Abstract

Abstract: Teachers are more active in teaching and learning process, while the students only receive the material, question and answer and record so that learning math is very boring for students. To help students to be more active, teachers make various changes or new things in teaching mathematics, one of them by using Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach. This research includes true experimental research with Pretest-Postest Control Group Design design. Population in this research is all students of class VII MTsN Olak Kemang City Jambi academic year 2017/2018. Sampling using random sampling technique and samples of research are class VII B (experiment) and VII C (control). This study aims to determine whether there is a significant effect of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach to the ability to understand the mathematical concepts of students on the subject of the Set. Data collection is done by doing pretest and posttest which each consist of 7 problem. From the result of data analysis done on the difference of pretest-posttest average in two samples obtained titung for the comprehension ability of mathematical concept 4.93 and ttabel is 1.66. At the real level α is 0.05. From the calculation results show that t count is greater than ttable, then H0 is rejected and HI accepted. Based on the final result, it can be concluded that there is a difference of students' understanding of mathematical concept between the experimental class and the control class. Thus, it was concluded that the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach significantly influenced the students' understanding of mathematical concepts. Keywords: Influence, Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), and Ability to Understand Mathematical Concepts.

Abstract

One thing that becomes a problem in the midst of too late people with this millennial era is the decline of the nation's character. Technological sophistication instead leads to dishonesty, arrogance, individualistic, materialistic and so on. That is why many people now complain about the differences in the character of children from the past with the millennial period. Ofcourse this condition becomes a difficult challenge for teachers to overcome, because on one hand the teacher must be able to ward off various possibilities arising from technological and information activities, but on the other hand the teacher also cannot forbid them to avoid it. Certainly not the same as character education in the past with character education today. This paper aims to analyze: (1) Urgency of character education in the millennial era, (2) Strategies for planting characters in students in the millennial era, (3) Challenges in planting characters in millennial generation. This study uses qualitative research methods using a descriptive analysis approach. Data collection techniques are done by observation, interviews, and study documentation. This research was conducted at MIS Hidayatussalam, for 2 months, and with a total of 10 informants. The results showed that: (1) Character education has urgency including building religious and nationalist personalities, creating a generation that is ready to face all kinds of challenges, creating a generation that is ready to face global competition, (2) Character investing strategies used among them through intra-curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities, (3) Some challenges faced are the lack of ability to filter the flow of globalization, the lack of collaboration between parents, educators, and society, the lack of exemplariness and habituation of adults.

Abstract

Globalization as a phenomenon that has been closely associated with 21st century is an interesting topic of discussion among academics and practitioners alike. The term is closely related with neo-liberalism paradigm in which it refers to an economic integration governed by the priciples of liberalization and openness. Even so, globalization did not occurr without resistance. Inequality resulted from the process of globalization has made some people struggle to resist it especially in the terms of economy. This article aimed to describe how globalization reshapes the world order and how it resulted to the anti-globalization movement that struggle to resist the inequality from the process of globalization.

Abstract

Abstract: Math is able to train logical, analytical, systematic, critical, and creative thinking of students. Mathematical critical thinking ability is a capability that supports a variety of other mathematical thinking abilities. The students' critical thinking ability is also closely related to the personality or character of the student. Personality can affect how a person behaves, thinks, or interacts with around. The personality types discussed in this study are examined from four types of temperaments by the theories of Hippocrates and Galenus. This research includes the type of qualitative research that uses descriptive qualitative research methodology. This research will be conducted on the students of class XI MIA SMA Negeri 2 Kota Jambi. The thing described in this research is the students' mathematical critical thinking based on the dominant personality type on linear program solution. The results of personality tests of the instrument adapted from the patterns of personality by Lana Bateman found 40 dominant students that is the type of phlegmatic personality. Furthermore, based on sampling technique that is purposive sampling technique, 2 students are taken as research subjects ie phlegmatic students with the highest level of critical thinking ability called first phlegmatic students and phlegmatic students with the lowest level of critical thinking ability is called second phlegmatic student. From the results obtained can be concluded that the first phlegmatic students have the level of critical thinking skills are very critical and the second phlegmatic students have a critical level of critical thinking is not critical. This is inversely between the ability to think critically and the type of phlegmatic personality. The first phlegmatic student with enough phlegmatic category has critical critical mathematical thinking and the second phlegmatic student with very high / dominant phlegmatic category, critical critical thinking ability is not critical. Keywords: Mathematical Critical Thinking Ability, Four Temperament Types
