Abstract

Esterogens are known to induce significant changes in the coagulation system that can cause thromboembolic events such as stroke. While in some studies, progesterone-only contraception, the impact on cardiovascular disease has not been clearly explained. This study aims to determine the description of hormonal contraceptive users in ischemic stroke patients at Dr. Soetomo Surabaya. Method : Observational descriptive study. In addition, researcher applied consecutive sampling in this study. Research variables included age, occupation, disease history, type and duration of hormonal contraceptive use, as well as the distance to stop using hormonal contraception until the occurrence of stroke. Univariate or descriptive analysis is applied to perceive the representation and frequency distribution of variables. Result : The highest age group of 40% was obtained from the early elderly (46 - 55 years), as many as 42% of respondents worked as housewives. In the amount of 40% respondents had suffered from hypertension and also 50% had a history of hypertensive hereditary disease. 54% of respondents used hormonal contraception in ≥5 years with the most types of hormonal contraception were injections of progesterone-only, which is 42%. Abstract

Smoking remains as a nation-wide health problem in Indonesia. Several measures had been conducted to motivate smoking cessation, among those is the use of pictorial health warnings (PHWs). PHWs have been implemented since 2014, and some of the pictures were revised in 2018. However, there was no evaluation regarding the effectivity to this date. This study compared the effectivity of the old and new versions of PHWs in promoting smoking cessation. This was a cross-sectional study conducted in one of the sub-districts in East Java, Indonesia, in February 2020. Study population were local villagers aged at least 18 years who visited the sub-district’s primary healthcare during the study period. Consecutive sampling was used as the sampling method. Respondents were interviewed using a pre-determined questionnaire. The old and new versions of PHWs were printed and showed to the respondent during the interview. Comparison between groups was analyzed using McNemar test. A total of 103 respondents participated in this study. More respondents agreed that the old version of PHWs was considered more effective to motivate smoking cessation as compared to the newer version (71.84% vs 64.08%), although the significance was marginal (p=0.077). Our study showed that both versions of PHWs were considered effective to promote smoking cessation. However, more respondents agreed that the old version of PHWs were more effective than the new PHWs. We recommend policymaker to conduct a field study to test the effectivity of the proposed PHWs before revising the legal regulation in the future.

Height data was obtained by using microtoise, BMI using microtoise and scales, MUAC using tape measure plastic, and hemoglobin using the digital tool of Point of Care Testing (POCT) method. The research data were analyzed by chi square test with a contingency coefficient of 95%. Result: The results showed that out of 141 adolescent girls, 66.7% had normal height status, 23.4% were stunted, and 9.9% were severely stunted. In BMI status, 55.3% normal, 14.9% thinness, 15.6% overweight, and 14.2% obese. MUAC status was 79.4% with MUAC ≥ 23.5 cm and 20.6% with MUAC < 23.5 cm. Anemia status was 51.8% frail and 48.2% not anemic. After the chi square test, the significance value was obtained (p=0.006), which means that statistically there was a significant relationship between height and anemia, (p=0.003) there was a significant relationship between BMI and anemia, and (p=0.01) there was a significant relationship between MUAC and anemia.  Conclusion: There is a relationship between nutritional status based on height, BMI, and MUAC with anemia status in adolescent girls at Mambaus Sholihin Islamic Boarding School in Gresik Regency.
