Abstract

Reading poetry is an activity of reading literary works that requires expressive skills such as intonation, articulation, facial expression, and body movement to convey its meaning accurately. However, elementary school students often read poetry mechanically, which diminishes artistic expression and emotional engagement. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive study design to analyze the expressive reading abilities of third-grade students at Muhammadiyah 4 Batu Elementary School. Interviews, observations, and teacher documentation were used to collect data. The results show that students experienced improvement in expressive poetry reading. Teachers implemented strategies to enhance students’ ability to read poetry effectively, including structured learning activities that supported students in expressing themselves and provided reading models.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of instructional videos accessed through smartphones to improve students’ grammar mastery in English subjects at SMAS Muhammadiyah Lempangan. The research is motivated by students’ difficulties in understanding grammar concepts when taught through conventional methods, prompting the need for more engaging and flexible media. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and documentation of learning activities. The findings show that instructional videos provide clearer explanations of grammar rules through visual demonstrations, examples, and step-by-step presentations. Students reported that videos helped them better understand tenses, subject-verb agreement, and sentence patterns because they could replay the content as needed. The use of smartphones also increased learning motivation and enabled independent study both in class and at home. Furthermore, videos encouraged class participation, collaborative discussion, and improved digital literacy. Although several obstacles were found—such as internet limitations, distractions from other applications, and students’ device constraints—the overall impact of video-based learning was positive. The study concludes that instructional videos delivered via smartphones are effective, practical, and relevant to supporting grammar mastery in senior high school settings

Abstract

Sociology education not only serves as a medium for delivering material, but also plays a role in shaping students' social attitudes, including solidarity. However, the reality in schools shows that student solidarity is still low, marked by the emergence of exclusive groups, a lack of cooperation, and a tendency toward individualism in learning. This study aims to describe the process of fostering solidarity among students through sociology learning, identify supporting and inhibiting factors, and formulate effective learning strategies so that solidarity values can develop in the learning environment. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that sociology learning is able to foster solidarity among students through group-based learning strategies (cooperative learning), class reflection, attitude assessment, and habituation through real social activities. Supporting factors in this process include the role of teachers as role models, a school culture that supports cooperation, and the application of collaborative learning models. Meanwhile, the obstacles found are individualistic character, low self-confidence, and uneven academic abilities within the group. Overall, sociology learning has been proven to be effective as a means of forming solidarity attitudes when implemented consistently, structurally, and oriented towards meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Tantrums are a form of emotional expression that is often experienced by early childhood and can interfere with social development if not handled properly. This article discusses the “JITU” strategy (Don’t Panic, Calm, and Rub) as an effective approach in dealing with children’s tantrums. Through a descriptive qualitative method, this study was conducted at ABA Kapas Bojonegoro Kindergarten with observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the “JITU” strategy can help parents and teachers respond to tantrums more calmly and empathetically. This approach can create a sense of security for children, build emotional closeness, and support children’s ability to manage emotions and interact socially. Thus, this strategy plays a role in developing positive character. Keywords: tantrums, JITU strategy, social development, early childhood, empathetic approach.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of a deep learning approach in Indonesian Language instruction at grade XI of SMA Muhammadiyah Lamahala Jaya, East Flores Regency. A qualitative methodology with a case study design was employed, utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. Research subjects comprised the Indonesian Language teacher and eleventh-grade students. Findings reveal that the application of deep learning’s three core pillars, namely meaningful learning, mindful learning, and joyful learning, significantly enhanced students’ critical thinking skills and self-confidence. The mean post-test score reached 81.6, considerably higher than the 69.2 recorded by the conventional group. Nevertheless, implementation of this approach continues to face notable challenges, particularly inadequate technological infrastructure and insufficient teacher competence in integrating innovative instructional methods. The study recommends intensive professional development for educators and robust institutional policy support to optimize the application of deep learning in senior high schools, especially in remote areas.

