified several classes of land suitability for Physalis angulata L., categorized as suitable, less suitable, and not suitable. The less suitable class, scored at 9 to 11, comprised a total area of 180.96 ha, while the suitable area, scored at 12, comprised a total area of 49.1 ha.

Abstract

Silicate fertilizer is a micronutrient that is widely used by phytoplankton in its growth and development process. One type of microalgae that utilizes this nutrient is Skeletonema costatum. The growth of Skeletonema costatum is strongly influenced by the availability of nutrients, especially silicate, which functions in the formation of diatom cell walls. This research aims to determine the density level of Skeletonema costatum when applying silicate fertilizer at different doses on a laboratory scale. This research used an experimental method with four doses of silicate fertilizer, namely 3 ppm, 5ppm, 10ppm, 15ppm and 20ppm. The S. costatum culture was observed for 10 days under controlled laboratory conditions. The parameters observed were cell growth and density which were calculated every day using a hemocytometer. This research shows that applying silicate fertilizer at optimum doses can increase the growth of S. Costatum phytoplankton which is useful as natural food in aquaculture. The results of this study show that administration of silicate at a dose of 20 ppm was able to produce a cell density of 1.946.250 cells/ml. The growth of S. Costatum showed a significant increase in number, marked by the addition of 7-12 filaments. The most appropriate harvest time is in the exponential growth phase. Meanwhile, the results of measuring water quality parameters show values that are still within the optimal range for the growth of S. Costatum.

Abstract

The working area of Mangasa Public Health Center (Puskesmas Mangasa) is located in Makassar City, one of the metropolitan cities in Indonesia with a high population density. Based on data from the Makassar City Health Office, cases of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including stroke, have shown an increasing trend in recent years. The target partner group in this program is the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) community, consisting of patients with a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and other comorbidities that place them at high risk for stroke. Data from Puskesmas Mangasa indicate that over the past year, there has been a rise in stroke incidence among members of the Prolanis group. The majority of stroke patients suffer permanent disability due to delays in early treatment. This condition is exacerbated by the community’s limited knowledge of early stroke symptoms and the emergency actions that should be taken before receiving medical care at a health facility.Purpose of the Community Service Activity : To improve the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of the community—particularly Prolanis members—in early detection and emergency management of stroke. Identified Problems : There is a lack of understanding regarding stroke risk factors among the community, especially in recognizing the early signs of stroke using the FAST method (Face, Arm, Speech, Time). Many patients arrive at health facilities after the “golden period” (4.5 hours after stroke onset), resulting in a lower success rate of medical treatment. Proposed Solution : The community service activity is carried out through educational interventions on stroke emergencies. This community-based educational intervention is expected to enhance the knowledge, skills, and readiness of the community in managing stroke emergencies. Expected Outcomes of the Community Service The expected outcome is an increase in community knowledge, particularly among Prolanis members, about the importance of early detection and emergency management of stroke as an effort to reduce disability and mortality rates caused by stroke. Mandatory Output : Publication in a Community Service Journal. Additional Output: Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) registration for the “Stroke Early Detection Educational Flip Card.”Follow-Up Plan : A commitment will be established with the partner organization to ensure sustainability of the community service program.
