Abstract

Reading material development becomes one of the challenges in EFL reading class. Most of educators choose to adopt the existing learning materials due to the capacity and time constraints in the material development. This study aims to develop critical literacy-based instructional reading materials used to teach EFL reading classes. This study adopted the research design proposed by Plomp and Nieveen (2010); preliminary phase, prototyping phase, and evaluation phase. There are two types of data in this study; quantitative and qualitative data. Furthermore, the quantitative data were obtained from a questionnaire and reading test. Meanwhile, the qualitative data were collected from interviews and class observation. The study was conducted in English Language Education study programs in three universities in Yogyakarta and Pekanbaru. The findings of the study show that the developed instructional materials met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The results of the validation process indicate that the instructional reading materials were categorized into appropriate (3.3) to be used for teaching reading. The practicality of the product indicates that the developed product is very appropriate (85%) to enhance students’ critical awareness on particular social issues. Also, the developed product has interesting and diverse learning activities (60%) which is appropriate for students of the English Language Education Study Program. After conducting the main field testing, it was seen that the Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.05. Therefore, the developed product is effective to improve the students’ critical literacy skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of students’ understanding of the principle of the rule of law in Indonesia among 47 first semester students of the Law Program at Universitas Panca Bhakti. The research employed a quantitative descriptive approach, with data collected through a closed ended questionnaire comprising three main indicators: supremacy of law, equality before the law, and fair law enforcement. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques to determine the students’ level of understanding. The results revealed that 30 students (63.83%) demonstrated a high level of understanding of the rule of law, 14 students (29.79%) were in the moderate category, and 3 students (6.38%) were in the low category. These findings confirm that the majority of students have a solid grasp of the fundamental concepts and values of the rule of law, although a small portion still requires improvement through more contextual and applied learning approaches. This study is expected to serve as a reference for law programs in strengthening learning strategies based on constitutional understanding and enhancing legal awareness from the early stages of legal education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of religious moderation values in improving the community’s economy in Pontianak City. Religious moderation encompasses tawassuth (moderation), tasamuh (tolerance), ta’awun (cooperation), and i’tidal (justice), which are believed to foster social harmony and promote economic productivity. The research employs a quantitative approach with a descriptive–correlational method. The population consists of active economic actors in Pontianak, with a sample of 385 respondents selected using proportional random sampling. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire, interviews, and secondary documentation, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The results indicate that religious moderation is at a high level (mean score = 4.23), while community economic improvement is also high (mean score = 4.11). Regression analysis shows a positive and significant relationship, with R² = 0.451 and the equation Y = 1.247 + 0.689X, indicating that the internalization of religious moderation values explains 45.1% of the variation in community economic improvement. This study concludes that religious moderation plays a vital role in promoting an inclusive, ethical, and sustainable community-based economy. Practically, the findings provide a basis for local economic development policies, while theoretically, they enrich interdisciplinary studies linking economics, society, and religion.

Abstract

ABSTRACTDegreening is a transformation process on peel which enables it to change color from green to orange on citrus fruits. The orange color of the peel comes from the mixture of carotenoid pigments, such as β-cryptoxanthin and β-citraurin. The pigments contributed in the formation of β-citraurin are β-cryptoxanthin and zeaxanthin. The objectives of this study were (1) to obtain proper degreening temperature in the orange color formation of several citrus varieties, and (2) to identify and determine pigments of β-cryptoxanthin pigment and total chlorophyll content in citrus peel after degreening. This study was conducted at PKHT IPB and LIPI Cibinong from July 2013 to December 2013, and from February 2016 to May 2017. About 100 ppm of ethylene gas was injected into a citrus-containing box using 5 ml syringe, then the box was placed in cool storage at 15 0C, 20 0C and room temperature, for 72 hours. The results showed that the best colors of Keprok Selayar and Keprok Tejakula were obtained by the degreening at 15 0C, in Siam Kintamani it was obtained by degreening at 20 0C. Degreening significantly reduced the total chlorophyll content, and increased β-cryptoxanthin content. The content of β-cryptoxanthin after degreening was 3 folds higher on highland Citrus reticulata than lowland citrus. Keywords: citrus color index, chlorophill, degreening, ethylene, tropical citrusABSTRAKDegreening adalah proses perombakan warna hijau pada kulit jeruk diikuti dengan proses pembentukan warna jingga.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of interactional feedback on students writing skills. One hundred participants enrolled in an intermediate EFL course at the State University of Malang, Indonesia, were recruited for this research. The quantitative method was employed for data analysis. The primary data analysis method used was the ANCOVA test, followed by the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. The results reveal that the dependent variables in the experimental group exhibited higher means compared to the control group. The ANCOVA test show that the dependent variables (writing length, accuracy, and effectiveness) were significantly affected by the addition of feedback (p = 0.000). However, no significant differences were found between the experimental and control groups regarding accuracy (p = 0.425) and writing length variables (p = 0.731). As a result, interactional feedback significantly impacted EFL students writing ability. This result highlights the need for thorough planning and preparation, including preparing ESL/EFL students through explicit instruction prior to peer review, to ensure that learners interactional feedback is useful. The findings suggest that EFL teachers should carefully select feedback styles that align with the intended purpose of providing feedback. For instance, more specific feedback options may prove more effective in assisting students in revising and improving their written assignments. Finally, this study provides valuable recommendations for further research in this field.
