Abstract

Anxiety is a common mental health issue among university students, which significantly affects their academic performance and well-being. While social support is widely recognized as a protective factor against anxiety, its effectiveness may vary depending on individual psychological factors such as religiosity. This study aims to examine the moderating role of Islamic religiosity in the relationship between social support and anxiety among Indonesian university students. By investigating the interaction, the research seeks to provide insights into faith-based coping mechanisms that may enhance students’ psychological resilience. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 523 university students in Indonesia using purposive sampling. Data were collected through an online questionnaire measuring anxiety (DASS-42), Islamic religiosity (MUDRAS), and social support (MSPSS). Moderation analysis was performed using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) Model 1. The findings indicated that both social support (Z = -3.09, p = .002) and Islamic religiosity are significantly associated with lower anxiety levels (Z = -3.52, p < .001). Furthermore, Islamic religiosity moderated the relationship between social support and anxiety, suggesting that students with higher religiosity experience greater psychological benefits from social support (Z = -2.39, p = .017). These results highlighted the importance of integrating religious and social support into student mental health programs. Universities should consider implementing faith-based support systems to enhance students' psychological resilience and well-being, particularly in religiously oriented communities

Abstract

Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah MUDRAS (Muslim Daily Religiosity Assesment), MSPSS (Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support), dan SELSA-S (The Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale-Short).

Abstract

This study aims to examine the moderating role of cognitive flexibility in the effect of gratitude on depression in individuals who have lost their jobs. A total of 216 respondents (male = 188, female = 28) from various regions in Indonesia participated in this study through purposive sampling technique. In this study, three psychological scales were used including gratitude scale (α = 0.947), depression subtest of the DASS-42 (α = 0.933), and cognitive flexibility inventory (α = 0.794). Moderation analysis revealed that cognitive flexibility played an important role in reducing depression (β = -0.121; p = 0.041), while gratitude did not show a significant role in reducing depression (β = 0.005; p = 0.947). Cognitive flexibility plays a role in reducing depression, regardless of the level of gratitude of individuals who have lost their jobs.

Abstract

One of the most essential values in the Islamic boarding school education system is the concept of the Panca Jiwa Pondok that was developed by Imam Zarkasyi in the Gontor Boarding School. These values serve as a guideline for students' lives and reflect the richness of local wisdom that can be developed within the scientific framework of Islamic Psychology. This article aims to critically examine the relevance of the five values of the Panca Jiwa Pondok to modern psychological theories such as Logotherapy, Self-Determination Theory, Positive Psychology, Attachment Theory, and Existential Psychology. This article analyzes the academic literature from indexed journals in the last ten years through the qualitative literature study method. It relates it to Qur'anic verses and Hadith as the primary normative sources. The study results show a strong wedge of meaning between Islamic values that live in Islamic boarding schools and fundamental concepts in modern psychology. The integration between the local values of Islamic boarding schools, Islamic teachings, and contemporary psychological theories has the potential to strengthen the construction of Islamic Psychology that is more contextual and relevant in answering the educational needs and spiritual mental development of students in the contemporary era. This study emphasizes the urgency of developing Islamic Psychology that is not only normative but also rooted in the social and cultural reality of the ummah.

Abstract

Hypertension, characterized by a persistent elevation of systolic and diastolic blood pressure above 140/90 mmHg, is often referred to as a silent killer due to its asymptomatic nature and tendency to be detected only after complications arise. This study examines the effectiveness of dhikr relaxation therapy in enhancing self-acceptance among middle aged adults with hypertension. A quasi experimental design was employed, involving 20 hypertensive patients (5 males and 15 females) recruited through purposive sampling from the Kratonan Community Health Center in Surakarta, Indonesia. Participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (receiving dhikr relaxation therapy) or a control group (receiving no intervention), with 10 individuals in each group. The Self-Acceptance Scale was used to assess participants’ levels of self-acceptance. Hypothesis testing using the Friedman test indicated a statistically significant improvement in self-acceptance following the intervention (p = 0.002). These findings suggest that dhikr relaxation therapy is effective in promoting self-acceptance and reducing stress among individuals with hypertension. The study recommends that healthcare practitioners might consider incorporating dhikr relaxation techniques into routine care through structured training programs, as a means to enhance psychological well-being and support better health outcomes in hypertensive populations.

Abstract

This research aims to reconstruct the value of Ukhuwah Islamiyah as a cultural system in Islamic organizations, grounded in the local values of Islamic boarding schools through the Panca Jiwa Pondok framework. Islamic organizations, especially pesantren, face challenges in aligning traditional values with contemporary organizational practices. A systematic review using the PICOS approach was conducted, analyzing 23 quantitative studies retrieved from Scopus and Google Scholar. The findings reveal four key dimensions of Ukhuwah Islamiyah in organizational settings: spiritual bonding, collective empathy, relational leadership, and deliberation. These dimensions significantly enhance organizational commitment, job satisfaction, loyalty, and Islamic performance across pesantren, madrasah, and Islamic higher education institutions. The study contributes by offering a novel conceptual model of Organizational Ukhuwah that integrates Panca Jiwa Pondok’s traditional values with contemporary organizational psychology. This model provides practical guidance for pesantren leaders and policymakers to foster inclusive decision-making, strengthen leadership training, and build a supportive climate based on spiritual and collective values. The research suggests further exploration of the practical implementation of this model in diverse Islamic institutions.

Abstract

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), despite their developmental limitations, remain spiritual subjects who can be introduced to religious life. This study investigates the nature of autistic children’s spiritual experiences, the significance of nurturing religiosity, and the strategies used to cultivate religious practices. Employing a phenomenological design, the research was conducted in North Sumatra with six informants: three autistic children and their parents. Data were collected through in-depth interviews. The findings reveal diverse patterns of religiosity: some children display difficulties grasping the abstract concept of God, while others develop heteronomous faith shaped largely by parental instruction and environmental exposure. Religious practices are typically performed through routine imitation rather than internalized theological comprehension. However, sustained parental guidance and supportive environments appear to foster more complex forms of religiosity. Importantly, religiosity functions not only as spiritual formation but also as a psychosocial resource that promotes self-regulation, emotional stability, and reduced anxiety. Effective strategies include habituation, modeling, repetition, and active engagement within supportive and inclusive communities.