Abstract

Financial literacy is an essential competency for the younger generation to face the dynamics of the digital economy, but currently there is still a wide gap between the level of conceptual knowledge and the actual practice of pocket money management among teenagers. The focus of this research problem is to analyze the in-depth relationship between financial literacy and pocket money management behavior among 10th grade students of SMA Mu'allimin Muhammadiyah West Lombok in the Islamic boarding school education ecosystem. This study uses a quantitative approach with an exploratory correlational design to twenty respondents through a saturated sampling technique. The systematic research stages involved distributing a five-point Likert scale questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability, followed by data analysis using descriptive statistics and Spearman's correlation test. The results showed an average financial literacy score of 23.40 and a pocket money management score of 6.50. Quantitative findings revealed a very strong and significant positive relationship between the two variables with a Spearman correlation coefficient value of 0.974 at a significance level of 0.000. The main conclusion confirms that mastery of financial concepts, positive attitudes, and access to information play a crucial role in shaping students' financial behavior that is much more planned, responsible, and rational. This study suggests the integration of financial education programs based on real economic behavior habits in schools to strengthen students' financial independence in a comprehensive and sustainable manner. ABSTRAK Literasi keuangan merupakan kompetensi esensial bagi generasi muda guna menghadapi dinamika ekonomi digital, namun saat ini masih terdapat kesenjangan lebar antara tingkat pengetahuan konseptual dan praktik nyata pengelolaan uang saku di kalangan remaja. Fokus masalah penelitian ini adalah menganalisis kaitan mendalam antara literasi keuangan dengan perilaku pengelolaan uang saku pada siswa kelas X SMA Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Lombok Barat dalam ekosistem pendidikan pesantren. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional eksploratif terhadap dua puluh responden melalui teknik sampling jenuh. Tahapan penelitian sistematis melibatkan penyebaran kuesioner skala Likert lima poin yang telah teruji validitas serta reliabilitasnya, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan uji korelasi Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai rata-rata literasi keuangan sebesar 23,40 dan skor pengelolaan uang saku sebesar 6,50. Temuan kuantitatif mengungkap adanya hubungan positif yang sangat kuat dan signifikan antara kedua variabel tersebut dengan nilai koefisien korelasi Spearman sebesar 0,974 pada taraf signifikansi 0,000. Simpulan utama menegaskan bahwa penguasaan konsep keuangan, sikap positif, serta akses informasi berperan sangat krusial dalam membentuk perilaku finansial siswa yang jauh lebih terencana, bertanggung jawab, dan rasional. Studi ini menyarankan integrasi program pendidikan keuangan berbasis pembiasaan perilaku ekonomi nyata di sekolah guna memperkuat kemandirian finansial siswa secara komprehensif serta berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Strengthening teacher competence is a strategic effort to improve the quality of learning at the junior high school level. Current educational challenges require teachers not only to master subject content and teaching methods but also to design and implement deep learning approaches integrated with value-based character education. This community service program aimed to enhance the conceptual understanding and pedagogical skills of teachers at SMP Negeri 20 Malang in integrating deep learning with character value reinforcement in the learning process. The program was implemented through workshops, mentoring, limited classroom implementation, and continuous evaluation. A total of 30 teachers from various subject areas participated in the activity. The results indicate a significant improvement in teachers’ understanding of deep learning, reflected in a shift from content-oriented instruction toward meaningful and reflective learning. In addition, teachers demonstrated improved competence in designing learning tools that integrate cognitive and affective dimensions as well as character values, supported by the use of authentic assessment. This program contributes to the development of contextual, sustainable, and character-oriented learning practices that support students’ holistic development.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the contextual approach in teaching historical narrative texts and to examine its influence on elementary students’ critical thinking skills. The research was conducted at SD Muhammadiyah 2 Kupang involving 23 sixth-grade students using a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that connecting historical content with students’ daily experiences increases their learning interest, active participation, and critical thinking abilities. The teacher acts as a facilitator who encourages idea exploration and discussion, and despite limited learning facilities, students are still able to analyze facts and relate them to local social and cultural values. Overall, the use of a contextual learning approach provides more meaningful learning experiences and contributes to the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills at the elementary level.
