Abstract

Introduction: Effective patient safety practices in pre-post partum and perinatology units are crucial for ensuring high-quality care for mothers and children. These practices are expected to reduce maternal and child mortality rates, which remain significant. Patient safety implementation in hospitals depends largely on the patient safety culture within each institution. Objective: This study aimed to assess the application of patient safety culture in pre-post partum and perinatology wards. Methods: The research employed a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. Quantitative data were gathered using the AHRQ (Agency for Health Research and Quality) questionnaire. Meanwhile, the qualitative research used an instrumental case study approach insights were derived from in-depth interviews with 52 nurses working in these units. Results: Results show an overall positive response rate of 67.8% across the 12 dimensions of patient safety culture, indicating satisfactory levels. The dimension with the highest positive response rate is teamwork at 38%, while openness had the lowest at 6%. Challenges in patient safety program implementation include lack of safety culture surveys, inadequate incident reporting systems, high blaming culture, lack of support, delayed case reporting, and financial constraints. Reporting, analysis, and evaluation are predominantly limited to internal hospital processes. Conclusion: The obstacles encountered in implementing a patient safety culture are the behavior of healthcare workers and the lack of optimal support from management. The recommendations given are the formation of a Patient Safety Committee, education about safety culture for healthcare workers, Monitoring and evaluation of the patient safety program that has been implemented.

Abstract

This study investigated students’ perceptions toward the use of Educandy in learning English vocabulary at SMPN 1 Maiwa. The research aimed to explore how students perceived the implementation of Educandy as a game-based learning platform and to identify the internal and external factors influencing their perceptions. A qualitative descriptive design was employed in this study. The participants consisted of 20 eighth-grade students, while five students were purposively selected for in-depth interviews. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, classroom observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that students had positive perceptions toward the use of Educandy in vocabulary learning. Students reported that Educandy made learning more enjoyable, interactive, motivating, and easier to understand compared to traditional vocabulary learning methods. The platform also increased students’ engagement, participation, and confidence during classroom activities. In addition, interactive features such as matching games, quizzes, and word puzzles supported vocabulary retention through repetition and active learning. The study further found that students’ perceptions were influenced by internal factors, including motivation, interest, confidence, and learning preferences, as well as external factors such as teacher support, instructional strategies, classroom environment, and the characteristics of the learning media. Among these factors, external factors showed a slightly stronger influence on students’ positive perceptions. In conclusion, Educandy can be considered an effective game-based learning medium that supports vocabulary learning and enhances students’ learning experiences in English classes.

Abstract

The postpartum period is a critical phase that requires optimal care to prevent maternal and neonatal complications. However, postpartum mothers living in the wetland area of Sri Meranti Subdistrict, Pekanbaru City, still have limited knowledge and skills regarding postpartum care and proper breastfeeding techniques. This community service program aimed to analyze the effectiveness of community empowerment-based postpartum care education in improving the knowledge and breastfeeding skills of postpartum mothers in wetland areas. The program employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach involving 30 postpartum mothers in the working area of the Umban Sari Public Health Center from July to September 2024. The intervention was conducted through health education, demonstrations, and re-demonstrations using booklets and educational videos. Evaluation was performed using a knowledge questionnaire and the LATCH Assessment Tool. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test with a 95% confidence interval. The results demonstrated a significant increase in postpartum mothers’ knowledge scores from 70.3 ± 8.5 to 89.7 ± 5.4 after the intervention (p=0.001). In addition, the total LATCH score increased from 5.4 ± 1.8 to 9.0 ± 0.9 after the intervention. All LATCH components showed improvement in breastfeeding technique ability  among postpartum mothers. Educational interventions grounded in community empowerment have the potential to enhance postpartum mothers’ knowledge and breastfeeding skills. Such interventions may be considered routine promotive strategies within maternal health services in wetland communities. Keywords: Community empowerment, health education, postpartum care, postpartum mothers, wetlands area.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women worldwide. Patients undergoing chemotherapy frequently experience nutritional deterioration, which negatively impacts treatment outcomes and quality of life. Mobile health (mHealth) applications offer an innovative approach to supporting nutritional management in this population. To synthesize scientific evidence on the effect of mHealth applications on the nutritional status of breast cancer patients and survivors. A literature review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Searches were performed in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar for articles published between 2020 and 2026. Inclusion criteria included RCTs, quasi-experimental, or experimental studies examining mHealth interventions on the nutritional status of breast cancer patients. From 270 articles identified, 6 met the inclusion criteria after systematic screening. All six studies demonstrated that mHealth interventions showed promising positive effects on nutritional outcomes. Key findings included weight reduction, improved BMI, enhanced diet quality, increased consumption of fruits, vegetables, and protein, and improved self-efficacy in dietary management. mHealth applications demonstrated high feasibility and acceptability among participants. These findings should be interpreted cautiously, as most studies were pilot or feasibility studies with small sample sizes. mHealth applications show promising potential in improving nutritional status and eating behaviors in breast cancer patients and survivors. Further large-scale RCTs with standardized nutritional outcome measures and longer follow-up periods are warranted to establish robust evidence.

Abstract

Adolescent girls are a vulnerable group to reproductive health issues, particularly a lack of knowledge about menstrual care and dysmenorrhea, which can disrupt daily activities. This community service activity aims to improve adolescent girls' knowledge and skills in maintaining reproductive health and implementing non-pharmacological methods to reduce menstrual pain. The program involved 30 participants through participatory health education and demonstrations of dysmenorrhea exercises at MTs Bustanul Ulum, Pekanbaru City. Evaluation was conducted using pre- and post-tests. Results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores from 83.33 to 98.33, as well as improved ability to perform the exercises correctly. Most participants also reported reduced pain and greater relaxation. This activity effectively increased reproductive health literacy and introduced safe alternatives for managing menstrual pain.
