Abstract

The important variables were reported to have the potential to affect the students’ performance in writing English essay. This present study investigates the predictive potential of cognitive styles and critical thinking skills variables on students’ performance in writing English essay. The quantitative design has been used in this study, wherein a multiple regression analysis was carried out between independent variables and writing skills. The total population was 40, from which a sample of 26 students was drawn based on simple random sampling from English department students of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lakidende Unaaha. Concerning the results of regression analysis, it was stated that cognitive styles and critical thinking skills (p-value are respectively 0.002 and 0.021) had a significant effect on student performance in writing English essay. In other words, increasing critical thinking skill by one unit is on average associated with an increase in writing score of 2.468 points, and for an increase in cognitive style, there is a corresponding increase of 0.766 points. However, from these standardized beta coefficients, it is evident that critical thinking skills alone (0.627), have a stronger influence on writing performance than cognitive styles (0.449). The constant of 35.741 gives the predicted value of writing performance when the independent variables are zero. These findings point out how important it is to foster critical thinking and awareness of cognitive styles if an attempt is made to boost students’ performance in writing.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the collaborative role of opinion leaders, including religious leaders, traditional leaders, academics, government, and popular media, in maintaining diversity while preventing potential religious and culturally based social conflicts in Parepare and Tana Toraja. Through a communication ethnography approach and utilising in-depth interviews, participatory observation as well as thematic and narrative data analysis, this study reveals that local values such as Sipakatau, Sipakainge, Sipakalebbi, Rambu Solo’, Rambu Tuka', and Tongkonan are not only the foundation of harmony, but also produced and distributed through dialogue forums, educational policies, and digital campaigns in a synergistic and non-hierarchical manner. The main outcome of the research is the formulation of the Conflict Prevention through Cultural Synergy Model (CPCSM), which illustrates how religious moderation is built collectively through interactions between opinion leaders. This model underlines the importance of proactive and preventive strategies based on local wisdom and the utilisation of digital media to strengthen social resilience amid diversity. This finding is significant not only as a conceptual contribution to the study of religious communication but also as a practical reference for strengthening public policy and replicating diversity models in other multicultural areas.

Abstract

Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 26 of 2020 concerning the Organization of Public Order and Community Tranquility and Community Protection mandates village heads to form Satlinmas at the village level. The existence of Satlinmas is essential for maintaining security and order in the village. However, in the Sambas District of Sambas Regency, there are still villages that have not formed Satlinmas. In addition, there are Satlinmas units whose membership does not comply with regulations. The focus of this research is on how Satlinmas is formed in the Sambas District, as well as the factors that hinder the implementation of the Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 26 of 2020 concerning the Organization of Public Order and Community Tranquility and Community Protection in the Formation of Satlinmas in the Sambas District. This type of research is qualitative, characterized by field research with an empirical approach that examines phenomena occurring in the field related to the behavior of communities or institutions based on observation and facts, so the results are not speculative. To obtain data, observations, interviews, and documentation were conducted. The conclusion of this study is that the Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 26 of 2020 concerning the Organization of Public Order and Community Peace as well as Community Protection in the Formation of Satlinmas in Sambas District has not been fully implemented. This is evident from several indicators, namely: the formation and structure of Satlinmas, the implementation of duties and functions, and the recruitment process of Satlinmas members. The factors causing the incomplete implementation include: Satlinmas membership, limited funding, the relatively advanced age of Satlinmas members, motivation and interest in becoming Satlinmas members, and the lack of training for Satlinmas members.

Abstract

The contribution of the Karimun Regency Transportation Agency in efforts to increase local revenue in the parking service program for 2023 to 2024 was not realized as targeted, due to problems in handling complaints receiving the lowest score in the SKM and there were significant differences in the achievement of targets in each location zone and at each parking time. Furthermore, the parking management supervision system by the Transportation Department has not been optimally implemented across all areas. This mixed-method research is limited and focused on examining the influence of location zones, time, and supervision with complaint handling as an intervening variable on the effectiveness of parking management. It is concluded that supervision and complaint handling have a significant effect on the effectiveness of parking management, while location zones and time are not significant. Furthermore, location zones and supervision have a significant effect on complaint handling, but time does not. Furthermore, complaint handling is able to significantly intervene in the effect of location zones and supervision on the effectiveness of parking management, but it is not able to significantly intervene in the effect of time on the effectiveness of parking management. It is recommended that the Karimun Regency Transportation Agency optimize officer responses to parking-related issues and balance the duration of vehicle parking with the fees that must be paid by the public. It is recommended that the Karimun Regency Transportation Agency optimize the response of officers to parking-related issues and balance the duration of vehicle parking with the fees that must be paid by the community for parking, by prioritizing suggestions and input from the surrounding community regarding parking that is organized and at times when problems and violations related to parking are likely to occur. as well as to optimize the achievement of targets for each parking time slot that has not been optimally achieved, by identifying problems encountered through the parking-related complaint channel and gathering input from parking service users, to be followed up with solutions and alternatives to optimize the effectiveness of parking management.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have a significant contribution to the Indonesian economy, including in Tanjung Pinang City, which has great potential in the culinary sector. However, MSMEs in this region still face challenges such as low entrepreneurial competency, weak market orientation, suboptimal government support, and varying levels of self-efficacy. This study aims to analyze the influence of entrepreneurial competency, market orientation, and government support on the performance of MSMEs in the culinary sector in Tanjung Pinang City, with self-efficacy as an intervening variable. The research approach uses a quantitative method with an explanatory design. The research sample consisted of 291 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique, and data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results show that entrepreneurial competency, market orientation, and government support have a positive and significant effect on MSME performance, both directly and through self-efficacy as a mediating variable. Self-efficacy is proven to strengthen the relationship between internal and external factors on business performance. These findings underscore the importance of enhancing entrepreneurial capacity, consistently implementing market orientation, and optimizing government support in boosting the performance of MSMEs in the culinary sector. This research provides practical implications for local governments and MSMEs in designing integrated business development strategies, as well as theoretical contributions in expanding the study of the relationship between entrepreneurial competency, market orientation, government support, and self-efficacy in the context of MSMEs in Indonesia.
