Abstract

This study examines how local government policy contributes to the effectiveness of zakat revenue collection, focusing on the case of BAZNAS in Serang Regency, Indonesia. Zakat, an Islamic fiscal obligation, serves not only as an act of worship but also as a mechanism for socio-economic redistribution. Despite its potential, zakat collection in many regions remains suboptimal due to fragmented policies and weak institutional synergy. This research addresses a critical gap in global Islamic finance literature by investigating zakat governance at the subnational level, especially in a decentralized administrative context. Using a qualitative method that includes document analysis and semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders, the study explores how formal regulations, government facilitation, and inter-agency coordination shape institutional performance. The findings reveal that local policies—such as mandatory zakat deductions for civil servants, operational support, and integration of zakat into regional development planning—significantly enhance zakat income and institutional legitimacy. However, challenges such as limited bureaucratic capacity, inconsistent implementation, and fragmented institutional roles hinder optimal performance. The study concludes that effective zakat governance requires not only normative alignment with Islamic values but also robust policy design, administrative professionalism, and participatory mechanisms. By bridging institutional theory and Islamic public finance, this study offers a contextualized model of state–faith institutional synergy that may be applied to other Muslim-majority countries or regions with similar governance dynamics.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Madrasahs, as formal Islamic educational institutions, play a strategic role in shaping religiously grounded generations capable of competing in the global era. However, in practice, madrasahs still face serious challenges such as managerial limitations, lack of pedagogical innovation, and disparities in access to educational technology. This study aims to explore educational strategies and innovations in madrasahs that are relevant and adaptive to contemporary needs. The research employed a library research method using a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing books, scientific journal articles, and policy documents published between 2015 and 2024. Data analysis was conducted through content analysis, focusing on three main aspects: managerial strategy, pedagogical innovation, and the integration of digital technology. The findings reveal that the success of madrasah transformation depends on visionary leadership, the strengthening of an innovation-oriented culture, and active community support. Innovative learning approaches that integrate Islamic values with modern pedagogy have been proven to improve both the quality of learning processes and outcomes. The digitalization of madrasah education presents strategic opportunities that must be supported by adequate infrastructure and competent human resources. This study concludes that a paradigm shift is essential—from conventional administrative management toward transformative and innovative educational leadership. The study offers a conceptual reference for future policy development and practical applications in the advancement of madrasah education.

Abstract

Fishermen all over the world have traditions to gather with their families and friends to give thanks for their harvest and the abundance of the sea. This study described the existence, implementation, and religious values of the Nadran tradition in the coastal areas of Pandeglang Regency of Banten, Indonesia. The research used qualitative research with the Anthropology of education as the data analysis tool, especially through cultural transmission theory. This research found that there had been a process of cultural transmission through the Nadran ceremony from one individual or group to another group. Then, in terms of context, the ceremony is still in accordance with past generations. However, in terms of content and method, there have been changes. It found that the philosophical value of the nadran tradition in the Islamic view is that culture is drawn to religion because in the Panimbang and Labuan areas, nadran events, which always used to use wayang golek (puppet shows), have now been replaced with other activities such as prayer together (istigosah), religious lectures, and other Islamic activities. It indicates the existing cultural norms inserted into Islamic religious and cultural values. Even though the buffalo head offerings are still used, this nadran expresses gratitude to God. Apart from being a tourist attraction, this nadran can also instill religious character values in the younger generation.

Abstract

The preservation of Lampung and Baduy cultures within the framework of Islamic education literacy is a crucial effort to safeguard rich cultural heritage in alignment with Islamic values. Both communities possess unique and traditional cultures that reflect a strong worldview and faith rooted in Islam. This study aims to understand how the preservation of Lampung and Baduy cultures can become an integral part of Islamic education and how it can contribute to shaping Islamic character in younger generations. The research employs a descriptive-analytical approach, collecting data through literature review, field observation, and interviews with local community leaders. The findings indicate that preserving the cultures of Lampung and Baduy can be integrated into Islamic education literacy through several key aspects. First, Character Education: Cultural values such as interreligious harmony, honesty, and simplicity can be taught within the context of Islamic education to shape an Islamic character. Second, Environmental Awareness: The Baduy people, for instance, maintain a close relationship with nature. Concepts of sustainability and environmental appreciation can be included in Islamic teachings about human responsibility as stewards (Khalifah) of the Earth. Third, Social Values: Both communities emphasize cooperation, solidarity, and mutual assistance. These can be incorporated into Islamic education to teach social values like zakat and charity (sadaqah). Fourth, Respect for Ancestors: Both groups uphold traditions of honoring their ancestors. In Islamic education, respect for parents and elders aligns with teachings on filial piety and gratitude. Fifth, Local Arts and Culture: Local art forms, such as traditional dances and music, can be integrated into Islamic arts education that values beneficial and morally supportive artistic expressions. Preserving the cultures of Lampung and Baduy within Islamic education literacy is not only about maintaining traditions but also about nurturing a strong Islamic character in the younger generation. By combining these local cultural values with Islamic teachings, education becomes a powerful tool for both cultural preservation and the development of individuals grounded in Islamic principles.
