Abstract

Purpose: Mendeley is an application widely used by scientific article writers. With the Mendeley application, writers will be assisted in citing and compiling reference lists. Training in the use of the Mendeley application in compiling scientific papers for teachers in Kendari City aims to improve teachers' understanding and skills in reference and citation management. Research Methodology: The activity was conducted through interactive lectures, demonstrations of Mendeley usage, and hands-on practice Results: The results of the activity showed that the training participants, consisting of teachers in Kendari City, experienced a significant increase in their understanding of the importance of citations and their practical skills in using Mendeley to manage references, insert citations, and automatically generate bibliographies. This community service activity was motivated by the low proficiency of teachers in writing scientific papers that meet academic writing standards, particularly regarding citations and bibliographies. Conclusions: The training on the use of Mendeley for teachers successfully improved their understanding and basic skills in digital reference management. Participants were able to operate key features such as automatic citation and bibliography generation Limitations: Limited training time, varying levels of digital literacy, and technical device issues posed challenges Contributions: This training is expected to encourage teachers to be more active in scientific activities and produce high-quality scientific papers.

Abstract

The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in language education has drawn significant attention to its potential to support students’ writing development. This study investigates the impact of Gemini AI–assisted instruction on students’ paragraph writing ability using a one-shot case study experimental design. Gemini AI was integrated into the instructional process for undergraduate students enrolled in a paragraph writing course. Following the intervention, 28 students completed a post-test in the form of a paragraph writing task. Their writing was evaluated using an analytical scoring rubric focusing on coherence, organization, vocabulary use, grammatical accuracy, and unity. The findings indicate that Gemini AI provided effective scaffolding during the writing process, as students demonstrated satisfactory to strong performance, particularly in organization, idea development, and coherence. Although the one-shot design limits causal interpretation due to the absence of a pre-test and control group, the results offer initial empirical evidence of the pedagogical potential of Gemini AI in paragraph writing instruction. The study therefore recommends further research using more rigorous experimental designs and highlights the importance of integrating AI tools in a careful and pedagogically informed manner.

Abstract

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are adequate for analyzing complex scientific and spatial phenomena in geography education. Google Earth is a geographic information tool for GIS-based learning in phase E with the topic of Remote Sensing Mapping and GIS Basics. This tool allows students to engage in simpler map creation. This study aims to determine the use of Google Earth media based on the Project Based Learning model on student learning outcomes at SMAN 6 Solok-Selatan. The research method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental approach. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique. The sample used consisted of a control class and an experimental class with a total of 72 students. Data collection used pretest and posttest instruments in the form of essays. Data analysis used an independent sample t-test to determine the difference in pretest-posttest results between the two classes. The results showed a difference in learning outcomes of 87.75 for the experimental class, and 87.27 for the control class. This is proven by the value of the difference test results (t), from the calculation above obtained (2-tailed) of 0.000 smaller than 0.05, so it can be concluded that H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted. The researcher's conclusion is that Google Earth media is more effective in improving student learning outcomes compared to conventional presentation media in Geography learning.
