Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical representation ability of eighth-grade junior high school students in solving Two-Variable Linear Equation Systems (SLS). The method used is descriptive qualitative with 30 students selected through purposive sampling as subjects. The research instrument is a mathematical representation ability test consisting of three SLS questions and interviews. The results of the study indicate that students' mathematical representation abilities are divided into high, medium, and low categories. High category students are able to fulfill symbolic and visual representations, but are still weak in verbal representations. Medium category students are quite good in symbolic representations, but still experience errors in visual and verbal representations. Meanwhile, low category students experience difficulties in all representation indicators. These findings indicate that students' mathematical representation abilities in SLS material are not optimal and require more effective learning strategies.

Abstract

Learning activities were changed from face-to-face to full-online due to the COVID-19 pandemic at the end of 2019. Online learning through WhatsApp Group (WAG) was used by a mathematics teacher in higher education program in the early 2020. However, the learning result showed that 75% of preservice teacher were unable to accomplish their elementary linear algebra material. The combination of online learning through asynchronous method and synchronous learning was an alternative solution to solve the problem and enable preservice teachers having virtual face-to-face interactions with their lecturers. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the improvement in preservice teachers' learning outcomes and responses to synchronous and asynchronous learning. The research design used was one group posttest-only with 23 subjects were selected by clustered random sampling. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis. The test results showed that learning outcomes after synchronous and asynchronous learning was effective. While the questionnaire results expressed most preservice teachers gave a positive response to both learning methods. Thus, the combination of the two methods could improve the effectiveness of online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is recommended that higher education institutions provide innovative e-learning platforms for preservice teachers in developing further online learning methods.

Abstract

Descriptive research with a qualitative approach method is used because it is accordance with the research objectives, namely to describe students' mathematical literacy towards the performance of the PISA questions in terms of gender. The subjects in this study were two students that 1 male and 1 female in the high math ability of category in grade 9 of junior high schools. Subjects were selected by purposive sampling by giving a mathematical ability test to 25 students to see their mathematical abilities, then also taking into account the mathematics teaching teacher, two students were obtained as research subjects in accordance with the purpose of the study, namely to describe students' mathematical literacy based on gender, especially students with high mathematical abilities. The instrument used was a mathematical ability test and a mathematical literacy test as well as an interview guide as research data. Based on data analysis, there is an influence of gender on students mathematical literacy level. Females mathematical iteracy is better than males mathematical literarcy, so there needs to be efforts to improve learning from both teachers and schools so that there are no longer differences in abilities between male and female, and gender does not affect mathematical literacy.

Abstract

The library is part of school facilities that must be managed properly. But in reality, in the field there are still many school libraries that are still not good in the management system such as reading room arrangement that is not comfortable, books that are not labeled so that it is difficult for readers to look for it, it is difficult to know the availability of books (administrative services using manuals) and there are still many librarians who Not yet qualified in their fields, there are even librarians who are not purely library subjects, so there is a need for training and education for librarians and providers in the school library. We see the need for library development in several schools in Tlanakan sub-district. Because it can increase interest in visiting and reading students. So that the target in achieving is the increase of librarian's knowledge and ability in managing the school library properly so that the library becomes a maximum means of supporting student learning. The findings of this activity are the participants responded well. They get a lot of previously unknown knowledge about library management and are motivated to develop libraries in their schools and plan to follow other trainings that support their knowledge in managing the library.

Abstract

Not all teachers in Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs)’s public of Sumber Bungur have the ability to adapt to Information and Communication of Technology(ICT) development. Especially in the management of technology-based applications.Whereas with the rapid development of technology, teachers ' knowledge of technology must be mastered in order to support success in learning. The goal of this devotion is to introduce blended learning and motivate teachers to apply technology in learning. The participants of the devotion are representatives of the teacher teachers in the subjects at MTs Sumber Bunga as many as 14 people. Before the devotion carried out the participants were given Pretests aims to know the initial knowledge of participants related to the model of learning, utilization of ICT and blended learning, the result teachers are less utilizing ICT in learning and yet Know about blended learning. Whilethe results of the dedication gained data that the participants experienced an increase in knowledge about blended learning. Participants can also utilize the app Edmodo and quiz creator that supports teachers to apply blended learning. The poll stated that participants responded well to the implementation of devotion. They want to apply blended learning in learning after knowing its usefulness.

Abstract

The integration of education and culture is one of the rapidly developing fields of mathematics research today, especially through studies of traditional architecture such as Madurese kobhung. This study aims to describe the forms and patterns of ethnomathematics contained in the kobhung structures of the Madurese community. This approach is important because it can help students understand abstract geometric concepts through their connection with Madurese local wisdom. This study aims to describe the mathematical concepts found in the structure and patterns of the Madurese kobhung and map out how these concepts can be used in the mathematics learning process. The method used is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The research subjects are 10 Madurese informants in Pamekasan and authentic kobhung structures as purposive samples. Data collection methods included direct participatory observation in the field, in-depth interviews, visual documentation, and literature study. The main instrument was the researcher as a human instrument. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, which included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing with source triangulation validation and reliability through retesting. The results of this study describe Madurese kobhung as containing mathematical elements, namely straight/parallel lines, acute/obtuse/right angles, flat shapes (rectangles, isosceles triangles, trapezoids), congruence, geometric transformations, and the Pythagorean theorem in the pracik structure. The ethnomathematical study of kobhung in geometry learning shows that this traditional architecture can be used as a context for mathematics learning, so that the material taught becomes more contextual and has cultural meaning. This study is still limited to identifying ethnomathematical elements in the Madurese kobhung structure and has not examined its application and effectiveness in classroom learning. Therefore, the researchers recommend further research on its implementation in mathematics classroom learning.
