Abstract

The low level of science literacy among students in Indonesia in 2022, with a score of 383, as well as the results of observations and interviews with teachers at SDN 4 Karangtengah and SDN 2 Kepanjenlor, show that student science literacy is a serious challenge. This condition is reinforced by school policies that do not allow the use of gadgets as digital learning resources, thus requiring non-digital media. The study aimed to develop a children's magazine on ecosystems by integrating valid, practical, and effective PISA science literacy indicators to improve students' science literacy. The research was conducted using an R&D model with the ADDIE development model. The research subjects were one validator for each expert, two fifth-grade teachers, and 36 fifth-grade students from two schools. Data were obtained from the assessment of subject matter experts, media, and instruments, the completion of practicality questionnaires by teachers and students, and the administration of pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed that the children's magazine on ecosystem material had high validity, with an average validation score of 100% for the material, 92.3% for the media, and 92.5% for the test instruments. The achievement of the maximum score by subject matter experts identified that the material met the validation instrument criteria with a rating scale of 1-4. It should be noted that this score was obtained after making improvements based on the suggestions and input from subject matter expert validators. The level of practicality received a score of 94.3% on the student questionnaire and 95.8% on the teacher questionnaire, which means that the children's magazine is very practical. Its effectiveness is evident from the N-Gain score of 0.80 or 80%, indicating a high and effective category. In addition, the children's magazine has a significant effect on improving science literacy, as evidenced by the Wilcoxon test results with a score of 0.000. Thus, it can be concluded that the children's magazine on the ecosystem is able to improve the science literacy of fifth-grade students.

Abstract

The diversity of elementary school students’ learning readiness, which is not yet fully accommodated by conventional teaching materials, has an impact on low conceptual understanding of mathematics, particularly fraction topics. This study aimed to develop a differentiated e-module using the Understanding by Design (UbD) approach that is valid, practical, and effective for improving the conceptual understanding of fourth-grade elementary school students. The method employed adapted the ADDIE model, encompassing the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data analysis included the Gregory validity test, calculation of practicality percentages, and effectiveness testing using a paired-sample t-test and N-gain analysis. The results showed that the developed e-module had very high validity (coefficient of 1), very high practicality according to students (95.5%) and teachers (96%), and effectively improved conceptual understanding, with the average pretest score increasing from 66.16 to 82.08, a significance value of 0.000, and an N-gain in the medium category. These findings reinforce that integrating differentiated instruction and the UbD framework into digital teaching materials can enhance the quality of students’ conceptual understanding. The study concludes that the differentiated e-module is feasible for use as an alternative adaptive teaching material, with implications for the development of mathematics instructional designs based on students’ needs in elementary schools.

Abstract

The low availability of AKM-oriented numeracy items in elementary schools, as reflected in the results of PISA 2022, TIMSS 2023, and Rapor Pendidikan 2025, indicates the need to develop assessment instruments that are more contextual and relevant. This condition is reinforced by the results of needs questionnaires, interviews, and observations at SDN Kesamben 07 and SDN Kesamben 04, which showed that all 41 students stated that they needed an AKM-oriented numeracy assessment instrument. This study aims to develop AKM-oriented numeracy items based on Blitar cultural heritage for fifth-grade elementary school students that are valid, practical, and have good item quality. This study employed a research and development method using the Borg and Gall model implemented through 10 stages. The research subjects included 44 students at the preliminary trial stage, 41 students at the field trial stage, and 61 students at the operational field testing stage at SDN Kesamben 04, SDN Kesamben 07, and SDN Kesamben 06. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, questionnaires, item responses analyzed for each item, and documentation. The results showed that the product obtained a validity percentage of 95.31% in the very valid category, and instrument expert validation of 92.18% in the very valid category. Practicality according to teachers increased consistently across the three stages, with an average percentage of 96.25% in the very practical category, while practicality according to students reached an average percentage of 92.58% in the very practical category. The item analysis conducted in stages produced 29 final items that met all feasibility criteria. Thus, the 29 developed items have met the criteria of validity, practicality, and good item quality as a numeracy assessment instrument. This study contributes theoretically to the development of AKM numeracy assessment instruments and practically recommends the use of local culture-based assessments aligned with the Kurikulum Merdeka. In addition, this study opens opportunities for further studies on the effectiveness of the product at other educational levels and in different cultural heritage contexts.

