Abstract

Greywater from households and public facilities represents a major source of untreated wastewater, carrying high microbial loads and variable chemical composition that threaten environmental and public health. Conventional treatment systems often lack adaptive control mechanisms capable of handling the dynamic fluctuations of greywater quality. This study presents the design and validation of an intelligent greywater treatment system that integrates real–time sensing with a Sugeno fuzzy logic controller to regulate pump and solenoid valve operation. The system continuously monitors pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), dissolved oxygen (DO), and ammonia (NH3), and dynamically adjusts treatment cycles based on sensor feedback. Experimental deployment demonstrated significant improvements in effluent quality, with pH reduced from 9.04 to 8.08, TDS from 611.04 ppm to 393.96 ppm, and NH₃ from 0.52 ppm to 0.19 ppm, while DO increase from 2.52 mg/L to 6.07 mg/L. These results confirm that fuzzy logic–based control enhances system responsiveness and ensures effluent compliance under variable influent conditions. The proposed framework provides a scalable, cost-effective solution for decentralized wastewater management, advancing the development of intelligent treatment technologies for sustainable urban water systems.

Abstract

Data from the Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI) show that the prevalence of stunting in Banjar Regency increased from 17.68% (2021) to 26.4% (2022), and further rose to 30.6% (2023). Limited access to safe drinking water and food increases the risk of stunting through infectious diseases that disrupt nutrient absorption. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between water quality, food hygiene, and stunting among children under five in Banjar Regency. This research used case control study design. The case and control groups each received 30 samples. Independent variables included the source and quality of clean water (physical, chemical, microbiological), the source and quality of drinking water, drinking water management, and food hygiene practices (processing, serving, storage). Data were collected through household water sampling tested for physical (turbidity), chemical (pH, Fe), and microbiological (E. coli) parameters, as well as questionnaires and structured interviews with parents or caregivers. Data analysis was conducted using binary and multivariate logistic regression tests. The results showed that clean water sources, drinking water sources, microbiological quality of drinking water, drinking water management, and food management were significantly associated with stunting (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis identified drinking water sources and food management as the primary determinants, jointly accounting for 18.4% of stunting occurrence. These findings underscore that stunting prevention interventions should be prioritized toward improving the safety of household drinking water and strengthening food hygiene practices.

Abstract

The enactment of Act 11/2020 on Job Creation in October 2020, resulted in several changes in laws and regulations. One of the crucial articles that were abolished by the Job Creation Act was Article 93 of the Environmental Act (UUPPLH) which regulates rights to file a lawsuit at the Administrative Court, this is contrary to the private law. Also based on Article 2 of the Environmental Act states that environmental protection and management is carried out based on the principle of Participation. This research focuses on the impacts of eliminating Article 93 of the Environmental Act by the Job Creation Act specifically on the principle of Participation. The method used in this research is normative legal research conducted with qualitative analysis. The result is that the elimination of Article 93 of the Environmental Act by Article 21 and Article 22 of the Job Creation Act is contrary to the Participatory Principle contained in Article 2 letter k and Article 70 of the UUPPLH. The abolition of Article 93 of the UUPPLH also causes the judicial power to be unable to exercise the principle of checks and balances.

Abstract

Monkey Pox is a disease caused by a virus with the genus orthopoxvirus that can infect humans. The initial symptoms of this disease are the appearance of lumps due to swollen lymph nodes, muscle pain, fever, feeling tired and weak. Although similar to Chickenpox, Monkey Pox is clinically difficult to distinguish from other smallpox diseases. This study aims to classify Monkey Pox disease using the "Monkey-Pox PATIENTS Dataset". Classification of Monkey Pox disease is done using Random Forest and Naïve Bayes methods. Random Forest produces higher accuracy than Naïve Bayes in classifying Monkey Pox disease, which is 69.24% with a k-fold value of 5 and the number of trees 64 using an unbalanced dataset with 6 attributes. While Naïve Bayes produces an accuracy of 68.56% using a dataset without balancing with 8 attributes (k-fold=5, kernel=Gaussian) and 9 attributes (k-fold=3 and 10, kernel=Gaussian).

Abstract

Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) leaves possess diverse pharmacological properties with promising development potential, particularly as antibiofilm and antioxidant agents. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial, antibiofilm, and antioxidant activities of E. guineensis leaf extract. The leaves were macerated in acetone for five days. Antibacterial activity was determined using the disc diffusion method against four bacterial species: Staphylococcus aureus, Propionibacterium acnes, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The extract exhibited moderate antibacterial activity, with the highest inhibition observed against P. acnes (6.79 mm at 25%). Antibiofilm activity was evaluated using a microdilution method, showing concentration-dependent inhibition, with the highest activity at 1% concentration, reaching 83.90% (mid-phase, S. aureus) and 71.28% (E. coli). Antioxidant activity was assessed using DPPH, FRAP, and ABTS assays, yielding IC50 values of 99.19 ppm, 119.12 ppm, and 123.37 ppm, respectively, indicating moderate antioxidant capacity (IC50 > 50-150 ppm). Overall, E. guineensis leaf extract demonstrates moderate antibacterial, antibiofilm, and antioxidant activities, suggesting its potential as a preliminary candidate for further pharmacological investigation.

Abstract

Introduction: Dengue fever is a climate-sensitive vector-borne disease. While many studies have documented associations between climate variables and dengue incidence, most rely on conventional regression approaches that fail to separate direct and indirect climatic pathways, limiting mechanistic understanding and utility for environmental health. This study aims to elucidate the interconnected effects of climatic variability on dengue incidence in Surabaya. This study integrates seasonal time-series decomposition and path analysis to distinguish direct and indirect climatic pathways, sunlight duration and wind speed. Methods: A retrospective ecological design, monthly dengue incidence data from 2020 to 2024 were integrated with meteorological variables, including rainfall, temperature, humidity, sunlight duration, and wind speed. Seasonal time-series decomposition was applied to characterize temporal dynamics, followed by path analysis within a structural equation modeling framework to quantify direct and indirect climatic effects. Results and Discussion: A pronounced seasonal pattern in dengue incidence, with peaks during the rainy season. Maximum temperature, relative humidity, sunlight duration, and minimum wind speed exerted significant direct effects on dengue incidence (p < 0.05). Rainfall showed no direct association but acted as a key upstream driver influencing other climatic variables. The structural model explained 52.1% of the variance in dengue incidence, highlighting the contribution of interconnected climatic processes. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that dengue dynamics in tropical metropolitan environments are governed by complex climate-mediated pathways rather than isolated climatic predictors. This study novel environmental epidemiological evidence to support climate-informed dengue early warning systems and adaptive vector control strategies under climate variability and urban environmental change.
