Abstract

Teachers’ creativity is an important aspect that has an influential effect on students’ competence, however research on this particular topic is hardly found. This study aimed at investigating teachers’ creativity from two perspectives: From how they perceived and what they implemented in the classroom, and then to describe the discrepancy between the two Embedded mixed method was used as the design of this study which means the qualitative data was dominant than quantitative data QUAL (quan). Two EFL teachers of SMKN 1 Negara were chosen as the subject. Self-rated questionnaire, classroom observation sheet, and in-depth interview were used as the instruments. The discrepancy of two data were occurred. The investigation proves that the teachers rarely teach based on the lesson plan, teach inductively, conduct innovative learning by using technology as learning media. The teachers mainly focused on using same media in several meetings, conduct monotonous teaching activity.

Abstract

The 21st century requires teachers to be able to integrate 21st century skills into the teaching learning process. A study on analyzing teachers’ readiness in conducting the teaching learning process based on 21st century skills in Bali has not been conducted yet. Hence, this study aimed at analyzing the Elementary English teachers’ readiness in conducting teaching learning process based on 21st century skills. This study which was done at SDK Marsudirini Negara School in Jembrana Regency used sequential embedded mixed-method as the design. The subject were one of the school principals and the English teacher. The data were obtained through questionnaires, observations, document analysis, and interview then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The respondents perceived themselves as ready in conducting teaching learning process based on 21st century skills. However, the 21st century skills were not entirely inserted into the teaching learning process and the teachers are expected to be aware of the changes in the education field.

Abstract

The development of 21st century affects all sectors including the education field. The importance for preparing students with knowledge and skills affects the learning process in this era. Life skills and balanced assessment are the demands in 21st century era. These demands need to be prepared by the teachers since primary education. Therefore, it is important to analyze primary English teachers’ readiness in inserting 21st century skills in terms of lesson planning, teaching and learning process and assessing students’ learning as the important aspect on learning process. This study used embedded mixed method using qualitative description and supported with descriptive quantitative analysis. The subjects of the research were 11 primary English teachers in Denpasar. A questionnaire was used to measure the readiness of the teachers in inserting the skills in the aspects of learning process. The data obtained were calculated and classified into its level of teachers’ readiness. It was found that the teachers perceived themselves as ready in inserting the 21st century skills. This is indicated by 1) their positive responses toward the knowledge about the 21st century skills, 2) they were confident in perceiving their implementation toward 21st century skills, and 3) they were ready in inserting 21st century skills in terms of lesson planning, teaching and learning process and assessing their students’ learning activities. It is expected that the teachers sustain their readiness in inserting the 21st century skills in teaching English for their students at schools.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengamati bagaimana guru mempersepsikan kretivitas mereka dalam mengajar dan bagaimana mereka menerapkannya di dalam pembelajaran jarak jauh selama pandemi Covid-19. Metode campuran tertanam digunakan dalam proses pengumpulan data. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini menggunakan dua tipe data yang berbeda yaitu, data Kuantitatif dan Kualitatif. Tetapi, penggunaan kedua jenis data tersebut tidak setara, hanya satu jenis data yang dominan, yang dalam penelitian ini data kualitatif lebih dominan daripada data kuantitatif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMA Negeri 1 Bebandem dan dua orang guru Bahasa Inggris dipilih sebakai subjek penelitian dalam penelitian ini. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa 1) Para guru mempersepsikan bahwa mereka berada di kategori cukup kreatif dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran jarak jauh, 2) Para guru dikategorikan tidak kreatif dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran jarak jauh berdasarkan hasil observasi dan wawancara, 3) Ada perbedaan yang ditemukan antara bagaimana guru mempersepsikan kreativitas mereka dan hasil observasi guru dalam menerapkan kreatifitas mereka dalam pembelajaran jarak jauh yang mana para guru mempersepsikan bahwa mereka cukup kreatif, sedangkan hasil observasi dan wawancara menunjukan bahwa mereka berada di kategori tidak kreatif.