Abstract

This study was motivated by students’ low conceptual understanding and independent character in science learning, particularly on the topic of human blood circulation in fifth grade of elementary school. The abstract nature of the material, along with still-conventional learning practices, causes students to experience difficulties in understanding concepts in depth and to demonstrate low learning independence. This study aims to analyze the effect of PAZAR media (Augmented Reality-based Puzzle) on students’ conceptual understanding and independent character. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design in the experimental class and the control class. Data were collected through a conceptual understanding test and an independent character questionnaire, and were then analyzed using a paired sample t-test and MANOVA after fulfilling the prerequisite tests of normality and homogeneity. The results showed that PAZAR media had a significant effect on students’ conceptual understanding (0.000 < 0.05), students’ independent character (0.002 < 0.05), as well as simultaneously on both based on the MANOVA test (0.000 < 0.05). The conclusion of this study confirms that PAZAR media has an effect on improving students’ conceptual understanding and independent character on the topic of human blood circulation. These findings contribute to the development of innovative learning media that support the strengthening of students’ cognitive and character aspects in science learning in elementary school.

Abstract

Scientific literacy is an important skill that elementary school students need to master in understanding and solving science-based problems. However, science learning in elementary schools is still not optimal because students experience difficulties in understanding concepts, solving problems step by step, connecting material with everyday life contexts, and have not yet been actively involved in the learning process. This condition affects students’ low scientific literacy, particularly in the material on changes in states of matter. This study aims to prove the effect of the Logan Avenue Problem Solving-Heuristic (LAPS-Heuristic) learning model on students’ scientific literacy. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a nonequivalent control group design. The research participants consisted of an experimental class and a control class selected through the purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through scientific literacy tests and observation guidelines for the implementation of learning. The results show that the implementation of the LAPS-Heuristic learning model was in the very good category, with a percentage of 94% in the first meeting and 97% in the second meeting. The most prominent improvement in students’ scientific literacy occurred at the stage of understanding the problem, which was aligned with the content aspect, namely students’ ability to identify and understand the concept of changes in states of matter based on the phenomena presented. The hypothesis test results using the independent samples t-test showed a significance value of 0.001 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. Thus, the LAPS-Heuristic learning model has a positive effect on the scientific literacy of Grade IV MI students. The implications of this study indicate that structured problem-solving-based learning can help students understand problems more meaningfully and contextually, making it suitable as an alternative for science learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

Science learning positions products, processes, and scientific attitudes as an integrated whole, including strengthening students’ curiosity. However, science learning in elementary schools still often fails to optimally foster learning interest. This study aims to prove the effect of joyful learning-based virtual reality media for compost-making on elementary school students’ interest in learning Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS). This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The research sample consisted of 27 students in the experimental class and 27 students in the control class, selected through random sampling. Data were collected using a learning interest questionnaire and analyzed using an independent samples t-test. The results show that the significance value of the independent samples t-test was 0.001, indicating a significant effect of using joyful learning-based virtual reality media on students’ learning interest in compost-making instruction. These findings affirm that learning interest is an important factor in learning because it can influence students’ engagement and cognitive achievement. The conclusion of this study shows that joyful learning-based virtual reality media is suitable for use as a more engaging science learning solution that supports the improvement of elementary school students’ learning interest.

