Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ethno-physics-based project-based learning model to improve students' 21st century thinking skills.  Inclusion criteria in this study are research published in 2022-2024, research must be experimental or quasi-experimental methods, research obtained through Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Wiley, ERIC, ProQuest, Fronteins and Web of Science databases, research must be relevant and consist of 1229 students. Data analysis in this meta-analysis with the help of JSAP application. The analysis of 24 studies concluded that the resulting random effect size value was 1.05 (high effect size category) with 95% confidence level.  This finding explains that the ethno-physics-based project-based learning model can improve students' 21st century thinking skills. This research can also provide new information related to the application of problem-based learning model in the future.

Abstract

Problem solving and STEM integration in education are important in many countries around the world. Problem solving and STEM integration in education can also be applied at various levels. This study aims to describe the development trends of research in the topic, as well as to identify the most relevant and widely cited countries, sources and topics in the related literature. Previous studies have shown that problem solving and STEM integration are mostly applied in secondary schools. In this study, we extracted from the Scopus database to analyze and evaluate the results of scientific publications related to problem solving and STEM integration in education during 2004-2024. The number of publication data that has been filtered is 106 publications, all of which are taken from the Scopus database. The results of the quantitative analysis show that research on problem solving and STEM integration in education has grown rapidly in the last 5 years. The most relevant and most cited country is the USA. Meanwhile, the most relevant source is CBE Life Sciences Education. The research topics are also quite diverse, focusing on several issues: engineering, education, humanism, professional aspect, etc. This research has limitations, because the publication data we analyzed was only data from Scopus and the analysis we used used VOSviewer and biblioshiny.

Abstract

A systematic literature review on problem solving skills in physics learning has been done. The purpose of this literature review is to discuss aspects that affect problem solving skills in physics and determine the proper learning method to improve problem solving skills in physics. The method used in writing this article is literature review. Literature was searched by accessing electronic databases online from Scopus. At the beginning of the search in the Scopus database using the keywords problem solving, physical education, students. 35 articles were obtained that were in accordance with the research topic, and limited publications for the last 5 years. Through this literature review, it was found that problem solving ability in physics learning is influenced by the relationship with the students themselves, teachers, and the school environment. The selection of effective learning models and media can improve problem solving skills in physics learning, such as the use of STEM-based Project Based Learning (PjBL) models, inquiry learning models, causal reasoning learning models, and the application of CPSPL (cooperative problem solving physics) models, as well as the use of module, web-based learning and interactive multimedia can improve student's problem solving skills.

Abstract

This study aims to review studies that use diagnostic tests to identify misconceptions in physics learning and examine the methods used to overcome them. The results of the review can be used by educators in choosing the type of diagnostic test and method to overcome misconceptions. The methods used are PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) and content analysis. A total of 50 articles published in 2018–2023 were analyzed, which focused on the development of diagnostic tests and the application of methods to overcome misconceptions. The results of the study indicate that misconceptions can be identified through various forms of diagnostic tests, such as two-tier, three-tier, four-tier, five-tier, six-tier, and multiple-choice tests. In addition, an educational computing-based approach or computer-assisted learning has proven effective in overcoming misconceptions, especially when supported by the right learning process and model.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of socioscientific issues (SSI) in improving learners' competence in learning the nature of science (NOS) based on articles in SCOPUS-indexed journals. This systematic review used the PRISMA framework to classify the pedagogical aspects of SSI in science education. Of the initial 717 articles, 53 were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results showed that SSI-based NOS learning can develop competencies such as argumentation, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and conceptual understanding. Examples of SSI integration include climate change, biotechnology, biodiversity, waste management, and chemical engineering. Its implementation involves inquiry, problem, and model-based strategies, with methods of discussion, debate, digital resources, and role-play. This review concludes that SSI provides a transformational approach to NOS learning by enhancing learners' cognitive and interpersonal competencies, making it a promising framework for future educational practice.

Abstract

This study explores problem-solving skills in physics education by systematically reviewing literature from articles published between 2015 and 2024. The review adhered to the PRISMA-P guidelines and analyzed 18 relevant studies sourced from the Scopus database. The findings reveal that the majority of research focuses on enhancing students' problem-solving abilities, particularly in terms of improving critical thinking, reasoning, and creativity in physics instruction. The integration of technology into teaching methods also emerged as a prominent trend in supporting the development of these skills. High school students were the most common research subjects, followed by college students, underscoring the importance of fostering problem-solving abilities early in education. Furthermore, the study highlights a predominance of quantitative and mixed-methods approaches, suggesting the need for more research into practical classroom applications. The study recommends further investigation into adaptive learning models and calls for more qualitative research to deepen the understanding of problem-solving skills in physics education.

