Abstract

Objective: Pregnant women possess a high risk of suffering from a deficiency of vitamin D3. A deficiency of Vitamin D3 is associated with pregnancy-related complications, such as preterm birth, preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, and babies born small for gestational age. Furthermore, it creates a risk of infection and breathing problems when the baby is born, and affects the life of the child. Methods: A descriptive study was done and consisted of participants who met the following criteria: 20 - 35 years of age, BMI between 18.5-24.9, had a record of their last day of menstruation (HPHT). Informed consent was also obtained and signed by all the participants. Women who had histories of preeclampsia and eclampsia, bleeding, premature rupture of membranes, gemelli pregnancy, abortion, and immature births, and mothers with comorbidities such as heart, lung, liver, intestinal, bone, kidney, thyroid, and immunology diseases were excluded from the study. Examination of 25 (OH) D was done using Enzyme-Linked Immuno Sorbant Assay (ELISA) method with 1.5 ml of the sample which had been centrifuged and had its serum extracted. Results: The study began in July 2020 with a total of 80 pregnant women in their second trimester (TM II). The participants had an average height of 154.5 cm and body weight before pregnancy of 51.8 kg. The results obtained showed insufficient levels of 25 (OH) D levels in 72 (90%) participants and sufficient/normal levels in 8 (10%) participants. Conclusion: Most pregnant women at Sleman Indonesia had insufficient levels of 25 (OH) D.

Abstract

Introduction: The problem of malnutrition and stunting is a trending global health problem that has a major impact on children's physical growth and cognitive development. The condition of the mother's mental and psychological well-being is an important substance that influences the mother's care in caring for stunted malnourished children. The mother's mental and psychological condition is related to the mother's self-acceptance. The mother's psychological dynamics are shown in the form of emotions such as anger, feeling offended, feeling embarrassed, and triggering stress because the mother is full of negative thoughts. The findings from this literature review explain the existence of unpleasant experiences while mothers care for their children. This unpleasant experience generally takes the form of words from health workers and questions from other people regarding their child's condition. Psychological and behavioral changes in mothers arise as a result of public stigma about stunted children which is seen as an indication of a lack of parental care, such as providing poor food which can risk lowering self-esteem and prevent mothers from accessing health services. Objective: This study aims to investigate in depth about the extent of the impact of self-stigma about having children with malnutrition or stunting on the psychological conditions that occur in mothers who have children with malnutrition or stunting. Method: This research uses a qualitative approach through a literature review method based on the PRISMA guide. Result: Based on several previous studies, negative community stigma regarding malnourished and stunted children has a significant impact on the psychological state of mothers. This is motivated by an unpleasant experience. There are several themes in the articles that have been reviewed. It was found that self-stigma is recognized by the perception of guilt, the concept of stigma is identified as the shame of having a child with nutritional deficiencies-stunting because they often get questions from others regarding their child's condition. The second theme is about the various psychological changes experienced by mothers. The third theme of self-stigma experienced by mothers significantly affect their behavior, often resulting in reluctance to seek health services for their children. Conclusion: The study cloncludes that self-stigma has a detrimental effect on the psychological conditions of mothers, leading to reduce health-seeking behavior and exacerbating the health issues of malnourished and stunted children. The findings underscore the need for interventions that address stigma, provide emotional support, and promote positive community attitudes towards malnutrition and stunting. It is necessary for health workers and cadres to convey information about stunting by conveying it in a kind and non-accusatory manner, and maintaining confidentiality about the child's condition by not being conveyed in public openly. In addition, to support mothers emotionally, it is necessary for health workers to develop education related to psychoeducation, counseling, promotion, emotional support, and home visits for mothers who are indicated to be absent from health services.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Adolescent diabetes is on the rise and is considered dangerous due to a combination of unhealthy lifestyle elements, such as unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity. The number of adolescents suffering from obesity has increased due to exposure to modern sedentary lifestyles, fast food diets full of sugar and fat. Diagnosis for type 2 diabetes is generally considered in the group of adolescents who experience hyperglycemia and have risk factors such as obesity, family history of type 2 diabetes, and/or symptoms of metabolic syndrome.  This study aims to conduct a systematic review of existing evidence on the management of diabetes mellitus in adolescents, focusing on nutritional approaches and nutrition interventions, and to evaluate the effectiveness of various strategies in achieving good glycemic control, improving quality of life, and reducing the risk of diabetes-related complications in adolescents who have been diagnosed with the disease and to determine the factors that influence dietary adherence in adolescents with diabetes mellitus in evaluating the nutrients they consume. This research method is a systematic review on the management of diabetes mellitus in adolescents, especially in the evaluation of nutritional approaches and nutritional interventions. The research data sources included literature from reputable journal articles both nationally and internationally, found through search engines such as Google Scholar, Elsevier, and Science Direct. It is important to implement diabetes mellitus (DM) management in adolescents to prevent death and improve their quality of life. Adolescents with DM have a high risk of developing serious complications such as cardiovascular disorders, nerve damage, vision problems, and kidney problems if blood sugar is not controlled. In addition, it is important to approach nutrition and nutritional interventions in adolescents with diabetes mellitus to achieve optimal glycemic control. Evaluation of glycemic control strategies is critical in monitoring the effectiveness of interventions and adjusting treatment according to changes in health conditions. Internal factors such as knowledge, family support, and social support are also a focus in understanding the level of adherence of people with diabetes mellitus. Management of diabetes in adolescents is crucial to prevent serious complications. Nutritional approaches and glycemic control are important, as well as continuous evaluation. Internal factors such as knowledge and social support also influence adherence. Keywords: Management of Diabetes Mellitus, Adolescents, Evaluation of Nutritional Approaches, Nutritional Interventions.  ABSTRAK Diabetes pada remaja semakin meningkat dan dianggap berbahaya karena kombinasi elemen gaya hidup yang tidak sehat, seperti pola makan yang tidak sehat dan kurangnya aktivitas fisik. Abstract

