Abstract

Technology integration has become an important aspect of English language teaching, especially in private Islamic schools. Although novice teachers are familiar with technology, there is a gap between the potential of technology and its integration in achieving learning objectives and little intensity of previous studies discussing challenges faced by novice teachers’ technology integration in English language teaching in an Islamic private secondary school. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and identify challenges of technology integration by a novice teacher in grade 11 at an Islamic private secondary school in North Bali. It was a case study designed under a qualitative approach, combining semi-structured observations using the Triple-E framework rubric and structured interviews with a single novice teacher. The Triple-E framework showed a score of out 9 of 18 which means technology integration has a moderate level of effectiveness, showing a partial connection between learning objectives and technological tools. The semi-structured interview results exposed several challenges, including technological limitations, workload, school policies regarding mobile phone use, and low student participation. This study highlights the need for institutional support, strategic training, and more flexible policies to maximize the potential of technology in English language teaching. This study is expected to provide new insights into the effectiveness and challenges faced by novice teachers in integrating technology for English language teaching in an Islamic private school context.

Abstract

Inclusive education seeks to ensure equal learning opportunities for all students, including those with special needs, yet teaching English in inclusive classrooms presents specific pedagogical challenges. This study investigates the supporting and inhibiting factors in English teaching at SD N 2 Bengkala, North Bali, a school that integrates students with hearing impairments into regular classrooms. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations and in-depth interviews with the English teacher. The findings indicate that effective English instruction in this inclusive setting is supported by teacher adaptability, the use of visual media and concrete learning materials, assistance from special needs support teachers, peer support from regular students, and a positive classroom climate. However, several challenges persist, including communication barriers with deaf students, differences in learning abilities, emotional fluctuations, and environmental distractions. More complex English skills, such as listening, speaking, and writing, were found to be more difficult to teach than vocabulary. Overall, the study underscores the importance of adaptive teaching strategies and collaborative support in addressing learner diversity, while also highlighting ongoing challenges that require continuous adjustment to achieve inclusive English learning.

Abstract

This study presents a systematic literature review of recent research on the impact of integrated instructional approaches in strengthening critical thinking skills among prospective science teachers. Through an in-depth analysis of selected publications, the findings indicate that reflective learning strategies such as explicit rubric-based simulations, argument mapping, journaling, project-based learning, and the integration of socio-scientific contexts consistently enhance the cognitive, metacognitive, and affective dimensions of critical thinking. The review further demonstrates that emotional engagement and metacognitive awareness function as essential conditions for the effectiveness of reflective instruction. In addition, embedding local cultural contexts is shown to increase the relevance and meaningfulness of science learning. From a practical perspective, these findings imply that teacher education programs should systematically integrate reflective instructional designs, formative assessment rubrics, and culturally responsive learning tasks into their curricula. Moreover, institutions are encouraged to strengthen lecturer professional development, improve digital learning infrastructure, and adopt flexible curriculum policies to address implementation challenges such as institutional resistance and variability in student engagement. Collectively, these implications support the development of adaptive, inclusive, and context-sensitive science teacher education aligned with the demands of 21st-century learning.

Abstract

This research analyzed the correlation of AI literacy and writing of senior high students in Harapan Senior High School on South Denpasar, Bali. This research analyzed the correlation and the strength level of relationship between AI literacy and writing skills. The correlational study design had been utilized as the research design. This study utilized the purposive sampling technique and found out from 227 senior high school students with 151 participated in this study. The data collection used in this study was survey questionnaires, which had 22 questions in total. This research found out that there was a positive and significant correlation between AI literacy and writing skill of the students (Sig. 2-tailed result < 0.05). Also, this study found out that the strength level of relationship between AI literacy and writing skill reached Moderate Positive relationship (Pearson correlation coefficient (r) 0.366, and the p-value 0.001 < 0.05). The results showed that as the students’ AI literacy got better, their writing skill also improved together. Since the positive and significant correlation between AI literacy and writing skill, means the students’ writing skill development could also be improved along with their AI literacy since they correlated each other. This research also suggested the need of AI literacy improvement towards the students when the AI tools were implemented into the English learning process, and further research about the other English language skill fields that relates with the AI literacy. That way, the finding of this study suggested the empirical implications towards the teachers that the implementation and improvement of AI tools into English learning process had to be focused on the students’ AI literacy as well. It could lead to students’ comprehension towards the AI tools itself since they had understood the basic literacy of AI.

