Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises play a decisive role in economic development, employment creation, and innovation, yet they remain disproportionately vulnerable to disasters due to limited financial capacity, weak formal governance, and low preparedness levels (Koporcic et al., 2025). The increasing frequency of climate-related hazards, health crises, and supply chain disruptions has transformed disasters into strategic business risks rather than isolated operational events (UNDRR, 2020). Disaster Risk Management has therefore gained prominence not only as an operational safeguard but also as a strategic instrument that enhances organizational resilience and long-term sustainability. This study explores Disaster Risk Management as a strategic tool for strengthening business resilience in Small and Medium Enterprises through an in-depth synthesis of empirical and conceptual literature. Using a qualitative meta-synthesis approach, this research examines how risk identification, preparedness, response, recovery, and adaptive learning collectively shape resilience outcomes in SMEs. The findings demonstrate that SMEs integrating Disaster Risk Management into strategic decision-making exhibit greater adaptive capacity, faster recovery trajectories, and improved business continuity (Sarmiento et al., 2024; Sakijege, 2024). The study contributes to resilience and strategic management literature by repositioning Disaster Risk Management as a dynamic capability that enables SMEs to navigate uncertainty, absorb shocks, and pursue sustainable growth in disaster-prone environments.

Abstract

Humanitarian logistics and emergency supply chain management have become increasingly complex due to the growing frequency and scale of disasters. In this context, civil-military cooperation plays a critical role in ensuring the timely and effective delivery of aid. This study examines how collaboration between civilian and military actors contributes to the efficiency and resilience of humanitarian logistics systems. Using a qualitative research approach that integrates a systematic literature review with contextual analysis, the study develops a conceptual framework linking operational capacity, coordination mechanisms, and governance structures. The findings reveal that military involvement significantly enhances logistical capabilities, particularly in transportation, infrastructure access, and rapid deployment. However, challenges related to coordination, institutional differences, and governance frameworks may limit effectiveness. The study contributes to the literature by providing an integrative perspective on civil-military cooperation in humanitarian logistics and offers policy-relevant insights for improving emergency supply chain management in disaster-prone contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the resilience of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in flood-prone areas in Kampar Regency using the PESTEL approach (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, Legal). This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, utilizing data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation involving MSME actors and relevant stakeholders. Data analysis was conducted thematically and mapped into the PESTEL framework to identify external factors influencing business resilience. The findings reveal that economic and environmental factors are the primary determinants affecting MSME vulnerability, particularly in terms of cash flow disruptions, asset damage, and recurring flood risks. Meanwhile, social and technological factors act as resilience enhancers through community networks and the adoption of digitalization. On the other hand, political and legal factors have not been optimal in supporting MSME resilience due to the lack of integrated policies and low levels of business legality. Based on these findings, this study formulates three main strategies to strengthen MSME resilience: adaptive, protective, and collaborative strategies. Adaptive strategies focus on business flexibility, protective strategies emphasize risk mitigation, and collaborative strategies highlight stakeholder synergy. This study contributes to the development of disaster-based MSME resilience studies and serves as a foundation for formulating disaster-resilient MSME policies at the regional level.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of the oil palm industry has generated substantial biomass waste, particularly from oil palm trunks during replanting activities. Improper management of this waste can cause environmental problems, while its high lignocellulosic content offers potential for conversion into organic fertilizer. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of utilizing oil palm trunk waste as compost through a biodecomposition process. The compost was produced using a mixture of oil palm trunk biomass and organic additives, followed by physicochemical analysis to assess compost quality. The results showed that the compost contained C-organic levels ranging from 46.3% to 52.1%, C/N ratios between 20.2 and 21.9, pH values of 7.58–8.00, and total macronutrient content (N + P₂O₅ + K₂O) of 7.03–8.74%. All parameters met the quality standards for solid organic fertilizers according to SNI No. 7763: 2024. These findings indicate that oil palm trunk compost has good maturity and nutrient content, making it suitable for improving soil fertility and supporting sustainable oil palm replanting. The study highlights the potential of converting oil palm trunk waste into value-added organic fertilizer as part of a sustainable waste management strategy.

Abstract

Financial literacy in Indonesia, particularly among Generation Z, remains low, with many students lacking an understanding of basic concepts such as budgeting, saving, investing, and managing debt. At MAN 2 Kampar, this issue is exacerbated by limited access to relevant financial information and a lack of practical skills in financial management. This condition causes students to struggle in making sound financial decisions, which may negatively impact their future. To address this problem, the proposed solution is to implement a comprehensive financial education program, including budgeting simulations, investment games, and real-life case studies. This program aims to provide hands-on experience for students, strengthen their understanding of financial management, and improve financial literacy so they can better face future financial challenges.
