Abstract

A shift in dietary patterns towards fast-food consumption, including among university students, has the potential to impact health and lifestyle. This study aimed to analyze the factors that differentiate fast-food consumption behavior (frequent versus infrequent categories) among students of the Mathematics Education Study Program, academic year 2022-2024, at Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh. Using a quantitative descriptive approach with a survey method, data were collected through questionnaires from 59 respondents. Fisher's discriminant analysis was employed to classify consumption behavior. The findings reveal that the majority of students (35 out of 59) fell into the frequent consumption category, indicating a need for closer attention to the dietary patterns of this group. Based on the analysis of discriminant function coefficients, the most influential factors in differentiating consumption behavior were lifestyle, service quality, a varied menu, an affordable price, and a strategic location. The discriminant model demonstrated an accuracy of 81.4% on cross-validated cases, indicating an effective predictive capability. The implications of this research highlight an urgent need for nutritional education interventions and policies that support healthy eating patterns to curb the fast-food consumption trend among students and the wider community, considering the significant health risks associated with this behavior.

Abstract

Graphic design is a field that operates in various sectors such as advertising, media, global marketing, and entertainment. Graphic designers have a central role in creating artworks that are both aesthetically pleasing and effective in conveying messages to audiences. The purpose of this study is to classify graphic designer competencies into beginner, intermediate, and advanced categories. This research employs a quantitative descriptive approach. The population of this study is graphic designers in Banda Aceh. The research sample was determined using purposive sampling, with a minimum work experience of one year. Research data were collected through observation and tests. The data analyzed using discriminant analysis with the aid of SPSS. Discriminant analysis producted a discriminant fungction that was used to predict the competency level group of graphic designers more objectively based on influencing factors (variables) such as creativity, attention to detail, visual ability, and technical ability. Based on classification results using the discriminant function, it was determined that 33 designers were classified as beginners, 27 as intermediate, and 28 as advanced. The prediction accuracy of the discriminant function in classifying data correctly was 75%. The discriminant function can be effectively employed as a tool for selecting or evaluating the competencies of graphic designers.

Abstract

Logical mathematical intelligence and learning independence are two important aspects that can be crucial for students' learning success. This study aims to: (1) determine the relationship between logical mathematical intelligence and students' mathematics learning outcomes; (2) determine the relationship between learning independence and students' mathematics learning outcomes; (3) determine the relationship between logical mathematical intelligence and learning independence together with students' mathematics learning outcomes. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational research type. The population of this study were all X1 classes in SMA Negeri 4 Banda Aceh. The sample in this study were students of class XI-EB2, which were selected using simple random sampling technique. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires and tests. The data analysis technique uses simple correlation analysis, multiple correlation, t-test and F-test after the test conditions are met. The results showed that: (1) logical mathematical intelligence with students' mathematics learning outcomes has a positive and significant relationship of 30.04%; (2) learning independence with students' mathematics learning outcomes has a positive and significant relationship of 29.99%; and (3) logical mathematical intelligence and learning independence together have a positive and significant relationship with students' mathematics learning outcomes of 26.5%.

Abstract

The process of selecting a profession frequently poses a challenge for students transitioning into the workforce, including those in Marine Science. This decision necessitates careful consideration due to its direct correlation with their career trajectory and future prospects. This research aims to predict the professional preferences of Marine Science students towards careers as Conservation Experts, Environmental Impact Analysts, and Aquaculture Technicians, based on their academic course grades. This study employs a descriptive quantitative approach using literature research. The population of this research consists of Marine Science students from the 2020 cohort. A sample of 50 students was selected using simple random sampling techniques. Data were collected through documentation techniques, specifically student transcript records, and analyzed using Fisher's discriminant analysis with SPSS to formulate predictive functions. The results indicate that the formulated discriminant functions can accurately predict professional preferences based on course grades, achieving an accuracy rate of 88%. This high accuracy rate suggests that the derived discriminant function model has the potential to serve as a valuable tool for Marine Science students in making informed career decisions that align with their academic abilities, thereby minimizing uncertainty in determining suitable career paths.
