Abstract

This article presents a systematic literature review (SLR) on concept understanding in physics learning. The method used in reviewing the literature is the SLR and PRISMA protocol with the stages of identification, screening, eligibility, inclusion, abstraction, and data analysis assisted using the Mendeley and VOSviewer applications. The findings of this study explain that there are still many difficulties, such as calculating in unsymmetrical field source distributions, such as two opposing point charges or currents, and misconceptions such as electricity and magnetism experienced by students and college students that affect students' understanding of concepts in physics learning. The challenges and misconceptions can be overcome by using various treatments, such as providing test instruments that can measure student understanding, developing conceptual models, and using virtual practicum activities. Future research needs to explore students' conceptual understanding of physics learning by using other topics that previous research has not studied.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate: (1) the enhancement of students' HOTS, and (2) the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model combined with the DELMAN method in enhancing students' HOTS in the context of Coulomb's Law. This study employed a quasi-experimental design utilizing a non-equivalent control group. The participants consisted of two classes of Grade 12 students: one class of Science 2 students as the experimental group, while a class of Science 1 students as the control group. A HOTS test consisting of 12 multiple-choice questions was used as the research instrument. Data analysis was conducted using N-Gain scores and General Linear Model (GLM). The findings showed a notable difference in the improvement of HOTS between the experimental and control groups, with a significance level of <0.05. The experimental group, which utilized the PBL model combined with the DELMAN method, achieved a gain score classified as moderate, while the effect size was considered very large. These findings suggest that the PBL model combined with the DELMAN method is effective in enhancing the HOTS of high school students.

Abstract

Physics identity plays a significant role in shaping individuals’ careers and academic engagement in physics. This study aims to analyze the development of research on physics identity over the past decade using bibliometric analysis based on Scopus data. A total of 114 documents were collected, then filtered based on publication year (2014–2024), English language, and article type, resulting in 60 articles for analysis. This study examines publication trends, geographical distribution, and under-researched topics in physics identity. Using VOSviewer and Publish or Perish 8 software, the findings indicate a fluctuating increase in publications, with a predominant focus on gender issues and identity-forming factors such as self-efficacy, recognition, and motivation. However, the research of physics identity concentrated in the United States, highlighting a lack of studies in other regions. Additionally, efforts to address the physics identity crisis are still minimal. This study provides a comprehensive synthesis of the field and highlights the need for further research on alternative strategies to mitigate gender stereotypes and enhance physics identity, particularly in countries with low research contributions.
