Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of imagery training (group 1), kinesthetic perception training (group 2), and control training (group 3) on improving zero-step lay-ups and free-throws. The method used in this research is an experiment with a quantitative approach with a research design using Match Subject Ordinal Pairing. The design in this study used 24 samples divided into 3 groups given different treatments. this study uses measurements of zero-step lay-up and free-throw. The results of this study indicate that the zero-step lay-up of group 1 has an average pre-test result of 76.75 the post-test results which are with an average result of 110.87, and free-throw group 1 with an average pre-test result of 36.62 for post-test with an average result of 71.25. With the conclusion that the zero-step lay-up increased by 44% and free-throw by 95%, from the pre-test and post-test results. The results of group 2 for zero-step lay-up training are with an average pre-test of 66.75 then for post-test results of 100.12, and for free-throw group 2 with an average of 44.62 then for post-test with an average of 72.5. The results of group 3 for zero-step lay-up training are with an average pre-test of 63.62 then for post-test results of 81.37, and for free-throw group 3 with an average of 38.62 then for post-test with an average of 60.12. With the conclusion that the zero-step lay-up increased by 28% and free-throw increased by 56% from the pre-test and post-test results. The control group did experience an increase because they continued to practice as usual without any treatment like groups 1 and 2, but the increase was still below that of the treatment group. Thus it can be concluded that imagery training and kinesthetic perception training can be used to improve the ability of zero-step lay-up and free-throw.

Abstract

Mindset and mental toughness are two crucial factors that affect the performance of basketball athletes under the age of 18. A positive mindset, such as a growth mindset, encourages young athletes to continue learning, overcome failures, and improve their skills. Meanwhile, mental toughness allows them to stay focused, manage pressure, and face challenges and failures with high resilience. The purpose of this study is to discuss the concept of mindset and mental toughness in the context of basketball athletes under 18 years old. This discussion will also explain how these two elements affect the performance of young athletes and how coaches and the environment can play a role in the development of both. This study uses a qualitative approach with a conceptual study design. This type of research aims to understand the phenomenon that occurs through a deep understanding of the experiences and perspectives of young basketball athletes in developing a mindset and mental toughness. This approach focuses more on descriptive data collection and text analysis or in-depth interviews than quantitative measurement. Mindset and mental toughness are two psychological elements that greatly affect the performance of basketball athletes under the age of 18. Having a positive mindset (growth mindset) and tested mental toughness can help young athletes overcome various obstacles and pressures, both in training and matches. Therefore, coaches, families, and the surrounding environment need to provide positive support and appropriate coaching to develop both aspects. That way, young athletes not only develop in technical aspects but also in mental readiness to face even greater sporting challenges in the future.

Abstract

This This study aims to examine the psychological challenges experienced by gymnasts in Gresik City who are preparing to participate in the 9th East Java Porprov competition, with a special focus on anxiety, depression, stress, and their relationship to emotional eating behavior. The sample consisted of 15 gymnasts, including 2 male gymnasts and 13 female gymnasts, recruited from the Gresik City Gymnastics Training Center. Data were collected using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-42) and the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ). The statistical test used in this study was the Shapirow-Wilk test to determine the normality of the data. The Pearson correlation test was used to determine the relationship between depression, anxiety and stress with emotional eating. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between anxiety and stress in gymnasts. This may be due to the psychological burden experienced by athletes during the run-up to the competition. However, the results of the relationship between emotional eating and anxiety and stress did not show a significant relationship. These results indicate that emotional eating is not an intervention carried out by gymnasts when they experience anxiety and stress. This study concludes that it is very important to use appropriate interventions when athletes experience psychological stress. Athletes really need a support system that can provide them with mental well-being. Further research is expected to explore more about the long-term impacts and the use of larger and more diverse samples

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the relationship between physical activity and mood stress during the month of Ramadan. A total of 26 college students participated in this study a trial physical activity during Ramadan. Physical activity profiles were measured using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and mood profiles using the Profile of Mood States (POMS) in the first and fourth weeks of Ramadan. The results of the analysis showed that sports students tended to maintain a constant level of physical activity throughout the month of Ramadan, absence of significant differences in high-intensity physical activity (vigorous) and moderate between the first and fourth weeks. Although low-intensity physical activity decreased, this change was not significant. In the measurement of POMS components, there was a decrease in the dimensions of depression (DEP), fatigue (FAT), confusion (CON), and vigor (VIG), while the dimensions of tension (TEN) and anger (ANG) increased. In addition, no relationship was found between the IPAQ and POMS profiles in the fourth week, except for the relationship between low-intensity physical activity and Total Mood Disturbance (TMD) scores, which showed a significant positive correlation (r = 0.420, p = 0.033). conclusion, although physical activity tends to be stable during the month of Ramadan, a decrease in low-intensity activity can affect mood stress, indicating the need for managing exercise intensity to maintain psychological well-being. The implications of this study are important for fasting individuals to understand the impact of physical exercise on mental health and consider the appropriate exercise intensity during fasting.
