Abstract

Abstract

The Subdistrict of Depok, with the largest population in Sleman Regency, is a region that drives economic, social, and cultural development. This growth further increases the risk of earthquakes, given the presence of the active Opak and Dengkeng Faults. Therefore, an earthquake hazard analysis using the worst-case scenario from the Opak and Dengkeng Faults is necessary for disaster mitigation efforts. This study aims to model deterministic earthquake hazards based on microtremor data using the worst-case scenario from the Opak and Dengkeng Faults. A geophysical approach is employed in this research by applying the Horizontal-to-Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) method based on microtremor measurements. The HVSR method characterizes local site effects that influence ground shaking during an earthquake. The earthquake hazard analysis at the ground surface is conducted using the Deterministic Seismic Hazard Analysis (DSHA) method, considering local site effects based on microtremor measurement data. The DSHA results indicate high Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) values, primarily due to the influence of the Opak and Dengkeng Faults, which suggest a significant risk of damage. The findings of this study can serve as input for spatial planning and disaster risk reduction management, particularly in Depok District, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta.

Abstract

The dyeing process in the batik-making process uses many dyes containing various substances that can be harmful pollutants for humans and other biota. However, various organisms can reduce pollution's effects with the principle of remediation, especially those carried out by several plants. One type of plant that has the potential as a bioremediator is the kiambang plant (Salvinia molesta). This study aimed to determine the effect of kiambang (Salvinia molesta) in reducing batik dye waste pollutants as a learning resource for environmental pollution. This study was an experimental study, with the method used being descriptive analysis. Two treatments were used: the treatment of different kiambang weights in the same waste concentration and the treatment of the same kiambang weight in different liquid waste concentrations. The study was conducted at the Botany Laboratory of the Department of Biology Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Siliwangi University, for six months. The tools used in this study included a 40-liter incubation container, a balance, a measuring cup, a thermometer, and a pH meter. Meanwhile, the materials used in this study were batik liquid waste from batik artisans in the Cigeureung Village, Tasikmalaya City, and the Kiambang plant. Data collection was carried out by observing the growth of kiambang in 4 observations within 10 days. Data analysis was carried out based on the physical and chemical properties of wastewater, with various indicators such as acidity/pH, total suspended solids, BOD, COD, phenol content, total chromium content, total ammonium content, sulfide content, cadmium, mercury, and nickel. Chemical analysis was carried out at PT. Sucofindo (Persero) is located at Jalan Soekarno Hatta No. 217, Bandung. Based on the analysis and testing of various indicators, it is known that the kiambang plant can reduce various chemical pollutant contents in wastewater in both treatments. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the kiambang plant can reduce pollutants in batik dyeing wastewater samples at the Cigeureung Batik Center, Cipedes District, Tasikmalaya City.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of seawater moisture content on the resistivity of unconsolidated sand in the coastal region of Yogyakarta. Laboratory experiments were conducted using a standard ASTM G-57 soil box with samples prepared at varying percentages of seawater moisture content. The results indicate that increasing seawater content in the sediment medium leads to an exponential decrease in resistivity. A mathematical relationship was established in the form of a power function: R=1145.7MC?2.23. Resistivity values tend to stabilize when the moisture content exceeds 13%. A resistivity range of 0.8–2.8 ??m is proposed as a cut-off for identifying seawater intrusion in coastal areas. These findings provide an important contribution to the development of geoelectrical methods for monitoring seawater intrusion and evaluating groundwater quality in coastal regions, which can serve as a basis for sustainable water resource management.

Abstract

Abstract

The need of flexible and affordable geoelectric data acquisition systems is growing, particularly for research and educational purposes. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of a resistance measurement system based on the ADS1256 high-precision ADC module on a laboratory scale. Initial testing was conducted on a laboratory scale using various resistance values. The best accuracy was found in the medium to high resistance range R1 (subsurface target) (>10 Ω); at low resistance, the accuracy value decreased dramatically. A relative error (ε) reading of - 6.7% occured at low values of R1. The condition of the resistance R2 (surface) affected the stability of the ADS 1256 system reading. Based on the standard deviation value there was an indication of nonlinearity in the readings, particularly in the voltage readings. The current measurements produced relatively stable readings. There was an increase in the fluctuation of readings, especially at low surface medium (R2). Overall, the ADS1256 system demonstrated promising potential as a low-cost alternative for resistance measurement, particularly effective in the medium to high resistance range. Comprehensive data across all R1 and R2 variations require additional calibration and enhanced circuit stability to better align with reference values

Abstract

The development of AI technology has enabled machines to carry out tasks that previously could only be done by humans. Scientists of AI have recently launched a tool called ChatGPT. It is a tool that can do whatever is ordered by humans, including making academic writing like an abstract. Thus, this study aimed to compare thematic choice and thematic progression on the text of research abstracts of undergraduate students of Teacher College and those by ChatGPT (AI machine). To analyze the data, this study employed the thematic structure of Systemic Functional Linguistics developed by Halliday Matthiessen and thematic progression developed by Bloor Bloor. The thematic choice was analyzed by observing the variety of themes appearing in the two texts, as well as the level of complexity and diversity used. Thematic progression was evaluated by examining how the themes are arranged and developed along with the development of the texts. The results of this study show that AI machine has reached a level of proficiency allowing AI to rival humans. Even though there are fundamental differences in thematic progression patterns between texts written by undergraduate students and ChatGPT, this study concludes that the two are not significantly different. Therefore, the researchers suggest that further research in a similar field may explore issues such as quality, creativity, and originality. Afterwards, this study also suggests that English teachers use this thematic structuring knowledge and skills to improve students’ writing skill. This study provides valuable insight into the capabilities and limitations of AI machine in imitating the human creative process of writing.
