Abstract

Abstract

The level of physical fitness of school students, especially in sprint activities such as the 100-meter run, is often associated with body status as measured by the Body Mass Index (BMI). This study aims to analyze the relationship between BMI and 100-meter running speed in students of SMP Negeri 20 Makassar. This study used a quantitative correlational method with a test and measurement approach to 30 students aged 12–14 years. Data were collected through height and weight measurements to calculate BMI, as well as a 100-meter run test to measure speed. Data analysis using Pearson correlation showed a very significant negative relationship between BMI and running time (r = 0.918, p < 0.001). These results indicate that students with higher BMI tend to have better running speed. This study contributes to the understanding that BMI reflects good physical performance, and suggests a more functional and personalized evaluation of physical fitness. Further research is recommended to involve body composition and other fitness factors.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of synthetic phonics method in learning how to pronounce or pronounce vocabulary in English and students’ perception of using the synthetic phonics method in learning how to pronounce vocabulary in English. This type of research was quasi – experimental with a quantitative approach. In this research, purposive sampling was carried out, and the author used two classes as research sample, namely VII – 8 as the experimental class and VII – 9 as the control class, totaling 30 students each at SMPN 9 Tarakan. Data were analyzed using T – test. The results of the data analysis described that the research result in the experimental class before the students were given treatment illustrated that the average score was 61.03. After receiving treatment, there was a significant increase in the average score of students 84.36; compared to the control class before treatment, the students’ average score was 64.50, and after being given treatment, there was no significant increase in the average score; 65.43. Another component examined in this research was perception, which was very important in synthetic phonics because it influenced how each learner experienced and achieved their goals. Data demonstrated that students’ perceptions of using the Synthetic Phonics method in learning process at SMPN 09 Tarakan were in the ‘positive’ category with a percentage of 85%. The synthetic phonics method provided significant progress toward students’ mastery of word pronunciation. Abstract

The important variables were reported to have the potential to affect the students’ performance in writing English essay. This present study investigates the predictive potential of cognitive styles and critical thinking skills variables on students’ performance in writing English essay. The quantitative design has been used in this study, wherein a multiple regression analysis was carried out between independent variables and writing skills. The total population was 40, from which a sample of 26 students was drawn based on simple random sampling from English department students of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lakidende Unaaha. Concerning the results of regression analysis, it was stated that cognitive styles and critical thinking skills (p-value are respectively 0.002 and 0.021) had a significant effect on student performance in writing English essay. In other words, increasing critical thinking skill by one unit is on average associated with an increase in writing score of 2.468 points, and for an increase in cognitive style, there is a corresponding increase of 0.766 points. However, from these standardized beta coefficients, it is evident that critical thinking skills alone (0.627), have a stronger influence on writing performance than cognitive styles (0.449). The constant of 35.741 gives the predicted value of writing performance when the independent variables are zero. These findings point out how important it is to foster critical thinking and awareness of cognitive styles if an attempt is made to boost students’ performance in writing.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the collaborative role of opinion leaders, including religious leaders, traditional leaders, academics, government, and popular media, in maintaining diversity while preventing potential religious and culturally based social conflicts in Parepare and Tana Toraja. Through a communication ethnography approach and utilising in-depth interviews, participatory observation as well as thematic and narrative data analysis, this study reveals that local values such as Sipakatau, Sipakainge, Sipakalebbi, Rambu Solo’, Rambu Tuka', and Tongkonan are not only the foundation of harmony, but also produced and distributed through dialogue forums, educational policies, and digital campaigns in a synergistic and non-hierarchical manner. The main outcome of the research is the formulation of the Conflict Prevention through Cultural Synergy Model (CPCSM), which illustrates how religious moderation is built collectively through interactions between opinion leaders. This model underlines the importance of proactive and preventive strategies based on local wisdom and the utilisation of digital media to strengthen social resilience amid diversity. This finding is significant not only as a conceptual contribution to the study of religious communication but also as a practical reference for strengthening public policy and replicating diversity models in other multicultural areas.

Abstract

Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 26 of 2020 concerning the Organization of Public Order and Community Tranquility and Community Protection mandates village heads to form Satlinmas at the village level. The existence of Satlinmas is essential for maintaining security and order in the village. However, in the Sambas District of Sambas Regency, there are still villages that have not formed Satlinmas. In addition, there are Satlinmas units whose membership does not comply with regulations. The focus of this research is on how Satlinmas is formed in the Sambas District, as well as the factors that hinder the implementation of the Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 26 of 2020 concerning the Organization of Public Order and Community Tranquility and Community Protection in the Formation of Satlinmas in the Sambas District. This type of research is qualitative, characterized by field research with an empirical approach that examines phenomena occurring in the field related to the behavior of communities or institutions based on observation and facts, so the results are not speculative. To obtain data, observations, interviews, and documentation were conducted. The conclusion of this study is that the Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 26 of 2020 concerning the Organization of Public Order and Community Peace as well as Community Protection in the Formation of Satlinmas in Sambas District has not been fully implemented. This is evident from several indicators, namely: the formation and structure of Satlinmas, the implementation of duties and functions, and the recruitment process of Satlinmas members. The factors causing the incomplete implementation include: Satlinmas membership, limited funding, the relatively advanced age of Satlinmas members, motivation and interest in becoming Satlinmas members, and the lack of training for Satlinmas members.
