Abstract

Delays in the handling of cases including rabies will affect the severity level caused by the inaccurate handling and detection of cases and tends to be slow. Considering that the era of digital technology is now developing so rapidly, almost all information can be accessed easily today. The purpose of this activity is to provide knowledge or socialization of the plan for a rabies self-reporting program by the community through the Nasu Suwoho application. Community service activities are carried out using a Participatory Action Research approach where the community as the subject and object of this community service activity plays an active role in planning to implement the use of the rabies reporting application. A qualitative approach with in-depth interviews was conducted to the respondents by the research team. Service activities consist of opening, giving material, delivering videos and testing applications. With the Nasu Sowoho application, it is hoped that the signals of rabies cases, humans and animals infected with rabies in the community, health center staff and animal health centers can be properly monitored. This application displays questions in the form of self-diagnosis of the general public about the clinical symptoms of bite cases of rabies-transmitting animals. These clinical symptoms are adapted to general and typical signs that are easily recognized by the public so they can be reported easily. Keyword: Rabies, Digital Health, Qualitative Study

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by tuberculosis germs (Mycobacterium tuberculosis). This disease is still a global health problem. It is estimated that one third of the world's population has been infected with pulmonary TB, where the majority of pulmonary TB sufferers are of productive age (15-50 years). Pulmonary TB is chronic and is typically characterized by the formation of granulomas and tissue necrosis. Pulmonary TB can be transmitted through the air, when someone with active TB in the lungs coughs, sneezes or talks. The research method used in this research is quasi experimental research with a one group pretest-posttest research design. The location of the research was in Aceh Singkil Regency. The research was carried out from July to December 2023. The research sample was 30 representatives of junior high school students based on school recommendations. The research results showed that 23 (38.3%) respondents had knowledge about eating nutritious food, and 25 (83.3%) respondents had the attitude that if they were suffering from TB, they would go to the health center. The conclusion is that students' knowledge and attitudes have increased by being given TB training, especially knowledge about TB being caused by heredity and consuming nutritious food.

Abstract

Introduction: Papua is the region with the highest malaria burden in Indonesia, accounting for about 84% of the total national malaria cases. The high incidence rate indicates the need for a multidimensional approach, including analysis of environmental determinants. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the influence of environmental risk factors on the incidence of malaria in Papua, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional observational design was used based on secondary data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey. The analysis was conducted on 37,987 respondents using Chi-square test and binary logistic regression. The variables analyzed included housing conditions, physical quality of water, wastewater drainage systems, and waste management. Results and Discussion: The results showed that, based on bivariate analysis, four environmental factors were significantly related to malaria incidence (p<0.05). However, in the multivariate analysis, only three variables remained significant, wastewater drainage system (OR=1.203; p<0.001), poor waste management practices (OR=1.103; p<0.016), and housing conditions (OR=0.884; p<0.001). while water quality had no significant effect. Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of incorporating environmental management into malaria control strategies, especially in endemic and resource limited regions like Papua, through multisectoral collaboration between health and environmental authorities.

Abstract

Malaria remains a major public health concern in many countries, including Indonesia, particularly in endemic regions such as Papua. The province of Papua records the highest number of malaria cases, contributing approximately 92% of the national burden. Fluctuations in morbidity and mortality rates due to malaria in this region underscore the urgency of targeted control measures. Several environmental and climatic factors are believed to influence malaria transmission, yet comprehensive analyses in Papua remain limited. This study aimed to determine the relationship between climatic factors and the incidence of malaria in Papua. This type of research is descriptive observational with ecological study design. The data source was secondary data from the Indonesian Health Survey for malaria cases and the Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BKMG) for climate factor data. Based on the results showed that Rainfall (p=0.187; r=-0.445), humidity (p=0.627, r=-0.176), temperature (p=0.091, r=0.802), wind speed (p=0.004, r=0.818), and duration of sunshine (p=0.038, r=0.661). Findings suggest that wind speed and solar irradiation are significant predictors of malaria incidence, thus environmental management strategies should consider consider thes variables.

