Abstract

Holistic education aims to educate students comprehensively, both in terms of religious knowledge and general knowledge. However, in reality, holistic education in Islamic educational institutions such as Islamic boarding schools has not been implemented properly. Students must be equipped with various abilities or skills to live their lives and pursue their future careers. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the implementation of holistic education in Islamic educational institutions. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data sources were obtained through in-depth interviews with twelve informants consisting of two school leaders, six senior and junior teachers, and three students. All informants were selected using snowball sampling. To support the interview data, the author also conducted direct observations for one month on how holistic education is practiced in the educational institutions under study. In addition, the author also analyzed academic documents that support data related to the research topic. All data were analyzed thematically using the interactive Miles and Huberman technique. The findings show that there are eight practices implemented in holistic education in Islamic educational institutions where this research was conducted. These eight practices are integrated into the teaching of religious beliefs and morals, general knowledge, public speaking skills training, social intelligence interaction, leadership basics, independence, discipline, and physical endurance. These findings can be used as a reference for educational institutions to implement true holistic education. Furthermore, the author suggests that future researchers conduct studies related to this issue, such as holistic education learning methods.

Abstract

This research endeavors to ascertain the impact of financial literacy, financial inclusion, fintech payment gateways, and digital marketing on the financial performance of MSMEs in Central Java. Employing a quantitative research design, this study utilizes primary data. The population under investigation comprises 193,932 MSME actors within the Central Java region. A purposive sampling method was applied, resulting in a total of 100 respondents. Data collection instruments were designed using a likert scale, and the analytical procedures were performed utilizing WarpPLS version 7.0. The results disclose that financial literacy imparts a positive and statistically significant effect on financial performance. Conversely, financial inclusion fails to exhibit a significant association with financial performance. Moreover, the adoption of fintech payment gateways manifests a positive and significant influence, while digital marketing reveals a negative yet statistically insignificant effect on financial performance. Collectively, the concurrent impact of financial literacy, payment gateways, and digital marketing has been empirically validated to exert a favorable influence on financial performance, as indicated by an R-squared value of 69.7%

Abstract

Strategic management is an important element in ensuring the sustainability and relevance of Islamic education institutions amid the dynamics of global change. This article aimed to analyze the strategic management of Islamic education with a focus on the role of vision, mission and synergy as the foundation in creating strategic change. This research uses the literature study method to examine key concepts in Islamic education strategic management and their practical applications. The results show that vision provides an inspiring long-term direction, mission defines the main goals that distinguish the institution, while synergy enables effective coordination between organizational elements to achieve common goals. These three elements, when strategically designed and implemented, are capable of creating significant change that supports institutional transformation. The article also identifies key challenges that Islamic education institutions often face, including resistance to change, lack of coordination and limited resources, and offers strategic solutions to overcome them. By building synergy between vision, mission and implementation strategies, Islamic education institutions can optimize their role in responding to the needs of the times without abandoning their fundamental values. This study is expected to be a reference for Islamic education managers in developing innovative and sustainable strategies.

Abstract

The current discourse on sustainable development is often dominated by the technocratic and secular Western paradigm, while the historical contributions of non-Western civilizations, especially Islam, have received less academic attention. This article aims to explore the values and historical practices in classical Islamic civilization that reflect the principles of sustainable development, emphasizing the ecosocial dimension of history as the main analytical approach. The method used is qualitative research with a historical-thematic approach, through a literature study of primary and secondary sources from three major Islamic civilization cities: Baghdad, Córdoba, and Timbuktu. The analytical techniques used include data reduction, thematic categorization, and hermeneutic interpretation of texts and social-ecological practices. The results show that classical Islamic civilization has applied the principles of social justice, ecological balance, and spiritual responsibility in urban governance, agricultural systems, water management, and social institutions such as waqf. The intellectual contributions of Muslim figures in the fields of science, agriculture, and architecture also laid the foundation for a holistic development framework. This research confirms that maqāṣid al-sharī'ah values have high relevance to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and can be an alternative to today's development paradigm that is more ethical and contextual. The findings are expected to enrich the development discourse with a history- and value-based Islamic perspective.

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence is developing rapidly and is beginning to be widely adopted in higher education, including as a learning tool. However, the integration of AI into the realm of Islamic religious studies raises a number of issues for students, particularly regarding the validity and contextualization of AI responses to religious material rich in historical, linguistic, and spiritual meaning. This study aims to understand how students in the Bachelor of Islamic Religious Education program utilize AI as a tool to improve their pedagogical competence, as well as to identify their perspectives, support systems, and the obstacles they face in this process. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The results show that students actively use natural language processing-based platforms—AI technology that enables computers to understand, interpret, and respond to human language, both written and spoken. They also utilize global online learning platforms to broaden their horizons and collaboratively for academic discussions. However, doubts about the AI's responses arise due to its limitations in understanding the cultural, historical, and linguistic context of Arabic, particularly in Qur'anic interpretation and Islamic jurisprudence. To verify this, students compare the AI's results with classical literature, academic references, and direct consultations with experts. Key challenges identified include the gap between Islamic spiritual values and the formal logic of AI, limited digital access in remote areas, low digital literacy, and concerns that reliance on AI could diminish students' critical thinking skills regarding religious texts. These findings provide important contributions to the development of more inclusive and effective learning strategies, considering the thoughtful and contextual integration of AI into religious education in the digital age.
