Abstract

Abstract

Background: Zoledronate is an intravenous bisphosphonate that effectively treats osteoporosis by inhibiting osteoclast resorption, thereby reducing the risk of fractures. However, its use in post-extraction patients may increase the risk of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (BRONJ). Objective: This study aims to analyze the effects of zoledronate on alveolar bone structure in Sprague Dawley rats, focusing on changes in osteoblast, osteocyte, and osteoclast counts. Methods: This cross-sectional study employed an observational analytical approach. Samples were categorized based on zoledronate exposure. Osteoblast, osteocyte, and osteoclast counts were measured using ImageJ software at 40x magnification. Data were analyzed using SPSS, with one-way ANOVA employed for statistical analysis. Normality and homogeneity tests were conducted to ensure data validity. Results: Zoledronate exposure resulted in a decrease in osteoblast and osteoclast counts, while osteocyte counts increased. Statistical analysis showed no significant differences between the zoledronate-exposed group and the control group. Conclusion: Zoledronate reduces osteoclasts and increases osteocytes, potentially leading to cellular apoptosis in osteoporosis patients. The risk of BRONJ can be minimized by administering zoledronate at appropriate doses and maintaining optimal oral hygiene to prevent bacterial activity.

Abstract

Nanocomposites are materials formed by combining two components, one or both of which are on the nanometer scale. The nanocomposite in this study is a combination of chitosan and silver nanoparticles produced through the synthesis of silver nitrate using Cymbopogon citratus extract. Silver nanoparticles have antibacterial abilities that can be utilized to overcome various diseases. However, their antibacterial properties may be reduced due to the tendency of silver nanoparticles to agglomerate. This can be overcome by the addition of chitosan as a stabilizing agent to prevent agglomeration and maintain the antibacterial effectiveness of silver nanoparticles. This study aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity of a nanocomposite formed by combining chitosan and silver nanoparticles synthesized using Cymbopogon citratus extract against Staphylococcus aureus through the diffusion method. The samples used included nanocomposites at concentrations of 6.25 mg/mL, 12.5 mg/mL, 15 mg/mL, 25 mg/mL, and 50 mg/mL, amoxicillin as a positive control, Acetic acid, and distilled water as negative controls. The results of antibacterial activity testing showed that all nanocomposite test concentrations had the ability to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus as evidenced by the formation of an inhibition zone around the disc paper. However, the highest antibacterial activity shown by the nanocomposites was still lower compared to the antibacterial activity of amoxicillin Keywords: Antibacterial activity, Chitosan, Cymbopogon citratus, Silver nanoparticles, Staphylococcus aureus

Abstract

Self-confidence is a fundamental aspect of early childhood personality development, influencing children’s readiness for social interaction, learning, and independent task completion. UNICEF (2022) highlights that children with higher self-confidence are more adaptive to challenges, more sociable, and better prepared for formal education. In Indonesia, strengthening character and personality has been emphasized in the Merdeka Curriculum and Early Childhood Education (PAUD) programs, including at the kindergarten level. Nevertheless, data from the Ministry of Education and Culture (2021) indicate that over 40% of children aged 4–6 still demonstrate low self-confidence, particularly in remote island regions with limited resources. This study applied Classroom Action Research (CAR) in TK B SPS Negeri Bale, aiming to enhance self-confidence through the implementation of Reward Asyik during Sabira Island play activities. The results revealed significant improvement across two cycles, where in Cycle I only 15–30% of children reached the Developing Very Well (BSB) category and the Undeveloped (BB) category remained high at 25–10%, while in Cycle II the proportion of children in the BSB category increased to 20–40% and the BB category dropped sharply to 5%. These findings suggest that well-designed and enjoyable rewards can effectively foster self-confidence, encouraging children to actively participate, take initiative, and engage more confidently in learning activities.