Stunting, a nutritional concern, exerts adverse effects by influencing the physical and functional attributes of a child's body, contributing to elevated rates of child morbidity. Globally, the prevalence of stunting remains considerably high, registering at 22.2% in 2017, with approximately 55% of affected children in Asia and 39% in Africa. To Evaluate the connection between exclusive breastfeeding and stunting rates in lower middle-income countries. The research design was a systematic review. Article searches were conducted using Google Schoolar, Pubmed, Science Direct, and Scopus databases. The keywords used were "Exclusive Breastfeeding OR Lactation AND Stunting" and "Exclusive Breastfeeding OR EBF OR Lactation AND Stunting". Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used when selecting article titles and abstracts. The study encompassed a total of 9,949 and 16 articles for analysis. Exclusive breastfeeding provides adequate calories to fulfill the growth requirements of toddlers. Consequently, toddlers who do not exclusively breastfeed are at a higher risk of experiencing stunting. Among the thirteen articles examined in this research, an association between exclusive stunting and breastfeeding was consistently observed. Conversely, three articles conveyed no discernible correlation between exclusive breastfeeding and stunting. Furthermore, these articles highlighted the limited advantages of exclusive breastfeeding in preventing stunting. Toddlers who were not exclusively breastfed exhibited a higher probability of experiencing stunted growth, demonstrating a clear connection between the occurrence of stunting and exclusive breastfeeding

Abstract

Introduction: Providing optimal nutritional interventions during critical ages can save children from the risk of malnutrition and long-term health effects such as growth disorders, cognitive disorders, illness, and death. Although the WHO has issued guidelines for community-based nutritional interventions, their implementation varies across regions. To explore the impact of community-based nutrition interventions on children with undernutrition aged 6–23 months. Methods: This study used the reporting guidelines from the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), which have been registered with PROSPERO with registration number CRD420251008033. The search strategy employed the Population-Intervention-Comparisons-Outcomes (PICO) framework. The search was conducted using databases from Scopus, PubMed, and ProQuest. Risk of bias assessment used the critical appraisal tool from the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Results: 13 articles were reviewed in this systematic review, consisting of 9 RCTs and four quasi-experimental studies. Community-based nutrition interventions identified in the literature review included nutrition education for parents or caregivers of children with malnutrition, such as stunting, wasting, underweight, or anemia, aged 6–23 months. Other interventions included behavior change communication, complementary feeding practices, or food supplementation, as well as integrated community health programs and cash transfer and economic-support models. Conclusion: Community-based nutrition interventions, particularly nutrition education, can significantly improve mothers' knowledge and behavior in managing malnutrition. However, interventions will have a greater impact when combined with other interventions, such as behavior change communication, food supplementation, cash transfers, and integrated programs across various sectors. These findings can serve as a basis for policy formulation and implementing malnutrition prevention programs targeting vulnerable groups through targeted and sustainable community-based nutrition interventions.