Abstract

The need for teaching modules that are contextual and aligned with local culture serves as an important basis for developing Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning in elementary schools, especially because the existing modules still tend to be general and insufficiently connected to students’ daily lives. This study aims to develop an IPAS teaching module based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on the cultural values of Reog Ponorogo to foster patriotism among Grade IV elementary school students. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects consisted of 16 Grade IV students at SD Negeri 2 Bringin. The validity of the module was tested using the Gregory formula, practicality was analyzed based on the percentage of teacher responses, while effectiveness was tested through N-gain and a paired sample t-test based on pretest and posttest data. The results showed that the students’ average score increased from 26.44 in the pretest to 38 in the posttest. The effectiveness test results showed a significance value of 0.001, and the N-gain achievement was in the very high category. These findings indicate that the PBL-based IPAS teaching module on the cultural values of Reog Ponorogo was declared valid, practical, and effective in improving students’ understanding of local cultural values and is feasible for use in fostering patriotism among Grade IV elementary school students. This study provides a theoretical contribution to the development of literature on IPAS teaching modules that integrate PBL and local wisdom. Practically, this module can be used by teachers to create learning that is more contextual, meaningful, and closely connected to students’ lives, while also opening opportunities for the application of similar approaches in different subjects and levels of education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the evolution of instructional media in the IPAS subject in line with technological advancements, along with its impact on students’ conceptual understanding. A qualitative approach was employed using a literature review of scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025, sourced from Google Scholar and Garuda. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis techniques to identify types of instructional media and their influence on the IPAS learning process. The findings reveal a transformation of instructional media from conventional forms to digital and advanced technology-based formats, such as interactive applications, video animations, and augmented reality. These developments have a positive impact on improving students’ conceptual understanding, motivation, and engagement, particularly with abstract IPAS content. Technology-based media have proven to be more effective because they provide concrete and interactive visualizations. However, their implementation is still hindered by limitations in infrastructure and teacher skills. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen teachers’ competencies in developing and utilizing innovative learning media to make IPAS learning more effective and meaningful.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology in the 21st century has brought about a significant shift in the educational landscape, particularly in the use of media as a support for the learning process. This article aims to examine the extent to which digital learning media contribute to fostering learner autonomy. This study is built upon a literature review approach by analyzing 15 relevant scholarly sources, including recent journals and academic publications. The analytical technique employed is content analysis, which is used to identify key concepts, recurring patterns, and the interconnections between digital learning media and students’ learning autonomy. The findings reveal that digital learning media hold substantial potential in accelerating learning autonomy through flexible access, interactive learning experiences, and content that aligns with individual needs. The presence of digital media opens opportunities for learners to manage their learning pathways independently, from planning stages to evaluating learning outcomes. However, its effectiveness does not stand alone it is strongly influenced by the precision of the instructional design implemented, the readiness and competence of teachers as facilitators, as well as the availability of technological infrastructure and adequate digital literacy levels. Without well-crafted and measurable pedagogical planning, digital media risk being reduced to merely passive channels of information delivery. Therefore, the use of digital media in learning must be designed strategically and contextually to truly serve as a catalyst for optimal student learning autonomy amid the rapid current of digital transformation. ABSTRAK Pesatnya perkembangan teknologi digital di era abad ke-21 telah menghadirkan pergeseran yang cukup fundamental dalam lanskap pendidikan, terutama dalam hal pemanfaatan media sebagai penunjang proses pembelajaran. Artikel ini hadir dengan tujuan untuk menelaah sejauh mana media pembelajaran digital berperan dalam mendorong tumbuhnya kemandirian belajar pada diri peserta didik. Kajian ini dibangun di atas pendekatan studi literatur dengan menelaah 15 sumber ilmiah yang dipandang relevan, mencakup jurnal-jurnal serta publikasi akademik mutakhir. Adapun teknik analisis yang diterapkan adalah analisis isi, yang difungsikan untuk mengidentifikasi konsep-konsep kunci, pola yang berulang, serta keterkaitan yang terjalin antara media pembelajaran digital dan kemandirian belajar peserta didik. Hasil kajian mengungkapkan bahwa media pembelajaran digital menyimpan potensi yang sangat besar dalam mengakselerasi kemandirian belajar, yakni melalui kemudahan akses yang fleksibel, pengalaman belajar yang interaktif, serta kesesuaian konten dengan kebutuhan masing-masing individu. Kehadiran media digital membuka peluang bagi peserta didik untuk mengelola perjalanan belajar mereka secara otonom, mulai dari tahap perencanaan hingga evaluasi hasil belajar. Meski demikian, efektivitasnya tidak berdiri sendiri ia sangat dipengaruhi oleh kecermatan desain pembelajaran yang diterapkan, kesiapan dan kompetensi guru sebagai fasilitator, serta ketersediaan infrastruktur teknologi dan tingkat literasi digital yang memadai. Tanpa perencanaan pedagogis yang matang dan terukur, media digital berisiko tereduksi menjadi sekadar kanal penyampai informasi yang pasif. Atas dasar itulah, pemanfaatan media digital dalam pembelajaran perlu dirancang secara strategis dan kontekstual agar benar-benar mampu menjadi katalisator kemandirian belajar peserta didik secara optimal di tengah derasnya arus transformasi digital.