Abstract

Background School-age children are a key group in health development because healthy habits start forming early. However, various national and international surveys show that students still face risks like poor nutrition, smoking, and lack of physical activity. The School Health Unit (UKS) program aims to address these issues through promotive and preventive school-based health services. Methods This study used a qualitative descriptive approach with the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. Data were gathered through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Informants were chosen through purposive sampling and included the UKS coordinator, school principal, teachers, and students. Data validity was maintained through triangulation of sources and techniques. Results In the Context aspect, there was no formal written policy or established organizational structure for UKS. The Input aspect revealed limited health facilities and the absence of personnel specifically assigned to these facilities. In the Process aspect, only health screening and periodic check-ups were implemented effectively, while other activities, such as health education, Little Doctor training, and nutrition and first aid services, were not conducted according to standards. For the Product aspect, some students demonstrated positive behavioral changes, but these changes were not systematically documented or evaluated. Conclusions The implementation of the UKS program at SD Negeri 163089 Tebing Tinggi City remains symbolic and lacks significant promotive and preventive health efforts. Enhancing the organizational structure, improving health infrastructure, and strengthening intersectoral collaboration are crucial for ensuring the sustainable and effective execution of the program UKS.

Abstract

Abstract

Each year, more than 500,000 cases of Leptospirosis are reported worldwide. This disease is spread globally, especially in humid tropical countries like Indonesia. Based on the 2023 Indonesian Health Profile, there were 2,554 cases with a CFR of 8%, and Central Java ranked second (884 cases). This study aims to determine the relationship between climate factors and the incidence of Leptospirosis in Central Java in 2019–2023. The study used a quantitative approach with an ecological study design. The sample includes data on Leptospirosis incidence, air temperature, humidity, rainfall, and sunshine duration for 60 months. This study utilized secondary data sourced from the Central Java Provincial Health Office, accessed through the Central Java PPID website, for Leptospirosis case data and the BMKG website for Climate data. Data processing was carried out using the Spearman rho correlation test method. The results are the relationship between air temperature and leptospirosis incidence (p=0.053; r=-0.251), the relationship between humidity and leptospirosis incidence (p=0.000; r=0.546), the relationship between rainfall and leptospirosis incidence (p=0.022; r=0.295), and the relationship between the duration of sunlight and leptospirosis incidence (p=0.002; r=-0.383). It was concluded that humidity, rainfall, and duration of sunlight were significantly related to leptospirosis incidence, while temperature was not. It is recommended that the government strengthen vector control, especially during the rainy season, that the community maintain personal and environmental hygiene, and that further research use a wider time and area coverage with more complex methods.

Abstract

Formalin is a prohibited food additive due to its harmful effects on human health. An inspection conducted by the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) in North Sumatra at Tavip Market, Binjai City, found the presence of formalin in several types of fresh fish being sold. The low level of traders’ knowledge regarding the dangers of formalin is believed to be one of the main factors contributing to its use in fresh fish. This study aimed to analyze the association between traders’ knowledge levels and the presence of formalin in fresh fish at Tavip Market, Binjai City. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed. The study population consisted of all 32 fresh fish traders at Tavip Market, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through a validated questionnaire to measure traders’ knowledge levels and laboratory testing using the spot test method to detect formalin in fish. Data analysis was conducted using Fisher’s exact test. The results revealed a significant association between traders’ knowledge levels and the presence of formalin in fresh fish (p-value = 0.021). Low knowledge levels were found to increase the risk of formalin use in fresh fish. Continuous education and intensive supervision by relevant authorities are necessary to reduce the circulation of formalin-contaminated fish in traditional markets.

Abstract

Acute respiratory infections (ARI) in toddlers remain an urgent health issue in Indonesia because toddlers are susceptible to infection due to their immature immune systems. The physical environment of the home plays a major role as a risk factor, especially in homes with poor ventilation, minimal lighting, high humidity, and inadequate sanitation. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between housing density, the presence of ventilation, the presence of windows, lighting, and temperature with the incidence of ISPA in infants in Pasar Simundol Village. The research method used is quantitative with a cross-sectional design. The sample size in this study is 55 infants, calculated using the Lameshow formula. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi-square test. The results of the study showed a relationship between the presence of windows (PR = 1.697; p = 0.019 < 0.05), the presence of ventilation (PR = 1.080; p = 0.030 < 0.05), lighting (PR = 1.753; 0.011 < 0.05), temperature (PR = 1.733; p = 0.012 < 0.05), and humidity (PR = 1.853; p = 0.026), while there was no association with housing density (PR = 1.175; p = 0.832 > 0.05). It is recommended that the community improve the physical conditions of their homes, such as adding ventilation, windows, and maintaining cleanliness and lighting to reduce the risk of respiratory infections in infants.
