Abstract

Parental support is one of external factors that can influence students’ ’learning achievement.  Several studies have examined the influence of parental support on students’ achievement in learning Mathematics and Science subjects. A little attention has been given to English learning. To fill the gap, this study aimed to determine whether there is a significant influence of parental support on students' English learning achievement. The research method used was quantitative with an ex post facto design. The researchers selected 36 eighth-grade students at one of state junior high school in Riau Province, Indonesia as the sample by using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire to measure the level of parental support, while students' English learning achievement data were obtained from scores taken from documentation provided by the English teacher. The data were analyzed by using simple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 20.0. The results showed that the calculated t-value was greater than the t-table value, (3.103 > 2.032),   indicating that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of parental support on students’ English learning achievement. The influence of parental support on students’ English achievement was 22.1%. So, it is suggested that parents should give their support to their children in learning English to make their children get good achievement in learning English.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines school–parent partnership strategies in supporting students’ transition from primary school to junior high school in two contrasting settings: SDN Tegallega 1 (urban) and SDN Murnisari (rural) in Cianjur Regency, Indonesia. Although national policies mandate family engagement and 12-year compulsory education, partnership practices at the school level are often still incidental, one-way, and not explicitly directed at preparing parents—academically, financially, and psychologically—to accompany their children to the next level. Using a qualitative multiple case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The findings show that both schools implemented partnership strategies consisting of joint program planning, parenting activities, learning assistance, and intensive communication through school committees. However, contextual differences shaped the emphasis: the urban school prioritized academic preparation and PPDB literacy, while the rural school emphasized motivation, moral support, and access facilitation. The study concludes that school–parent partnerships that are planned, participatory, and sustained can increase students’ readiness to continue to junior high school and strengthen positive relations among schools, parents, and students. The study recommends formalizing partnership programs in school work plans and developing two-way communication mechanisms tailored to local socio-economic conditions.

Abstract

Learning motivation is a critical factor in vocational education, yet many students at SMK Negeri 2 Pekanbaru show suboptimal motivation levels, potentially linked to the quality of teaching methods, learning media, and school facilities. This study aims to analyze the influence of these three variables on students’ learning motivation at SMK Negeri 2 Pekanbaru. Using a correlational quantitative survey design with an ex post facto approach, the study involved 67 students from class X.2 selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through a validated Likert-scale questionnaire (40 items) and analyzed using Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. The results show that all three variables are significantly correlated with learning motivation: teaching methods (r = 0.319; p = 0.008), learning media (r = 0.463; p < 0.001), and school facilities (r = 0.411; p < 0.001). Simultaneously, the three variables significantly influence learning motivation (F = 7.150; p < 0.05), explaining 25.4% of its variance. Partially, only learning media exerts a significant influence (β = 0.333; p = 0.019). These findings highlight the importance of optimizing learning media as a primary strategy to enhance student motivation in vocational high school settings.

Abstract

Play is one of the ways in which children learn and stimulate various aspects of their development. This study aims to examine how play can enhance children’s cognitive development. The research method used was a systematic literature review following the PRISMA-P protocol, with nine journal articles serving as primary data sources. The findings indicate that structured play-based learning has a significant impact on children’s cognitive abilities, such as problem-solving, logical thinking, and symbolic thinking with educators and play materials serving as fundamental factors in optimizing developmental stimulation. For policymakers, the implications include ensuring equitable access to play resources, developing structured modules, providing professional training, and integrating play-based approaches into early childhood teacher education programs. For educators, practical recommendations include utilizing traditional games and natural materials as accessible play resources, while fostering meaningful collaboration between teachers and parents. Further research is recommended to examine the impact of free play on enhancing children’s cognitive development.
