Abstract

Education aims to optimally develop students' cognitive, affective, and psychomotor potential. In physical education, motor skills are a crucial aspect that affects students' concentration, coordination, and stamina in learning. This quantitative study with a correlational design aims to determine the contribution of motor skills to student learning outcomes. The data were analysed using simple linear regression tests. The results showed a significant relationship between motor skills and academic achievement, as evidenced by a significance value of < 0.05. Thus, the alternative hypothesis (H_1) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H_0) was rejected. The findings showed that motor skills contributed 59.5% to student learning outcomes, while the remaining 40.5% was influenced by other variables. This study confirms that strengthening psychomotor skills is a key factor in accelerating students' academic performance at school.

Abstract

Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning does not only focus on developing physical abilities but can also be integrated with the enhancement of students’ numeracy skills and affective aspects, such as learning enjoyment. However, monotonous PJOK instruction may reduce students’ enthusiasm for participating in learning activities. Therefore, innovative learning strategies are needed, one of which is the use of numeracy games in PJOK learning. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of numeracy games as a Project-Based Learning (PJBL)-based PJOK instructional strategy in increasing elementary school students’ learning enjoyment. This research employed an experimental method with a pretest–posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of 50 students in the experimental group and students in the control group. The experimental group received PJOK instruction through PJBL-based numeracy games, while the control group was taught using conventional PJOK instruction. The results showed that the mean pretest score of learning enjoyment in the experimental group was 66.12, while the control group scored 66.45. After the intervention, the posttest mean score of learning enjoyment in the experimental group increased to 73.28, whereas the control group reached 68.14. The results of the t-test indicated a significance level of 0.002. Therefore, numeracy games in PJOK learning based on PJBL are effective in enhancing elementary school students’ learning enjoyment.

Abstract

Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) plays a crucial role in developing students’ physical fitness, motor skills, and socio-moral values through structured physical activities; however, recent studies indicate a decline in students’ learning motivation, particularly in contexts where instructional approaches remain conventional and insufficiently innovative. This study aimed to examine the effect of gymball game innovation in PJOK learning on students’ learning motivation. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed. The population consisted of 360 tenth-grade students from public senior high schools in Jombang, Indonesia, with 72 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated Likert-scale motivation questionnaire adapted to the physical education context and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test due to the ordinal nature of the data. Results indicated an increase in motivation scores following the intervention, with the median improving from 63 to 72, and statistical testing confirming a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (Z = −6.214, p < 0.05) with a large effect size (r = 0.73). These findings suggest that gymball-based learning innovation positively influences student motivation in PJOK classes. The study highlights the importance of integrating creative and interactive physical learning media to foster engagement and intrinsic motivation, contributing conceptually and practically to the advancement of student-centered physical education pedagogy.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of two service techniques, namely flat serve and spin serve, on direct point acquisition in a simulated tennis match situation. The subjects of the study consisted of 20 male junior tennis players, aged 14–16 years, who were divided into two groups based on service technique. Each group was to use one type of serve consistently during three sets of simulated matches. The variables observed included the number of direct points, service speed, accuracy, rally length, and number of double faults. The results of the independent t-test analysis showed that the flat serve group scored a higher average direct points mean, 9.2; SD = 2.15, than the spin serve group mean, 6.8; SD 1.69, with a t-value = 2.74; p = 0.013. Supporting analysis also showed that the flat serve had higher speed, while the spin serve was superior in accuracy and rally duration. These findings indicate that the flat serve is more effective for a fast point scoring strategy, while the spin serve is more suitable for long rallies and game control. Therefore, coaches are advised to integrate service variation training as part of the development of athletes’ playing strategies.

Abstract

Background: Football is a highly popular sport worldwide, including in Indonesia. In football matches, referees play a crucial role that significantly determines the course of the game and its final outcome. However, this role often leads to pressure that can trigger anxiety due to physical, mental, and emotional demands from various parties such as players, coaches, and spectators. This study aims to analyze the level of anxiety experienced by Indonesian football referees when officiating professional matches. Methods: This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with surveys as the data collection method. The research sample consists of 21 professional football referees in Indonesia, aged 25-40 years, with 1-18 years of experience. The research instrument used is the Football Referee Anxiety Scale (FRAS) questionnaire, covering four dimensions of anxiety: cognitive, affective, somatic, and motoric. Results: The study results show that the majority of referees have a low level of anxiety, with an average score of 67.19. A total of 52.4% of referees have low anxiety, while 33.3% fall into the high category. The most prominent aspects of anxiety are cognitive and affective dimensions, where several referees experience difficulties in decision-making and emotional burdens Conclusions: The level of anxiety among Indonesian football referees when officiating professional matches varies. Most referees have a low level of anxiety. The most frequently affected aspects of anxiety include the cognitive and affective dimensions, which involve feelings of worry, difficulty concentrating, and emotional burdens. Keywords: anxiety; referee anxiety; football referee

Abstract

Low learning motivation in physical education limits active participation, perseverance, and the achievement of learning objectives. This study examines whether the small-sided games (SSG) approach can improve these conditions through a quantitative pretest–posttest control group experimental design. The population consisted of all fourth-grade students at Petemon State Elementary School in Surabaya (N=109), with a sample of 54 students selected through cluster random sampling (27 experimental; 27 control). Motivation was measured using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire containing 25 statements that were proven to be valid (r=0.619) and reliable (r=0.801), so that changes in scores could be more reliably interpreted as changes in motivation rather than measurement error. The SSG treatment was given in 4 sessions, then the data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially (Shapiro–Wilk; paired sample t-test; α=0.05). The results showed that the experimental group increased from 78.59 to 85.29 and was significant (0.000), while the control group increased less from 76.62 to 79.44. This pattern reinforces that SSG is effective in increasing motivation, possibly because the activities are more interesting, enjoyable, and encourage active involvement, making it relevant as an adaptive and student-centered PJOK strategy.
