Abstract

The Frankfurt School represents one of the most influential traditions of critical thought in the development of twentieth-century social theory and philosophy. This article aims to examine the impact of Frankfurt School thought particularly the ideas of key figures such as Max Horkheimer, Theodor W. Adorno, Herbert Marcuse, and Jürgen Habermas and to analyze the relevance of their ideas within contemporary social contexts. Using a qualitative approach through an extensive literature review, this study examines key concepts such as critical theory, instrumental rationality, and the culture industry, as well as their implications for power relations, advanced capitalism, mass media, and modern democracy. The findings demonstrate that the Frankfurt School’s critique of instrumental rationality and cultural commodification remains highly relevant for understanding contemporary social problems, including digital media dominance, consumerism, and the crisis of the public sphere. This article argues that Frankfurt School thought continues to provide an essential analytical framework for critically engaging with the contradictions of modern and postmodern societies in the era of globalization and digital technology.

Abstract

Background. Tuberculosis (TB) is still a health problem, especially in developing countries including Indonesia. TB is the third largest cause of death after cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, and is the number one disease in the infectious disease group. WHO targets the achievement rate of new TB case detection (Case Detection Rate/CDR) of 70%. The CDR achievement rate in Bengkulu Province is 42% and 28% TB in children. This achievement is still very low when compared to the target of the Pulmonary TB control program. The discovery of TB sufferers in the DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Shortcourse) strategy is carried out passively (passive case finding), namely the screening of TB suspects is carried out only on sufferers who visit health service facilities, especially health centers. An alternative to finding TB cases is Active Case Finding, namely capturing TB suspects by involving the participation of the community including cadres to increase the coverage rate of TB detection, examination and treatment. Objective. This study aims to determine the effect of characteristics, knowledge, attitudes and motivation of health cadres on the discovery of TB suspects in Bengkulu City. Method. Cross-sectional research design. The sample of the study was health cadres. Data analysis using the chi square test. Research results. The test results obtained p value > 0.05 so that there is no difference in the level of knowledge, attitude and motivation of health cadres between health centers with low TB suspect detection and health centers with high TB suspect detection. The test results obtained p value > 0.25 so that the variables of gender, occupation, age and work experience have no relationship with the discovery of TB suspects. The test results obtained p value 0.159 means p value <0.25 so that the education level variable has a relationship with the discovery of TB suspects. Conclusion. Most of the coverage of TB suspect detection is still low in Bengkulu City at 87%. The variable of education level is related to the detection of TB suspects in Bengkulu City. The variables of knowledge level, attitude, motivation, gender, type of work, age, and work experience are not related to the detection of TB suspects.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The study purpose was to identify the factors inhibiting the formalization of the partnership between TBM Komunitas Gada Membaca and MIS Winduraja, as the existing collaboration remains informal despite its important role in supporting digital literacy programs. Materials and methods. This study employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and literature review involving three purposively selected informants. Data analysis was conducted interactively through the stages of data reduction, data display, and the formulation as well as verification of conclusions. Results. The findings indicate that the barriers to formalization arise from several key factors. First, the dominance of trust-based relational governance encourages reliance on informal coordination without clear documentation of roles and responsibilities. Second, the strong focus on program implementation prioritizes immediate impact over administrative processes such as monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. Third, limited administrative capacity, particularly due to dependence on volunteers, hinders the preparation of formal agreements and systematic documentation. Fourth, the low perceived urgency of formalization, influenced by operating under the same institutional foundation, reduces the need for formal contracts. Lastly, formalization tends to occur only when triggered by external demands, such as funding or reporting requirements, rather than through proactive planning. Conclusion. The barriers are multidimensional, involving structural, organizational, and relational aspects. Future research should explore hybrid governance models to strengthen sustainable literacy partnerships.

Abstract

Introduction: Effective patient safety practices in pre-post partum and perinatology units are crucial for ensuring high-quality care for mothers and children. These practices are expected to reduce maternal and child mortality rates, which remain significant. Patient safety implementation in hospitals depends largely on the patient safety culture within each institution. Objective: This study aimed to assess the application of patient safety culture in pre-post partum and perinatology wards. Methods: The research employed a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. Quantitative data were gathered using the AHRQ (Agency for Health Research and Quality) questionnaire. Meanwhile, the qualitative research used an instrumental case study approach insights were derived from in-depth interviews with 52 nurses working in these units. Results: Results show an overall positive response rate of 67.8% across the 12 dimensions of patient safety culture, indicating satisfactory levels. The dimension with the highest positive response rate is teamwork at 38%, while openness had the lowest at 6%. Challenges in patient safety program implementation include lack of safety culture surveys, inadequate incident reporting systems, high blaming culture, lack of support, delayed case reporting, and financial constraints. Reporting, analysis, and evaluation are predominantly limited to internal hospital processes. Conclusion: The obstacles encountered in implementing a patient safety culture are the behavior of healthcare workers and the lack of optimal support from management. The recommendations given are the formation of a Patient Safety Committee, education about safety culture for healthcare workers, Monitoring and evaluation of the patient safety program that has been implemented.

Abstract

This study investigated students’ perceptions toward the use of Educandy in learning English vocabulary at SMPN 1 Maiwa. The research aimed to explore how students perceived the implementation of Educandy as a game-based learning platform and to identify the internal and external factors influencing their perceptions. A qualitative descriptive design was employed in this study. The participants consisted of 20 eighth-grade students, while five students were purposively selected for in-depth interviews. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, classroom observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that students had positive perceptions toward the use of Educandy in vocabulary learning. Students reported that Educandy made learning more enjoyable, interactive, motivating, and easier to understand compared to traditional vocabulary learning methods. The platform also increased students’ engagement, participation, and confidence during classroom activities. In addition, interactive features such as matching games, quizzes, and word puzzles supported vocabulary retention through repetition and active learning. The study further found that students’ perceptions were influenced by internal factors, including motivation, interest, confidence, and learning preferences, as well as external factors such as teacher support, instructional strategies, classroom environment, and the characteristics of the learning media. Among these factors, external factors showed a slightly stronger influence on students’ positive perceptions. In conclusion, Educandy can be considered an effective game-based learning medium that supports vocabulary learning and enhances students’ learning experiences in English classes.