Abstract

The focus of this research was to analyze the teacher's perception of self-directed learning, to observe activities assigned by the teacher in implementing self-directed learning, and to identify self-directed learning components from the activities assigned by the teacher. The embedded mixed-method was used as a design in which the more dominant was qualitative data rather than quantitative data. SMA Negeri 4 Singaraja was chosen as the research setting and one English teacher who teaches in the tenth-grade at this school was chosen as the subject in this study. The researcher, self-rated questionnaire, observation table, and identification table were used as instruments in this research. The self-rated questionnaire showed that the teacher-rated himself to have high knowledge of self-directed learning but in fact, the observation shows that the teacher was not able to implement well that knowledge into online learning. The data showed the mismatch between teacher perception and activities of self-directed learning assigned to students in online learning.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced academic institutions in Indonesia to implement online learning. As a result, teachers must prepare online learning strategies that can build students’ independent learning. This study aims to analyze teacher perceptions of independent learning, assigned activities in online learning, and independent learning components in activities. This study uses an embedded mixed-method approach. The methods used to collect data are observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The instruments used to collect data are self-rated questionnaires, observation tables, and classification tables. The technique used in analyzing the data is descriptive qualitative and quantitative statistics. The results of this study indicate that teachers feel they have knowledge about and in implementing Independent Learning. The teacher carries out the learning process in three parts: pre-activity, initial activity, and post-activity. However, there are only three components of Self-Directed Learning that are included in the action. In its activities, self-directed learning is when the teacher provides material, individual assignments, and assistance when needed. However, independent learning is no longer a reflection on post-activity because there is no feedback. Therefore, more effective and exciting learning activities are required.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menjelaskan penggunaan bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar (EMI) di kelas, bagaimana persepsi guru dan siswa tentang penggunaan bahasa tersebut dan konsekuensinya terhadap proses pembelajaran. Data dikumpulkan dari empat sekolah menengah atas unggulan di Bali melalui rekaman penggunaan bahasa di kelas, kuesioner persepsi guru dan siswa terhadap penggunaan bahasa Inggris dan wawancara. Data dianalisis secara kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya komitmen dari guru dan siswa untuk menggunakan bahasa Inggris sebanyak mungkin dalam proses pembelajaran walaupun baik guru maupun siswa memiliki keterbatasan dalam hal penguasaan bahasa asing tersebut. Data persepsi menunjukkan bahwa guru secara umum kurang percaya diri dalam menggunakan bahasa asing tersebut dalam proses pembelajaran. Secara konsisten siswa merasa bahasa Inggris yang digunakan oleh guru dalam mengajar kurang jelas. Sebagai kosekuensinya siswa mengalami kesulitan memahami pelajaran dan pengerjaan tugas-tugas. Penelitian ini memberikan bukti empiris tentang perlunya peninjauan kebijakan tentang pendidikan bilingual dalam konteks pendidikan formal di Indonesia.

Abstract

Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah adanya perbedaan antara persepsi guru dan fakta sebagaimana diamati dalam pengajaran kuragnya kesiapan kreativitas guru dalam mengajar Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengamati bagaimana guru mempersepsikan kreativitas mengajar mereka di kelas dan bagaimana mereka menerapkannya di dalam kelas. Fokus dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi perbedaan antara persepsi guru dan fakta sebagaimana diamati dalam mengajar kreativitas di kelas. Metode campuran tertanam digunakan sebagai desain penelitian di mana satu data akan dominan daripada yang lain. Dalam penelitian ini, data kualitatif lebih dominan daripada data kuantitatif atau QUAL (quan). SMA Negeri 1 Tabanan dipilih sebagai tempat penelitian dan dua guru bahasa Inggris dipilih sebagai subjek penelitian. Dua kuesioner yaitu kuesioner yang dinilai sendiri dan lembar observasi kelas digunakan sebagai instrumen. Hasil dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru merasakan kreativitas mengajar mereka dalam kriteria kreatif. Selain itu hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa kreativitas guru dikategorikan sedikit kreatif. Data-data tersebut menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan antara persepsi guru dan fakta sebagaimana diamati dalam pengajaran yang sebenarnya. Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah bahwa penelitian ini akan digunakan oleh guru untuk mengetahui sejauh mana kreativitas yang dimiliki oleh guru dalam mengajar di kelas, para guru akan mengetahui apakah kegiatan yang mereka lakukan termasuk kreatif atau kurang kreatif.

Abstract

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, learning activities had to be changed from face-to-face activities in class to distance learning. The e-learning platform has been essential to use since the covid-19 outbreak. However, online learning has several obstacles, such as the lack of facilities owned by students. Some parents and students face a problem during distance learning because they do not have a computer or android device. This study aims to analyze the bold learning platform used by EFL teachers during the covid-19 outbreak and analyze the use during distance learning. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Observations and interviews were used as methods in this study. The subject of this research is an EFL teacher. This study indicates that EFL teachers entirely use WhatsApp as an e-learning platform to carry out teaching activities during distance learning using several steps. First, the teacher sends a greeting, reviewing the previous material and information on today's material. Second, the teacher provides additional material in e-modules and learning videos. Third, the teacher gives some assignments to students. Fourth, the teacher collects the collection of assignments. This research can be used as a reflection on how the implementation of classroom language used by the EFL teacher during distance learning.

Abstract

Currently, there are still many who cannot use English. The results of previous studies also stated that the cause of students not being able to speak English was because students thought learning English was complicated. English in everyday life is still rare, so students have difficulty understanding English. This study aimed to analyze the classroom language used by the English teacher and to analyze the purpose of using the classroom language during the learning process. This study uses a case study using descriptive qualitative research. The object of this research is 1 English teacher. Data were collected by observation and interviews. The technique used to analyze the data is descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis. The results of this study indicate that first, the English teacher uses language based on the situations encountered during class. Second, the teacher chooses the class language based on the teacher's goals from the students during the learning process. This study categorizes three purposes of classroom language use: motivating, instructing, and guiding. Each plan has a different frequency in one meeting. The analysis results are supported by the teacher's statements obtained through interviews regarding how the situation requires certain types of language objectives. The use of classroom language has different purposes according to the current situation in the learning range.