Abstract

Integrating technology has a positive impact on science learning. Technology multiplatform can be used as a didactic tool is physics education technology (PhET). This study aims to develop worksheet integrated PhET simulations. The development adopted the 4D model. The designed activity aims to engage students in critical thinking. The instrument for measuring critical thinking consists of 5 questions based on the critical thinking aspect: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, and explanation. Content and media experts and two practitioners validated the media. The validation result shows a V index between 0.80 - 1.00 for all aspects with very high categories. The readability test was administered to 20 students and gained very good results. The effectiveness test was conducted on two different classes. The experiment class uses a worksheet integrated PhET, while the control class uses a worksheet without PhET. Students in the experiment class had higher critical thinking skills scores than those in class control. It can be interpreted that using worksheet-integrated PhET affected students' critical-thinking skills. The results of this study can be used as a reference for integrating technology into science learning

Abstract

Attitude towards physics is one of the key factors in determining the success of physics learning. The solution to ensure a positive attitude towards physics requires a good diagnostic instrument. This study aims to develop an instrument that can measure attitudes toward physics validly and reliably. This study was conducted by validating the instrument with 8 experts physics education. Validation data was analysed using the Vaiken formula a score of 0.90 was obtained, which means that all items are valid. After the validation stage, the instrument was tested on 423 respondents consisting of high school students from the provinces of East Java and Riau. The test data were analysed through four steps: 1) exploratory factor analysis, 2) confirmatory factor analysis, 3) Cronbach's alpha reliability, and 3) item response theory using the graded response model. The EFA results showed that from 16 question items, they resulted in groupings into 4 factors: Teacher and Physics as a Future Vocation, Physics learning, Physics as a Process, and Enthusiasm toward Physics. The reliability of the items based on cronbach's alpha score 0.94 category a very good reliability level. The performance of each item through the IRT GRM analysis shows that the item discrimination power is in the moderate to very high category, and the item support is in the easy to moderate category. The CATP test is feasible and reliable in measuring attitudes toward physics

Abstract

Technology advancements and an increasing number of mobile phone owners among junior high school students have opened opportunities for teachers to integrate technology into the learning process, especially in science learning. Before implementing mobile learning in the classroom, researchers must assess whether students are ready to adopt the technology. Adding the perspective of junior high school students in West Java, the research aims to present a quantitative survey on students' mobile learning readiness. An online questionnaire survey was used to collect data in this study. The results shown that students can use mobile learning in science learning. Almost all students have mobile phones to support mobile science learning. However, some students are still worried about the problem of costs when learning using mobile because it requires internet access. Nevertheless, students agreed to know more about mobile learning. These findings can serve as a reference point for further studies if mobile science learning is widely used in junior high schools.

Abstract

Enhancing High School Physics Learning Through Augmented Reality: A Bibliometric and Systematic Review. Objective: This study aims to investigate the research trends, opportunities, effectiveness, and challenges of implementing Augmented Reality (AR) technology in physics education through a systematic literature analysis. Methods: This research employed a bibliometric and systematic review approach of 45 selected journal articles obtained from the Scopus database. Data were extracted on May 2, 2025, covering publications from 2020 to 2025. The initial search using the keywords "(augmented reality) AND (physics learning)" yielded 167 documents, which were rigorously filtered based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The analysis was conducted using the Biblioshiny (R) software to generate thematic maps, publication trends, and collaboration networks. Findings: The findings reveal that AR technology provides significant opportunities to develop interactive, immersive, and contextual physics learning experiences, particularly in visualizing abstract physics concepts. AR has proven effective in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding, scientific literacy, and critical thinking skills. However, its implementation still faces crucial challenges, including a lack of curriculum-aligned content, limited technical infrastructure, and insufficient teacher training. Conclusion: Integrating AR technology into the physics curriculum has demonstrated a significant and positive impact on enhancing learning quality. Successful implementation depends on collaborative efforts among curriculum developers, educators, and policymakers to overcome the identified challenges. These findings provide a strategic foundation for developing sustainable, adaptive, and relevant physics education in the digital era. Keywords: augmented reality, conceptual understanding, physics learning, biblioshiny, systematic literature.
