Abstract

Alternative energy learning in schools requires instructional materials that can connect scientific concepts with real-world problem solving. However, current learning practices are still often dominated by theoretical explanations, textbook-based instruction, and limited project-oriented activities. This study aimed to analyze physics teachers’ needs for developing STEM-PjBL-based student worksheets to support students’ Creative Problem Solving (CPS) in alternative energy learning. This study employed a descriptive survey method involving 27 physics teachers in Lampung Province. Data were collected using a teacher needs questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the teacher needs questionnaire was categorized as very valid, with an average validity percentage of 80.54%. In alternative energy learning, Problem Based Learning was the most frequently used learning model, while Project Based Learning was used by only 33.3% of teachers. Student worksheets and learning videos were the most commonly used learning resources, each used by 85.2% of teachers, while printed books were still used by 63.0% of teachers. Although 85.2% of teachers had used student worksheets and 59.3% had developed their own worksheets, only 48.1% reported using worksheets integrated with STEM-PjBL. Furthermore, 96.3% of teachers stated that they needed student worksheets designed to support students’ Creative Problem Solving. These findings indicate a gap between the availability of student worksheets and their integration with structured STEM-PjBL and CPS-oriented learning activities. Therefore, the development of STEM-PjBL-based student worksheets is needed to support more contextual, project-based, and problem-solving-oriented alternative energy learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate a Project-Based Learning integrated with STEM (PjBL-STEM) learning program oriented toward deep learning principles—encompassing mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning—within the IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) subject for tenth-grade vocational high school students. Motivated by the persistent gap between conventional instructional practice and the competency demands of Industry 4.0, the study developed a structured instructional package consisting of a Deep Learning Lesson Plan (Perencanaan Pembelajaran Mendalam/PPM), student worksheets (LKPD), and supporting handouts, all anchored in the PjBL-STEM framework applied to electromagnetic induction as a sustainable energy technology context. The research employed a mixed-method approach guided by the four-stage 4D instructional development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The study involved two classes of tenth-grade students enrolled in the Electrical Power Installation Engineering program (X TITL-1 as experimental group; X TITL-2 as control group) at a public vocational high school in Bandar Lampung during the 2025/2026 academic year. Expert validation by three specialists yielded an overall validity score of 91.9% for the lesson plan and 91.5% for the student worksheets and handouts, both classified as highly valid. Teacher practicality evaluation indicated an overall score of 90.7%, categorized as excellent. Effectiveness analysis using the normalized gain (N-Gain) index revealed that the experimental group achieved a mean N-Gain of 0.90 (high category) for performance skills and 1.00 (high category) for creativity, compared with 0.30 and 0.45, respectively, for the control group receiving conventional instruction. These findings establish that integrating PjBL-STEM with deep learning principles produces a valid, practical, and effective instructional framework capable of significantly enhancing vocational students' creativity and practical performance competencies relevant to contemporary technological challenges.

Abstract

Low science literacy among Indonesian students, as evidenced by international assessments like PISA, underscores the urgent need to enhance their ability to connect scientific knowledge with societal issues. This challenge is exacerbated by a shortage of assessment tools that integrate scientific concepts with real-world phenomena, limiting students’ capacity to apply science in addressing social problems. This study aimed to develop a socioscientific issues (SSI)-based science literacy assessment tool targeting junior high school students on the topics of heat, thermal expansion, and temperature. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach following the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate), the study began with a needs analysis involving 15 teachers and 200 students across nine schools in Lampung Province. Guided by these findings, an SSI-based assessment instrument was designed and subjected to expert validation of content, construct, and language. The tool was then pilot-tested on 25 seventh-grade students at MTs N 3 South Lampung. Pre- and post-test evaluations revealed a significant increase in science literacy scores, from an average of 42.79 to 79.42. N-gain analysis indicated moderate improvement (0.64), while Cohen’s d demonstrated a large effect size (2.70), confirming the tool’s efficacy. The study concludes that the SSI-based assessment effectively enhances students’ conceptual understanding and their ability to relate scientific principles to real-world contexts. It further recommends extending the tool’s application to other science topics and diverse educational settings.

Abstract

This study analyzes the transformation of vocational education financing governance through performance-based and BLUD-based hybrid financing in Lampung Province. Using a descriptive qualitative design with a multisite case study approach, this study examined three vocational institutions with different governance characteristics: non-BLUD, developing BLUD, and large-scale BLUD schools. Data were collected through policy documents, school financial planning documents, institutional profiles, and relevant secondary data, and were analyzed using an interactive qualitative analysis model. The findings show that conventional financing remains highly dependent on government allocations and community contributions, creating fiscal vulnerability after the abolition of school committee fees. BLUD status strengthens financial autonomy by enabling schools to retain and reinvest revenue generated through Teaching Factory activities, industry partnerships, and production-based learning units. However, the effectiveness of this model depends on entrepreneurial leadership, performance-based budgeting, industrial collaboration, and digital accountability through ARKAS and SIPLah. This study implies that regional governments should accelerate BLUD readiness, strengthen vocational school financial management capacity, and develop hybrid financing policies that maintain a balance between institutional revenue generation, educational equity, and graduate quality improvement.

Abstract

Renewable energy learning in science education requires contextual teaching materials that connect scientific concepts with local environmental issues and future-oriented skills. However, current classroom practices still face limitations in integrating project-based learning, socio-scientific issues, and entrepreneurial-oriented activities into structured learning resources. This study aimed to analyze the needs for developing a STEM-PjBL-SSI-based electronic student worksheet (e-LKPD) on renewable energy using oil palm empty fruit bunch waste as a local biomass context. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed through a survey involving 29 science teacher respondents. The data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed descriptively using percentages. The results showed that Problem-Based Learning was the most frequently used learning model, applied by 51.7% of respondents, followed by Project-Based Learning at 37.9%, Discovery Learning at 27.6%, and Inquiry-Based Learning at 10.3%. The most commonly used teaching methods were discussion at 62.1% and experiment at 58.6%, while lectures were still used by 34.5% of respondents. In terms of learning resources, teachers mostly used learning videos at 72.4%, the internet at 65.5%, reference books at 55.2%, modules at 48.3%, and student worksheets at 44.8%. The findings also revealed that 62.1% of teachers were familiar with Socio-Scientific Issues, while misconceptions regarding renewable energy sources were still found among some respondents. Although 75.9% of teachers developed their own student worksheets, the existing worksheets had not systematically integrated STEM, project-based activities, socio-scientific issues, and entrepreneurial skill development. Therefore, the development of STEM-PjBL-SSI-based e-LKPD using oil palm empty fruit bunch waste as a renewable energy context is needed to support more contextual, interactive, and skill-oriented science learning.
