Abstract

This study aims to determine the ability of metacognition in solving HOTS problems in the context of problem related to activities in the context of the flag ceremony yard in solving problems based on initial mathematics ability. This research approach was descriptive qualitative involving 3 students as research subjects who were selected based on high, medium, and low initial mathematics abilities. The data were validated by using method triangulation techniques, namely tests and interviews. The results showed that students with high initial mathematics ability showed good metacognition skills in solving HOTS problems in planning, monitoring, and evaluating activities. However, they still need to improve their ability to evaluate the repair strategy if there is an error. Students with medium initial mathematical ability showed good metacognition skills in several aspects but needed to improve some aspects. Students with moderate mathematics ability have a good basic understanding of metacognition in planning activities. However, they need to improve their metacognition skills in monitoring and evaluating when solving HOTS problems. Meanwhile, students with low initial mathematical ability show limitations in utilizing metacognition skills in planning, monitoring, and evaluating activities, as a result, students experience difficulties in solving problems. So, teachers need to design teaching materials that can improve students' mathematical abilities and metacognition.

Abstract

This research aimed to develop the learning tools of the biological subject in high school and the teaching biology ability of the teacher candidates through microteaching-lesson study (MLS). The combination of MLS activities was unfolded in preparing the real learning conditions for prospective teachers who will conduct the field practice in the actual classroom. Data were collected through the observation sheets, interviews, and microteaching scores that represented the students' teaching ability. The data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that each student capable of designing three learning plans with good and excellent categories. The teaching ability and classroom management of students increase by the three activities that conducted, as can be seen from the mean of first (55,77), the second (71,88), and the third (84,38) practice values. However, the students experienced difficulties in the stages of preparation and implementation concerning the more time needed as well as the more cycle activities. Therefore, the students argued that by the only three cycles of activities they experienced, then the LS would be constrained to introduce in the field practice program at school. The more cycles of MLS and guidance from the lecturer is still needed to make prospective teacher ready to implement LS in their field practice at school.

Abstract

The implementation of the “Merdeka” curriculum requires students to have high-level thinking skills such as problem-solving skills. However, in reality, this is in contrast to the students’ability in solving the real problem. The purpose of this study is to describe the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in improving students' problem-solving skills. The Problem Based Learning is a learning model that syntaxes on the problem-solving process, so that students are able to provide solutions and familiarize themselves with the skills of problems analysis, collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking. Problem solving indicators that will be measured are connecting information/data to understand the problem, evaluating alternative problem solving presented, and making a design to solve the problem. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which took place in SMAN 1 Jogorogo with the subject of tenth grade (XA) students totaling 40 on the material of environmental change. The data were collected through observation, written test Daily Test (DT) and documentation which were then analyzed through comparing the average results of each indicator. The results showed that the initial data regarding the indicator of connecting information/data to understand the problem was 76.8%, increased in the first cycle to 82.2%, and in the second cycle to 86.25%. The indicator of evaluating alternative problem-solving initial data was 77.5%, increased in the first cycle to 85% and the second cycle to 87.5%. The indicator of making a design to solve the problem in the initial data was 80% and increased to 82.5% in the first cycle and 85% in the second cycle. From the various explanations above, it shows students’ problem solving skills has increased as seen from the Daily Test (DT) scores. Keywords: Problem Based Learning (PBL), problem solving, Classroom Action Research (PTK). Environmental Change.
