Abstract

This study aims to describe teachers' perceptions regarding the implementation of problem-based learning (PBL) through digital gamification to enhance student engagement. Specifically, it examines teachers' views on the effects and challenges of applying digital gamification-based PBL to improve student activity. The research employs a mixed-methods approach with a sequential explanatory design. Findings indicate that teachers generally hold positive perceptions of integrating PBL with digital gamification. Teachers report that gamification makes learning more engaging and fosters active participation, including questioning, discussion, and opinion expression. Additionally, teachers observe increased enthusiasm, collaboration, and student independence in problem-solving. However, the study also identifies challenges such as limited internet access and devices, varying levels of teachers' digital proficiency, and the need for professional development to design effective digital gamification-based PBL scenarios. Factors supporting successful implementation include adequate school facilities, teacher creativity, and student motivation. Overall, the study concludes that digital gamification-based PBL has the potential to enhance student activity, although its effectiveness depends significantly on technological readiness, institutional support, and teacher pedagogical competence

Abstract

This research investigates the effect of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model on the critical thinking abilities of third-grade students in the Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) subject at MI Muhammadiyah Romang Lompoa. The study adopts a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The participants consisted of two classes: an experimental group taught using the PjBL model and a control group receiving conventional instruction, each comprising 20 students. Data were collected through a validated essay-based critical thinking test. Statistical analysis using a t-test was conducted to examine differences between the pre-test and post-test results of both groups. The findings reveal that students' critical thinking abilities significantly improved after the PjBL model was implemented, as seen by the experimental class's higher mean post-test scores than the control group. Therefore, the study concludes that PjBL has a positive and significant impact on enhancing students’ critical thinking skills in science-related learning materials.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the application of a differentiated approach in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning in elementary schools. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with a multisite study design. The data of this research consist of descriptive information related to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of differentiated instruction in the IPAS subject. The data were obtained from teachers and students who were directly involved in the IPAS learning activities. Data collection techniques in the form of observation, depth interviews, and documentation analysis. The data were analyzed using the interactive analysis model by Miles & Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The subjects of the study were teachers and students from three elementary schools in Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi, namely SD Negeri Rappokaleleng, SD Inpres Tamanyeleng, and SD Negeri Tanabangka. The results show that teachers have applied a differentiated approach to three main aspects of learning: content, process, and product. In the planning stage, teachers conducted diagnostic assessments to identify students' learning styles and interests as the basis for developing flexible teaching modules. In implementation, teachers present materials in various forms and provide a choice of activities and products according to students' learning preferences. The assessment is carried out in a formative and summative manner with a varied approach and adjusted to the individual needs of the student. A differentiated approach has been proven to increase students' active participation, motivation, and independence in learning. However, its implementation still faces a number of obstacles, such as limited time, facilities, and students' readiness for independent learning. Therefore, this study recommends the importance of systemic support and teacher capacity building so that the implementation of differentiated approaches can take place in a sustainable and equitable manner in primary schools.

The study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research population consisted of all tenth-grade students, while the sample consisted of 27 students selected purposively, along with an economics teacher as a feasibility test respondent. Data sources included the results of validation by subject matter experts and language experts, observation of the learning process, and teacher and student response questionnaires. Data collection techniques included validation sheets, questionnaires, and documentation. The data were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative approaches. Quantitative analysis was performed to calculate the validity and response percentages using the criteria of very good (80–100%), good (60–79%), fair (40–59%), and poor (<40%). Qualitative analysis was used to interpret validator input, observation results, and respondent responses. The results showed that subject matter experts obtained a score of 90.5% and language experts obtained a score of 93.75%, which is considered highly valid. Teacher feasibility tests reached 92.3%, while student responses showed an effectiveness of 97.7%. Implementation of the module showed an increase in students' critical thinking skills through active discussion, the ability to construct arguments, and evaluate economic solutions. Thus, this problem-based module is declared feasible and effective for use as an alternative economic teaching material that encourages active learning and the development of higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an assessment instrument to measure 21st-century skills—critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication (4C)—in the context of social interaction learning for tenth-grade high school students. This research is grounded in the practical challenges faced by teachers, particularly the difficulty of assessing 4C competencies systematically due to the absence of standardized and context-specific assessment instruments in Sociology learning. In many schools, assessment practices still focus on cognitive outcomes, leaving social and interaction-based competencies underassessed. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Lee and Owens model, which includes five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected through teacher needs assessment questionnaires involving eight Sociology teachers, expert validation by three assessment specialists, and field trials with 45 students. Instrument validity was examined using Aiken’s V, while reliability was measured using Fleiss’ Kappa. Practicality was evaluated through questionnaires administered to teachers and students. The results indicate that the developed instrument demonstrates high content validity (Aiken’s V > 0.8), substantial to almost perfect inter-rater reliability, and high practicality, with teacher and student practicality scores of 100% and 80%, respectively. These findings suggest that the instrument is feasible and effective for classroom use. The developed assessment tool provides teachers with a practical means to evaluate students’ 4C skills in social interaction contexts, thereby supporting competency-based assessment practices in Sociology learning.