Abstract

Basic literacy skills, including reading, writing, and arithmetic, are the main foundation for the learning success of primary school students. However, after the Covid-19 pandemic, some students in Indonesia, including those in Kupang City, still experience difficulties in mastering basic literacy due to learning loss. This study aims to analyse basic literacy clinical assistance strategies through the Lopo Pintar Programme as a community-based intervention model in supporting the recovery of primary school students' literacy skills. The research method used is a narrative literature review by examining scientific articles, education policy reports, and relevant local government programme documents. The results of the study show that contextual, intensive, and collaborative clinical literacy assistance has proven effective in improving the reading and writing skills of primary school students. The involvement of teacher training students as learning assistants also plays an important role in creating an adaptive, interactive, and meaningful learning process for students. These findings confirm that community-based literacy interventions are a relevant and sustainable strategy for accelerating the recovery of students' basic literacy skills after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how the use of flashcards can improve the English vocabulary skills of sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Bengkala. This study used a classroom action research (CAR) design that combines qualitative and quantitative methods. The subjects of the study consisted of two deaf students in sixth grade, while the object of the study was the use of flashcards in English learning. Data were collected through tests and observation checklists. The tests were used to measure students' vocabulary mastery, while the observation checklists were used to assess the increase in students' interest and attention during the learning process. The test results were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistics, while the qualitative data were analyzed using an interactive data analysis model. The results showed an increase in the English vocabulary mastery of deaf students with the use of flashcards. Based on the test results, the average post-test score in the first cycle was 65, which then increased in the second cycle to 87.5. This increase indicates that flashcards are effective in helping deaf students master English vocabulary. The observation results also supported these quantitative findings. In each cycle, deaf students increasingly showed greater interest and attention during the teaching and learning process. This improvement is due to the use of engaging images and games that create a more enjoyable classroom atmosphere. This improvement can also be attributed to more active interaction between students and teachers, which makes students feel more motivated to learn. Thus, the use of flashcards has been proven to improve deaf students' English vocabulary mastery and increase their interest and attention in learning. This research provides an important contribution to the development of more inclusive and enjoyable learning methods for deaf students and can serve as a reference for educators in designing effective and engaging learning.

Abstract

The study explored the potential of ChatGPT as a learning tool in English language education, focusing on both students’ and lecturers’ readiness and satisfaction. While both groups demonstrated a positive outlook toward the integration of ChatGPT into their learning processes, the research highlighted various nuances in how each group interacted with the technology. Students showed a high degree of readiness in using ChatGPT for basic tasks such as accessing information and enhancing their motivation for learning. However, their readiness for self-directed learning and goal-setting was notably lower, indicating a need for further development in utilizing ChatGPT for more autonomous and personalized learning experiences. This suggests that while ChatGPT can be a useful tool for structured learning, its role in fostering independent learning skills needs to be strengthened. On the other hand, lecturers expressed strong confidence in using ChatGPT for academic purposes, especially in terms of facilitating administrative tasks, grading, and providing additional learning resources. However, they voiced concerns about the potential overreliance on technology, which could hinder the development of critical thinking skills in students. The lecturers stressed the importance of integrating ChatGPT as a supplementary tool, rather than replacing traditional teaching methods that foster deep learning and personal engagement. Thematic analysis of the responses also pointed out that while ChatGPT was appreciated for improving focus and accessibility, it raised concerns about the loss of human interaction in the learning process. Students and lecturers both acknowledged the value of human mentorship, emotional support, and personalized guidance, which ChatGPT could not fully replicate. Therefore, while ChatGPT holds promise for enhancing learning, its integration should be approached with a balanced consideration of technological advantages and the irreplaceable role of human involvement in education.

Abstract

This study addresses the limited comprehensive understanding of emotional intelligence (EI) in educational settings. It aims to systematically review literature on the relationship between EI, academic achievement, and student well-being. A systematic literature review was conducted using predefined criteria, incorporating 2020–2025 studies indexed in Google Scholar and analyzed using Harzing's Publish or Perish and VOSviewer. Meta-analysis results reveal a significant positive correlation between EI and both academic performance and psychological well-being. Students with high EI demonstrate greater emotional regulation, self-esteem, and resilience. Moreover, positive teacher-student relationships and supportive learning environments amplify these effects. Despite the findings, limitations such as reliance on self-report data and underexplored cultural factors persist. Future research should implement longitudinal and diverse methodological approaches to deepen the understanding of EI's impact on holistic student development.

Abstract

This study aims to identify, analyze, and synthesize key findings regarding the implementation of technology-based biology learning in Indonesia. This study is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA model, which includes the stages of identification, screening, eligibility, and inclusion. The data search process utilized search engines and databases such as Google Search, Google Scholar, ResearchGate, SINTA, and Scopus, using keywords related to technology in Biology education. Inclusion criteria for article selection included publications from 2020–2025, experimental articles in English, indexed in SINTA (S1–S2) and Scopus (Q1–Q4), accessible, tested in Indonesia, written by authors from Biology education programs, and thematically relevant. Data analysis was conducted descriptively to identify trends in technology-based Biology learning and to highlight contributions and important information regarding the use of ICT in Biology education in Indonesia. The trend in scientific publications on ICT in Biology education shows positive development with a total of 11 publications between 2020–2025. However, most articles are still indexed in Scopus Q3 and Q4 journals, as well as Sinta 1 and 2. The absence of publications in Scopus Q1 and Q2 journals indicates the challenges faced by Indonesian researchers, such as high writing standards, strict review processes, and a lack of understanding of publication ethics and scientific writing techniques. The use of technology in biology education in Indonesia includes tools such as Lectora Inspire, audio, video, e-books, Zoom, Learning Management Systems (LMS), Digital Mind Maps (DMM), Augmented Reality (AR), Prezi, web-based resources, digital posters, and virtual labs (Gizmos).