Abstract

Advances in digital technology have spurred the emergence of various learning innovations aimed at improving the quality of the learning process. One widely used innovation is three-dimensional (3D) learning media, as it can present objects in a more concrete, realistic, and interactive manner compared to conventional media. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of three-dimensional learning media in supporting learning innovations in the digital age. The study employed a literature review method by examining various relevant journals, books, and scientific articles from 2022 to 2026. Data were analyzed based on aspects of conceptual understanding, learning outcomes, motivation, student engagement, and the application of 3D media across various subjects. The findings indicate that 3D learning media is effective in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding, particularly for abstract topics, as it provides more realistic and easily understandable visualizations. Additionally, 3D media has also been proven to enhance student motivation, engagement, and learning outcomes in science, mathematics, and civic education. The integration of technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) further strengthens the effectiveness of 3D media by providing a more interactive, engaging, and meaningful learning experience. However, the implementation of 3D media still faces challenges in the form of limited resources and teachers’ readiness to manage technology-based learning. Therefore, the use of 3D learning media needs to be optimally designed to support effective, innovative learning that is relevant to the demands of the digital age. ABSTRAK Perkembangan teknologi digital mendorong munculnya berbagai inovasi pembelajaran yang bertujuan meningkatkan kualitas proses belajar. Salah satu inovasi yang banyak digunakan adalah media pembelajaran tiga dimensi (3D) karena mampu menyajikan objek secara lebih konkret, realistis, dan interaktif dibandingkan media konvensional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas media pembelajaran tiga dimensi dalam mendukung inovasi pembelajaran di era digital. Penelitian menggunakan metode studi literatur dengan mengkaji berbagai jurnal, buku, dan artikel ilmiah yang relevan pada rentang tahun 2022–2026. Data dianalisis berdasarkan aspek pemahaman konsep, hasil belajar, motivasi, keterlibatan siswa, serta penerapan media 3D pada berbagai mata pelajaran. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran 3D efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep siswa, terutama pada materi yang bersifat abstrak, karena mampu menghadirkan visualisasi yang lebih nyata dan mudah dipahami. Selain itu, media 3D juga terbukti meningkatkan motivasi, keterlibatan, dan hasil belajar siswa pada pembelajaran IPAS, matematika, maupun PPKn. Integrasi teknologi seperti Augmented Reality (AR) dan Virtual Reality (VR) semakin memperkuat efektivitas media 3D karena memberikan pengalaman belajar yang lebih interaktif, menarik, dan bermakna. Namun, implementasi media 3D masih menghadapi kendala berupa keterbatasan sarana dan kesiapan guru dalam mengelola pembelajaran berbasis teknologi. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan media pembelajaran 3D perlu dirancang secara optimal agar mampu mendukung terciptanya pembelajaran yang efektif, inovatif, dan relevan dengan tuntutan era digital.
