Abstract

Sarcasm is a form of verbal bullying that often occurs unconsciously by the speaker. This study aims to examine the phenomenon of sarcasm-based verbal bullying in the school environment, focusing on degrading speech acts directed at junior high school (SMP) students in Surakarta, Indonesia. Through interviews with students who have been victims of sarcasm, this research analyzes the forms and impacts of sarcastic remarks they have experienced. The findings reveal that sarcasm is frequently used as a form of mockery or insult aimed at highlighting the victim’s shortcomings, whether in academic, physical, or social aspects. Each sarcastic utterance is analyzed using the theories of locution, illocution, and perlocution, showing that while the utterance may appear as a compliment on a literal level, it contextually demeans the victim. The perlocutionary effect includes feelings of shame, inferiority, and loss of self-confidence in the victim. These findings indicate that sarcasm as verbal bullying has the potential to damage students’ mental health and disrupt their social relationships. This study emphasizes the need for a school environment that supports positive communication, free from speech acts that have the potential to demean others.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the vulnerability of primary school teachers in rural areas in conducting authentic and integrative assessments of Indonesian language learning. This research approach is a case study. The participants were 50 primary school teachers grade 5 in rural areas. Data were obtained through questionnaires, teacher-made assessment instruments, and interviews. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results showed that most of the teachers did not understand the concept of authentic and integrative assessment in learning Indonesian. However, from an analysis of the assessment instrument he made, the teacher has applied the concept of authentic and integrative assessment because he copied from the teacher's book provided by the government. In practice, most teachers apply authentic and integrative assessment to receptive language skills (reading and listening), but only a small number apply them to productive skills (writing and speaking). The reason is insufficient time, the description of the score has ambiguous meaning, and the facilities at the school are not supportive. It is urgent to hold periodic training for teachers in rural areas to improve competence in assessing Indonesian subjects so that they no longer use the teacher's book as the only source of learning, including in assessment.

Abstract

This community service aims to provide training and mentoring to develop scenarios for implementing the literacy movement in schools for Indonesian language teachers at junior high schools in Karanganyar Regency. Partners in this activity are the Karanganyar Regency Education and Culture Office and the Indonesian Language Group (MGMP) in Karanganyar. Participants in this community service activity are limited to 30 Indonesian language junior high school teachers representing the Central Working Group in Karanganyar Regency. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a participatory approach. The implementation methods include expository, discussion, question and answer sessions, assignments, and guidance. The results of the program implementation show high teacher enthusiasm in participating in material presentation activities from resource persons and question and answer sessions. This is indicated by teacher attendance reaching 100 percent, teachers who submitted assignments at 90%, and teachers who were able to compile assignments well at 85%. In addition to developing scenarios for implementing the School Literacy Movement, teachers also mentioned obstacles faced in implementing GLS, including students' lack of interest and motivation to read, preferring to read short texts, lack of support from parents, and less attractive book collections in the library.

Abstract

Folktales about water sources in Klaten have not been widely accessed, causing values related to environmental conservation and water sustainability to be insufficiently conveyed. The purpose of this research is to inquire into the ecological knowledge contained in Klaten folktales about water sources and how they might be used to teach Indonesian language skills to junior high school students. This study takes an ethnographic approach to its qualitative descriptive methodology. Water sources and associated folktales were the focus of the research in six subdistricts of Klaten. Using purposive and snowball sampling approaches, data was collected from a variety of sources, including village leaders, cultural figures, local citizens, and relevant authorities. Triangulation of methods and sources was used to verify the data collected from in-depth interviews. An interactive model was used for data analysis. A number of ecological wisdom principles, including cosmic solidarity, concern for nature, environmental preservation, justice, and moral integrity, are included in the folktales, according to the research. The dominant ecological wisdom value is the principle of living simply and in harmony with nature, as manifested in the story of Roro Amis, who sailed on a banana trunk, and Prince Sidotopo, who played the traditional game nglarak blarak.

Abstract

Morphology learning in higher education is important to improve students' understanding in determining words and correct word formation. This study aims to describe the application of Project-based learning in morphology learning, material on morphological and morphophonemic processes in texts. The method used is descriptive qualitative which combines classroom observation methods and document analysis of learning outcomes. The research participants were 15 students from the Indonesian Language Education Study Program, Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya, class of 2024, selected through a purposive sampling method. The project type was to identify morphological and morphophonemic processes in texts. The assessment used was a scored process assessment with criteria. The results of the study indicate that student learning outcomes using Project-Based Learning (PjBL) are successful, this can be seen in the student's score. The use of Project-Based Learning is effective in this learning because students will contribute to each other in analyzing texts that undergo morphological and morphophonemic processes. Based on these findings, it can be suggested that the use of Project-Based Learning is effective but does not rule out the possibility of using more diverse, interactive, and fun methods. The results of this study provide an important contribution in improving learning outcomes using Project-Based Learning (PjBL).
